Master 1460 Burlington, Vermont | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread fisherman76 - 2013-01-29 8:20 AM Stage 4 was painful. They were *just* 4 minute intervals, but I could not get up to the top range on the last two, I made it up to about 95%/ Angels looks like a reprieve at this point, but stage 6 is going to knock about half the field out...I just hope I'm not one of them. I'm planning on putting as much time as possible between stage 5 and 6, I might do stage 5 late tonight and then 6 late Thursday to get two full sleeps in. I've gained a lot of respect (and I had a ton before!) for Tour riders from this. The longest tour I've ever done was 4 days, and I think I was extrapolating what the effort would be if I doubled it...I forgot how trashed the legs feel after 4 days... Agreed about the respect for the Tour riders. I got up this morning and had to will myself downstairs. You may have a good idea about pounding out Angels tonight. |

Yeah, I started having issues hitting my numbers on the second to last interval set so I lowered it to 90% for the last one as it looked even harder. |

Extreme Veteran 933 Connecticut | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread Along the same thread, I'm pretty sure this experience is helping tremendously for longer distance triathlons as well - I'm really getting a good grasp of where I go mentally when fatigue sets in, and how it differs from pain, which I can fight through and cope with by employing some mental games. Fatigue is a different animal entirely, and a frightening one...ironic that stage 4 was "A very dark place", that's where I was on the last set, grasping for energy that wasn't there. I think we'll see some simple sugars start coming out for stage 6, and some smarter nutrition for the remainder of the week. |

Veteran 145 | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread Day 4 complete! Definitely a very dark place indeed. Legs are still feeling shaky even after finishing it 30 mins ago! Seriously starting to feel it now. I too am terrified of the tought of Thursdays session, but i guess we will just have to attack it head on and hope for alot of suffering :P |

Expert 839 Anaheim Hills, CA | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread Just finished Day 4. It wasn't so much the sprints as much as the longer sustained efforts that hurt. I could definitely feel my legs are totally fatigued. Also I had no idea I could get a side stitch while on the bike... There's a first time for everything I guess but I stuck to it and finished it out at 100%. |

Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread Day 4 done. Now to "rest" as I have 8hrs and a "nap" before I start day 5. I love ToS combined with continued tri training. I am loving all the T.I.T.S. I will definitely be better prepared for this season as opposed to last. |

Veteran 128 New York, NY | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread just cranked out stage 4 and 5 tonight. did the first three at 80% upon recommendation by my coach. 85% didn't seem too bad. will try the double tomorrow at 85% and try 90 / 95 for the last three.
good luck everyone. |

Master 1460 Burlington, Vermont | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread Well that went better than yesterday, but I still wouldn't call it Angelic. Still at 100%, but I'm thinking about dialing it down to 95% for tomorrow's double. Target Power = 193 AVG Power = 195 NP = 212 |

New user 20 Chesterfield, VA | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread Stage 5 done, that last interval was brutal. I have massive respect for people doing this at 100%, at 95% it basically felt like an all out 8 min effort. Tomorrow looks like it'll be ALOT of fun...time to eat and rest up. |

Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread Did stage 4 last night. I actually felt like I was in an awesome rhythm for the first 3/4 of the ride, somehow I felt good, met my power the whole way, then the last 4 minute set I just couldn't reach for it, I think target was 250 and I was stuck at 230-240 with spurts around 250. I'm not as worried about Angels tonight but the double for stage 6 might break me. I just don't know if I want to sit on the bike for 90 minutes. Also missing my typical Wed night swim for a ride tonight. |

Also missing my typical Wed night swim for a ride tonight. Time for a little tough love. You're not going to hammer your way through the half way mark and then decide, off the bike, that you're not going to finish. You're going to get on your bike and begin that ride. I missed swim 1 last night due to a celebration that needed to happen with my daughter (accepted to one of her top choice art schools). I'm not running at all this week. I might get a make-up swim on Friday. But this is the INAUGURAL TOUR OF SUFFERLANDRIA. Plenty of people are already talking about how they WISHED they started. You're going to regret dropping out. Get on your bike. Edited by BernardDogs 2013-01-30 7:38 AM |

My legs don't remember what it's like to feel fresh at this point, so I might as well further grind them into the ground. |

Payson, AZ | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread I enjoyed Angles. As much as one can enjoy the feeling of lead for legs that is. I am so not looking forward to the rest of this. I have all but given up on running. I honestly expected this to be hard, but um, ignorance was bliss and didn't really fully realize how hard. |

Veteran 1677 Houston, Texas | Subject: RE: Official Tour Of Sufferlandria Thread Given how my legs felt through Stages 3 and 4, Stage 5 went surprisingly well....did it at 97% and up until the last interval, I was thinking maybe I should have sucked it up and gone for 100%. Last interval was pretty brutal, but I made it. On a separate note, the Sufferfest videos don't have nearly the warm-up that I'm used to (been doing Jorge's TrainerRoad plan), so I decided to do an actual warm-up this morning and it seemed to help! |
