Expert 647 Sarnia, Ontario | Subject: RE: Feb. Run Challenge - Crazy Canucks Well, I squeezed in an extra 10 minutes on Sunday. I'll blame it on the headwind. Still felt good though, and that puts me ahead of schedule! Wish our men's hockey team was doing that well! Go Canada Go!!! |

Veteran 146 Hannon, Ontario | Subject: RE: Feb. Run Challenge - Crazy Canucks Just back from Florida!! I ate poorly but I did take advantage of the better weather with a great week's worth of running mileage (one of my best ever). Before FLA, my total was 17.75 miles - in FLA I completed 36.5 miles to bring my total to 52.25 miles. Let's bring it on home!! Hope everyone's well. |

Eh, Global.... damn westcoast.... Paco Training will make you more prone to get sick. Your body is focusing a lot of energy on rebuilding muscle and making you stronger for your next workout and that takes time away from strengthening your immune system. They've done studies on marathoners and found that they were much more likely to get sick then the general population. I think this is why nutrition needs to become a huge focus when you start training hard. Your body can only do so much so everything you put into it should be good wholesome food that can be used and not just take up space (like the hashbrowns I had this morning )... Anyways, have an extra fruit or veggie everyday and keep having fun! And what is with the westcoast! I had ice on my car this morning damnit! I moved out here to get away from this ... also my puppy's house training is being slowed down by the fact that she doesn't like to poo when it's cold! Ahh my life... training and cleaning up poo.

Master 1320 Chilliwack, BC | Subject: RE: Feb. Run Challenge - Crazy Canucks Got out for another 8k this morning. It was only -5 with no wind. Perfect for running. I should have 140 done shortly. Maybe I should have pumped it up to 160. But Alas 140 will have to do. You got to remember with nutrition, Garbage in = Garbage out! Also, make sure you are taking a multivitamin of some sort. Antioxidants and the like. Edited by Crazypop 2006-02-20 1:19 PM |

Don't forget to get enough sleep. Recovery is so important during training and sleep is essential to it! |

I managed another 10 miles - had 13 planned but had to bail - too cold and a little tired. I'm closing in on my 80 mile goal with my current total at 62.25 miles. Expert 620 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: Feb. Run Challenge - Crazy Canucks Hows everyone doing?? Only one week left!! I reached my goal of 139mins about a week ago. So yesterday I decided to increase it to 204 mins. That leaves me with about 50 or so mins left to go. Shouldn't be a problem to get those done.. but I will be away in Collingwood for the next 3 days and may not be able to log them, even though I will continue to run while I'm there. Glad to see most are in the green.. keep up the great work |

I WILL PULL IT OUT OF THE BAG!!!!! YEEEHAWWWWWW!!!!! Getting new running shoes soon!!!!! Paco And yeah what is with this cold weather out here.... damn cold fronts.... GO CANADA GO!!!! I am no nutritional expert but I can give you a few general guidlines: 1) Whole Foods are always better then processed food. 2) Raw Food is better then cooked food (probably with the exception of meat but I'm a vegan so I don't know much about eating raw meat ). So a raw carrott is better then a cooked one. 3) Good fats are liquid at room temp bad fats are solid. Try to eat 0 trans fats, and as little saturated fat as possible. 4) Try to eat about (and this is very general guidlines) ~ 50% of calories from carbs (brown bread instead of white bread though) ~ 25% from fat and ~25% from protien (try to get as much as possible from food, although powders are ok if you aren't getting enough). Also note that protien and fats are usually linked so when you get your protien it is also best to get it from a good fat source. For example fish, nuts, beans are the best IMHO (although I would skip the fish altogether obviously being vegan) and other meats, and cheese are the worst because of the high saturated fat content. One more thing. Nutrition is one of the subjects where people are all over the place. So people will disagree with me and call me an idiot for what I suggested and other will say I'm right on. In the end I suggest you read a bit, maybe search these forums and do what makes sence. K, that was long. Sorry
