Subject: RE: Ironman Canada : Official ThreadWell Its taper time and looking at my program life is good. This will be my second full IM. Last year I did IMC and what an experience. for all the first timers if you done the work you'll be there at the finish. I'm an older participant at 57 years old but what great venue. Last years water problems will be in the past no doubt but aside form that what a spectacular venue and if you don't enjoy the bike ride your not alive. Rickters pass is very much overblown, Its a big hill but its in tiers so you climb then recoup then climb and recoup. I was all worried about it coming form the prairies and while work it was certainly doable even for us prairie boys. So far as the mass start for the swim, don't fret let the speedsters go and hang back for a minute or so and you'll have lots of room. For most of us it aint about the podium its about a personal accomplishment, about seeing what we are made of. Best treats I put into my personal care bag for the run and ride were a frozen bottle of Gatorade. NOt that the ironman stuff wasn't good just the change was heavenly and my body loved the taste of still partially frozen porange gatorade. Last year was brutal hot and having salt tablets was a must. Hopefully the temps will be more moderate but if there was one thing you might want to make sure you have with you its lots of sodium and electrolytes just in case of the heat. well thats all from this rookie, enjoy, and cherish every moment and if you are somewhere in that 13 - 14 hour mix we'll probably cross paths. |
