I find the cadence is the most useful for me, so you might want to take that into consideration.

You can get cadence sensor for your garmin watch. It's about 50-60 dollars, I believe.

Thanks Paul, glad to get it done. Now I can concentrate on all aspects of the TRI. I have not been up on the thread but I will be going back from the beginning to get caught up and will be active going forward.

I hope everyone has a great New Year.

Dan,

Congrats from here, as well! Way to go! I checked out your blog at blogspot and enjoyed reading about your progress over the past few weeks. The Bones In Motion inserts are really cool.

Nice job, Dan.  That is an incredible accomplishment.  Seeing you finish the 1000 miles is really going to help me as I slip into the inevitable "I really don't feel like running" days of summer.

Well, just knocked out my first work out of '08.  An easy 20 miles on the trainer.  Watching the Sugar Bowl made it fly by.  Everybody off to a good start this year?

I wasn't expecting the bike trainer to be so unpleasant. I have gotten two 30 minute workouts in but boy did they hurt. I have also gotten 2 stationary bike workouts in at the gym. They didn't hurt at all. When I say hurt I am talking about the rear, legs were fine. But I will have to suck it up and deal with it as the bad weather has not even hit NJ yet.

Happy New Years to everyone.

A knowing chuckle for that one.  I just have to remind myself how much faster I'll be because of it.  A blaring ipod and a basketball game help take my mind off discomfort.  it does get better.  Eventually.

Happy new year all

today I just sawm 750 m at the pool
I couldn`t believe it, my longest before today was 350 m. I started out doing 200 then that felt good so I proceeded to 400 and when that still felt good I continued on. I probably could have done more except I had to go back to work (lunch break). I talked to a guy at the pool the last time I was out and he said if I can control my breathing my body will have no problems and will just keep on swimming, I can`t believe how far I swam I`m so pumped now. New year off to a great start.
hope every else is off to a good start
didn`t get much feed back from my thread on page 4 if you guys have time to get back to me about your plans?

Suh-weeet.  Nice job, Nathan.  We're all gonna be fish by the end of the year.

A heads up for the fellas of the group:  or resident terp has graced (hey, a pun) the BT Ladies of 2008 thread.  You'll be glad you took a look.

Hope everyone has gotten excited about the impending tri season.  Eventhough I'm not totally ready for my half mary on Saturday, I can't wait to gut it out and just enjoy all that goes with an event.  And I'm dying for the first time I get to rack my bike and lay out the transition gear.

Is it even legal to run in that kind of weather?

That is indeed very impressive, Chris.

Hi Nathan,

I don't have specific workouts written out but I have very specific cycles mapped out like base, build-up, etc. Within those cycles I usually have a pattern to the workouts. For instance, starting in the next couple of weeks I will move from base running of only easy to moderate paced miles to structured workouts where each week will contain a speed workout, a medium distance workout, a couple of tempo runs, and several recovery runs. After the marathon in April I will tone down the running and move from base biking workouts to structured biking workouts. Somewhere around June I will simulataneously build up all three to hopefully peak at IM Wisconson in September.

Hope that answers your questions.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

Nathan,

You Rock! Its obvious that something clicked into place for you during that swim workout today. I had a similar experience a  few weeks ago, thanks in large part to suggestions from our mentor group mates here. The key for me was becoming comfortable with my stroke -- after working with some of the drills and tips mentioned here, I became a bit more confident that I could swim and breathe too.

Good work in the pool. Keep it up!

Thanks for all the encouragement, guys. I did, in fact, go out a bit too hard in shoes with too many miles on them and won't be running for a couple of days as a result.

Incidently, there was a race that I couldn't make about three weeks ago here in Albany that sounded like even more fun -- run in similar conditions: the 2008 Santa Speedo Sprint to raise money for the Damien Center. 50 individuals wearing their speedos, sprinting down the main drag of Albany in sub-zero temperatures.

Talk about races that should be illegal.

This website is so full of nooks and crannies. I don't think I even know that part (cup of joe) existed. I will now rely on Grace and Sesh to fill me in on all the goings-on on the different parts of the site (only the interesting stuff) outside of this thread and the basic triathlon discussion.

Sesh- GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR RACE THIS WEEKEND!!

Grace-GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOUR NEW SUITORS!!

Nathan-Good job on the swimming and all your workouts, really. I am exited to see how you will do in your races this year.

Have a good weekend everyone!!

Man how do you live without CoJ?? It has replaced facebook as the first thing I check when I wake up in the morning

Hope everyone gets some good workouts in this weekend...it is supposed to warm up here next week so I'm pretty happy after a lovely 22 degree run this morning!

No kidding.  It's highly, highly addictive.

The race today was AWESOME!  I didn't set a PR or anything, and the course was freaking hilly and hard, but it was SO well organized and fun.  It had the potential to be a great event for the city and they hit a home run.

I'm going to go get a six pack.  Then I'm going to see how far I can get into it before falling asleep.  Hope all your weekends are going well.

I'll have to bust on ya, Paul (although I did run the Memphis half mary in December).  The race this weekend was the inaugural Mississippi Blues Half Marathon here in the home city of Jackson.  For the first race ever, they did an amazing job putting it together.  And the best part of the weekend was actually today.  It was warm enough for me to get OUTSIDE and ride the bike.  I don't have a lot of cold weather cycling gear, so I typically take it to the drainer in the winter, but today got in the high sixties (weird, since the high on Tuesday was 34).

I actually cut the outdoor ride in half.  I came up on a guy who had broken his stem, couldn't get his wife on the phone, and was five miles from his car.  I cut out a second fifteen mile loop, went home to get the car, and went and picked him up.  Dude had an Iron Man tat on his calf, too, and it turns out he just moved here from Arizona and was looking for some people to ride with.  So, I think I picked up a training partner for some bike rides over the summer while I'm getting ready for a Half Iron Man.
