well, I think I had a running breakthrough... I dont know if it was the Gu with caffiene... the weather... re introducing the iPod, rest day yesterday, or all the above, but I neg split each mile of my 5 mile run today!    I had to reel myself in and end it at just over 5 miles as 1.  I didnt want to push to long too soon, and 2.  I had another workout right after that to do!

10:50

9:49

8:54

8:50

8:37

I did this at 7am, then I went to my martial arts gym and did "combat cardio" for an hour.  3x3:00 jump rope, with 1 min rest.  then 8 stations of kettle bell, pushups, round kicks, ab work, medicine ball, squats etc with one min rest after each cycle 4x, finished it up with 2 more hours of Krav Maga (striking, kicks and self defense, heavy bag, focus mitts etc).

All in all THIS is what my Sundays need to be like!  Completely gassed but feel great (other than the knee I took to ribs working a burnout/self defense drill at the end)

Weekly totals?  no cycling (only have a MTB right now and its been too wet), 5800yds in the pool, and 13 miles running (mon-sun)

yay ~ hope that you can keep that lovin' feelin going for all runs. I swear by my ipod (completely keeps me at a much better pace) PLUS hate running races that ban them~unless of course it is a rock n roll race

jo25 - 2011-12-04 6:38 PM I would love to join group. I am new to the tri world and new to the site. I am a runner and use to be a swimmer a long time ago. Just ran Savannah marathon and qualified for Boston. My passion is running. I would love any tips you have to share especially in the bike portion. I am 37 and have three boys all 6 and under. I would like to work up to half ironman in October. My schedule so far for 2012 is a sprint in March a sprint in April and an international in June plus a half marathon in March. I am very excited to start doing tri's. everyone tells me I will love them and I won't go back to just marathons.

welcome to the group and to BT ~ there is a wealth of information at your finger tips and some amazing athletes to help you become a veteran or pro on the bike and swim...as it seems you are already there in the run area~

my suggestion would be to take some spin classes and build your core...do you have a bike you are training on? do you have a bike shop you visit? most often they will head up rides for all level riders during week and weekends. Hope this helps some...

although I dont have nearly the miles logged as lumberdad, that just screams of great advice!

I'm definately diggin this VTP thing!  Thanks Nole for throwing this together!  Quite frankly it's one of the big reasons I forced myself to run this morning instead of "hoping" I could squeeze it in this afternoon.

4 miles, SLOOOOOOOOOOOW pace. (11-12 m/m) I kept checking to see if I had lead balls attached to my feet, they felt SO heavy! but Im glad I grinded it out early!  its 32deg here and snow is on its way.  In the past I would have pushed off the run til later then talked myself out of having enough time.

thanks gang!

Great job getting out there.  i try to keep in mind that i never regret getting a workout in, but always regret when I blow one off.  Keeping that in mind helps get me out of bed a lot of mornings (although sometimes it doesn't work )

I second that one amd723. I had one of those days. After working for yet another 12 hours last night and have another 12 hours tonight I just could not pull myself out of bed to get my bike time in. Even though my bike is on the trainer and I really don't have an excuse like weather or the newly fallen snow to keep me off my bike I just had no energy today. So that means tomorrow I will have to double up to make up for being lazy today. Undecided

I am back!  Got lost for a minute when the computer crashed, and my smart phone out smarted me!  The good part the work outs did not stop.  Rough bike workout on Saturday, mostly due to lack of mental toughness.  Monday finished the 1st test in the Jorge bike plan and man that was rough!  Had a Max HR of 177 with an avg of 164.  At least now I have a good starting point for the rest of the program.  Today was an easy 5.8 mile run, need to work on keeping the effort low and the time long.  I want to build my running base back up to 30 mpw over the next few month so I can make a strong push for the HM in April.  Do this I need to get back to running during my lunch,

Continue the great work!

Nice Job!

I did Jorge's bike plan a couple year ago, great plan. I have a computrainer which works great if I could get the cadence working again.

Have you tried a chiropractor? They have helped by neck and hamstring pull.

quick warm up and some drills before a mile swim, then hopped on the treadmill for a 2 mile jog.  I really wish it was warm out so I can start doing some OWS's... going for a bike fit today at 2pm!!  almost time to go shopping!!!

Hey everyone, way to get out there and get some training in!!

I hammered out 6+ miles on the treadmill this morning.  It was my first run since my (not so great) Sunday long run, and I felt much better this morning.  I practicied my negative splits by increasing the treadmill .2 mph each mile.  Then did a big jump up .5 mph on my last mile.  Legs felt fresh and great.

Hope you all are having a great day!

it is truly grounding! I used to race bikes for over 15 years almost every weekend ~ and have played competitive ultimate frisbee on a coed team that travelled ~ so I always felt I have strong leg base....after a few spin classes I was humbled. If at all possible I highly recommend it for cross training and bike training

So how much should an off season be an "Off season".  I am struggling a little bit to stay at low level.  I want to do this so that I get a good recovery month in before setting 2012 goals and go all out!  The issue is that as I start to feel 100% I  want to go at 110%.  Is anyone else trying to take it easy, or does it matter?  If I knew I wouldn't burn out by April I would start full TRI training now!!!

I think at a minimum I going to get back to running 6 days a week!

To my understanding it is not sold out. It is hosted by tri on the run. I think it starts at tri on the run, goes to the park and back.
