I got 3100 for the half last year, so a little over 6000 for the full. There are only a few solid climbs, with most being rolling terrain, but what you go up at 10-12 mph, you get to come down at 30+ mph, so it evens out a bit.

According to my Garmin Edge 500 from last year full I had 2833 meters of climbing for my entire ride. Now I can not tell you how accurate it is though

But I can tell you that it is not that bad, there is one big hill on the highway on the way back and the last 20km of the course has some steeper climb, but overall the course is rolling and really fun to ride. And most of the pavement is brand new, which makes that ride even more nice

Edit: I just double checked because I could not believe that it was that much climbing, from the same Edge 500 when I did the HIM last year I had 1041 meters of climbing which seems more accurate to me. So either my Edge is a piece of crap elevation wise, or the hill grew up during the summer :p

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine did this write up on the bike course recently. It has some great insight in it for those that are interested so I figured I would share:

Happy training!

Tremblant is having a "flash sale" 30% off - caveat is only Sunday - Thursday - but still not a bad deal...you can get a studio in the village for around $100 per night.

For me training is going well. Got in a 100 mile ride and a 15 mile run over the weekend. I am glad the heat has about to break. Amazing how much cooler 80 degrees from 95F. I am looking forward to the "cooler" weather.

Training has hit a wall so far this week for me. The high temperature and humidity 95 - 100 Fahrenheit has taken a huge toll on me.

Mileage is about 5-8 k less per workout, and averaging 140oz of liquid + sports drink per 2 hours.

Looking forward to Thurs and Fri when it drops back down to the 80's for my 100 mile ride and 21 mile run.

Constant rain and thunderstorms are wreaking havoc on my training - before this year I had never ridden my bike in heavy rain - now I can't remember my last dry ride.

Is GU going to be the energy gel on the course? I have been using Clif blox and hammer gels. I tried some PowerBar gels this weekend and could not get passed the low viscosity. It could also have also been the bad orange taste it had. I have had GU before, but I still want to try different ones out in the next few long rides.

I'm not sure on the on-course nutrition. I believe it's different than US Ironmans in terms of what is offered. The athlete guide isn't up for this year yet, but last year the on course nutrition was 'Honey Stinger' products - gels and chews. I imagine the athlete guide for this year will be up soon.

Personally, I'm carrying all my own nutrition - concentrated Infinit in a bottle and Cliff Bar chews. Also don't forget about your special needs bag - that way you don't have to carry all your nutrition or multiple tires/CO2's for the entire bike ride.

Training is going well - I got in 280 miles on the bike this past week, which is my biggest week this year. 18 mile run yesterday wasn't much fun in hot & humid weather yesterday, though.

I did the half a few weeks ago and it was Honey Stinger products. I noticed waffles/gels on the bike. Gels on the run, no waffles. I seem to recall chews but since I didn't take any I'm not 100% if run/bike or both. They had Perform as well...yuk

The gels on the run were the organic Fruit Smoothie and Acai and Pomegranate. I ordered more of the Fruit Smoothie for training as I'm not a gel fan but these seemed fun enough. I had a normal Honey Stinger Strawberry for my long run Sunday and was grossed out Lets see what race day brings.

Hey all, quick question or two. I'm volunteering this year and just starting to plan my trip to MT. I was just wondering about lodging? Should I plan to stay in the village or can I stay out of town and drive into the village? I'm just not sure how things work on IM weekend. Any hotel/lodging recommendations?

Huge thanks in advance!

I think that a lot of the lodging on site is sold out (or crazy $$$$$). There are quite a few cheaper hotels nearby that can easily be driven from on race morning. Just make sure you arrive early - I think there is some parking nearby in lots, but you may either have to walk or take a shuttle to get to the transition area.

I volunteered last year and stayed in town away from the village, saved lots of money. The only downside is traffic on race day was terrible, I drove in around 4am and got a good parking spot and slept in my car for a few more hours. Don't plan on going back to your hotel during the day, you will never make it back to the race site. I stayed at the race all day and had a blast. Bring extra clothes as it rained and got cold when the sun went down. THANKS for volunteering, this year I'm racing! Let me know if you have any more questions on volunteering, Jim

I just spent 10 days training in Lake Placid to get motivated for the last push for race day, did 2 100+ mile rides and a 20 mile run. I suck at swimming so spent a lot of time doing laps of mirror lake. Not fast but I got the distance in, I think 1 hour 19 min was my best for 2.4 miles. Hope traing is going well for everyone and stay safe, Jim

I am also volunteering this year and had a quick question regarding the area. I rented a condo in Cap Tremblant Mountain Resort which is right near the Chemin Du Village in the Tremblant Village area and roughly 4.5K away from the transition area. I am volunteering at the Athlete Food Tent from 2pm-8:30pm. My question for those that have been there before, am I going to be able to drive into the village in the afternoon and park? I would like to run there and back as a nice training day but I am curious as to how the roads are and if they are closed off or not. Will I be able to walk on the roads if they have competitors on them? I think the route I looked up from my condo to the starting area has me on right on the run course so I was just curious about being able to drive or walk over that day to start my shift. I plan on getting into town early on race day and walking around the village before my shift starts but I am curious as to how easy it will be to get over there. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

You can drive on race day, but the traffic will be a crap shoot as the day goes on. Earlier is better, traffic was at a standstill at around 3-4 pm. Their are numerous parking lots, some close you can walk to transition and some satellite lots that have bus service. The in-close parking goes early and the satellite lots are along the bike course, so they can get backed up quickly. So to answer your question, maybe. You can walk on the roads, I walked on the bike and run course last year. Good luck and thanks for volunteering. Jim

Thanks for the info, it helps out a lot! I guess it will be easiest to just treat the commute as a training day and run/walk to and from. I guess if we stay late enough we could probably even grab a cab back to our place.

I stayed to the end, long day but I love watching the final people finish. Traffic at time was no problem. I made it to hotel by 1am and was back by 5am to get into line to sign-up for this year. I was # 2 in line and by 7am there was only around 50 volunteers waiting to sign up. Don't forget you volunteer shirt if you do this or they will kick you out of line. I had a great time at the run aid station #2 and highly recommend volunteering if you get the chance. Great way to give back. Jim

I picked up some Honey Stinger gels at Whole Foods this past week. Used them on my ride and run and was very happy with them. Much better then the power bar gels. I am still going to keep to my nutrition plan, but it is good to know that I like what could be on the course.

My Sunday reading!

Last 6hr ride / 3 hr run weekend of fun is done! Looking forward to the upcoming taper time!

One thing I don't think anyone has mentioned about the course....there's no shade....the bike course is in full sun - a little shade at the start and on the last 10 miles and bits here and there on the run, but for the most part - sun! Cooler climate all around but just something to be aware of if its sunny day. We can only hope!!
