Wk2 wo1 in the books.  Felt good with the new CP, the 15' 80% now gives me a decent RPE. Next...

Dang Don, that is a great execution to the plan.  My data is never near that smooth and well controlled.

20' test down. Between my in\-experience and not being able to find the cruise control button, it's the best I could do. Gonna go find that 20' number and update the spreadsheet.

Now it looks like it was slipping on part of the rotation. Or it could be two different issues. Also, that is a really expensive tire to be using on a trainer! I'd find you a cheapie! I have an old Cheng Shin wire bead tire that I'm using this year. I have two that came on a used bike I bought and put something worth riding on the road on. These make perfect trainer tires - cheap and a hard compound.

Brad, definitely was an out of round issue to be rubbing on the frame post that way.  Took it to my LBS on Sunday and they trued it up in about 10 minutes.  I'd previously had my road bike on the trainer, and put a trainer tire on it.  Now that I'm using the Tri bike for the challenge training, it's on the trainer but I'd also planned to do road riding so didn't swap out the tire.  Paid the price with that rubbing so bit the bullet today and did the swap.  Seems like the trainer tire is a more robust beast for sure and a bit more of a challenge to dismount/mount compared to the other tire.  Question:  Is there any effect on power with a tire swap if the new tire is heavier/stiffer/etc.?  The concern is that the just completed testing established the parameters for the rides going forward and if this effects it, should I swap back and just take the hit on the better tire?

WK2WO1.  The testing last week gave me my new FTP which made this workout much more doable.  The effort really felt like it was at the right level - hard, but achievable.

Nice work! I'm hoping the same happens for me now that my tests are done. I was getting the feeling that I was trying to follow a graph that I had no business following. :-(. But it's done, so let's see how it goes!

Quick question... Is anyone else on here using GC? I have a few questions on setup, that I'd like to toss out there, but bought that would be best handled PM so I don't bombard this open channel with that discussion...

I used it in the past, shoot away with questions as others may be able to help too.

I added some info to the CP spreadsheet; Added a column after the CP calc column to provide the difference (%) between the 20' and 5' tests and the next column over will gauge your current strength based on the terms that were used in Marc's (& Shane's) power mentor thread 2 years ago (note terms from Coggan's power profiling). Basically:

  • A ratio greater than 90.9% (<1.1) is considered in Group 1 - aka "Time Trialer" and exhibits good endurance strength
  • A ratio between than 90.9% and 87% (1.1 to 1.15), is considered in Group 2 - aka "All Rounder" with balanced strengths
  • A ratio less than 87 % (>1.15) is considered in Group 3 - aka "Sprinter" and exhibit good short duration efforts and lacking endurance strength

Marc's (& Shane's) workouts offered a set of grouped workouts to improve on your specific weakness based on the test results.  The BT Cycling plan instead progresses through each of the phases to raise your overall CP.  It'll be interesting to see if any of us change groupings as we go.  I suspect anyone that initially tests as a Sprinter, or close to the other category, will move up a category as the program is a bit more back-end loaded with "endurance" workouts with an extra week dedicated to phase 3.

Thanks. I noticed when most of you post your workout graph, there are accommodating stats from the workout. For mine, everything outside of the graph is zeros because those are real time numbers for use while working out. I was wondering where I might find a chart similar to what yall are posting.... Is it not there, or is it something I have to configure?

I know there's an analysis page somewhere in GC that you can setup the metrics to be displayed, it use to look like this on one of the older versions. I haven't used GC in awhile, I think I have it still on my work laptop, I'll could take a look to see how you get to this page again if you would like.

Note the graph was captured right after the ride:

Chad, I just looked in GC and the metrics show up on the summary tab that is on the page that appears when you open the app.  Looks like this:

Gotcha, thanks! I had seen that but wasn't sure if I could get them on the graph itself. Guess it's just different for other programs. I'll be able to take a. Image of both and post. Now, I only I could find that cruise control button and smooth out some of my peddling....... I'm pretty sure I'll be able to improve that as I go through the next 11 weeks!

WK2WO2 done.  This is a great ride that really lets you settle in.  For me, the two different tempo levels had enough separation I was able to use different gears, which provided a welcome cadence variation.

I'm off to a rocky start.  The kiddo's brought a little something home and I've been under the weather all weekend; sore throat, running nose, congestion....you get the idea.

My plan was to do the 20' test yesterday but that didn't happen.  Since I'm still not feeling 100% I went ahead and did the WK2WO1 today instead of the test. I hope to get to it in a day or so and will update the spreadsheet.

Just out of curiosity, what are you guys using for averaging?  I'm using 3 seconds.

Good work Tom.

Most of the time I'm shifting gears as I hate being so static.  I'll work 60 to 95 rpms.

zero averaging here.  I've thought about it though, to make the data a bit less spiky.

Smoothing pros and cons?

My chart show zero averaging, but I do have a data field on the screen showing my 5 second average. I don't feel very consistent/smooth with my peddling and if I watch the actual power, it drives me batty constant trying to smooth it out, just not gonna happen. When I focus on my 5 second average number, it allows me to make smaller adjustments. I'm sure I'll get better with time and shorten the averaging duration. But as I mentioned, I leave the zero average in the chart to make sure I get more realistic results.

No con's that I know of, just helps smooth out the trend.

Was finally able to do the 5 minute test though had to stop immediately after the 5 minutes all out and didn't finish the full 50 minutes of workout. How much does that skew my numbers doing that?

Average 228.

For some reason, I thought the number we use is the average of just that 5 minutes, not the whole workout... If that's correct, then it shouldn't skew your numbers.... Not sure if that's worth anything, I'm the noob! :-) I'm sure one of the others will chime in here with the correct answer!
