Excellent game, i  was dissapointed that Barca let Real creep back into the game with stupid defensive mistakes....

So another damn racism issue came up again this weekend.  At Liverpool.  Some idiot was caught on camera making monkey actions when Evra had the ball.

At a minimum, he should be banned from ever going to another match at Anfield.  But I'm a bit disturbed that he is being arrested.  Frankly, for that matter, I have a problem with the Terry racism trial.  It really disturbs me that you can be arrested for making racist statements in Britain.

Don't get me wrong.  I find the statements abhorrent and this idiot's actions disgusting.  I hope he is shunned publicly by his friends and relatives and learns a hard lesson.  But to do it with legislation?  Doesn't it become a slippery slope?  They arrest you for that now and soon they can arrest you for disagreeing with the direction the government is taking.

I know free speech regulations are different there, but to me, just exposing this idiot and showing him for what he is should be enough.  But to legislate behavior is the wrong way to go about it.

Thoughts?

Well, I 'll caveat this by saying that I am NOT a racist and do not condone that behaviour..

However, if there had been no fuss over the prior Suarez/Evra incident then that fan may not have behaved in such a way. Tolerance or common sense on what is and isnt politically correct has become such a low bar that almost any comment and action is now seen as egregious.

If FIFA or the FA or UEFA want to stamp out racism then start at places like Turkey, Russia and the beloved Spain - who have shown on an international playing field that they are racist.

I don't like Terry so if they prosecute so be it...

And Capello is gone.  Apparently over the John Terry racism row and his captaincy.

Thoughts?

I personally agreed with the FA decision.  He would be a distraction guilty or innocent.

The England job is a no win situation - the public expect them to win the World Cup or Euros every time...but for the manager you have to make a silk purse from a sows ear...the talent isnt there.

There is a book out - Soccernomics...maybe you told me about that? Either way, it shows how England have OVERACHIEVED in tournaments...yet we still think we should be winning.

At least Fabio went out on principle - for that I admire his decision...it should be interesting to see who they get to fill the shoes...Old Arry is odds on favorite.

Low class by Suarez today. I don't care if you like the guy or not, shake his hand.  I may not be in the right here, but if I were Kenny, I would have pulled him off the pitch right at that point.  I would rather have dignity and respect than the win at that point.  Just crap performance all around for them today and Luis was at the center of it all.

Terribly disappointed.  He is making it nigh on impossible for me to cheer for him.

Good player but a complete tosser to be honest.

Dalglish has the chance to show what he is made of..my prediction given his prior actions is that he dismisses it and stands up for Suarez...which would be the wrong thing to do in my opinion

Better news - Donovan is showing some great form for Everton

Dalglish did come out defending him.  Fortunately, both apologized and United has accepted.  I have a feeling that John Henry got ahold of both of them and said "knock it off or you are both gone, I don't care what it costs".  At least that is what I hope he did.

And now there is talk of selling Suarez.

Is Suarez Liverpool's Tevez?

You cannot paint Tevez with that same brush...Suarez has a history of this behaviour...against fellow professionals...lest we forget he "bit" a fellow professional in Holland, has spat on one and rumoured to be a disruptive player in the locker room..

To me - Tevez is homesick..and being manipulated by the conglomerate that owns him....he is not innocent but his actions pale in comparison to Suarez.

Unfortunately - winning and results trump ethics..not just in the EPL but in professional sport in general.

Yeah.  Not the best of comparisons.

I will say I was happy to see the head of the PFA come out against Suarez and his antics.  Also sounds as if the Jersey Sponsor had words with the club.

Supposedly, the Chicago Fire Section 8 guy they interviewed has been giving them quite a bit of info in the MLS off season.  Would be nice to continue to get more recognition.

Barely - thought you would be on here shouting from the rooftops about the USA win in Italy!

Its turning into an interesting EPL season...City choking, Spurs flagging and previous crisis righted by a couple of good results for Arse....still think Manure win it all...

Europe is showing how EPL is fading...

I was pretty happy about that.  You should have seen my FB posts for that and the Carling Cup win.  Happy about both.

Oh and I'm well into the Soccernomics book.  Almost at the end now.  VERY eye opening.  Thanks for the heads up.

Lots still to go in the EPL.  But I agree, quality is really starting to lack.  They may still be the money powerhouse, but a good argument could be made that superior quality footy is being played on the continent much more consistently now.

Following the Liverpool v Everton match on ESPN3.  Gerrard put up 'Pool with an absolute CLASS chip into the net.  Just beautiful.  If you can, look up a replay.

ETA: Make that two!!!! HOLY CRAP that almost lifted the goal out of the ground!

Weird line up from Moyes...not very positive in my opinion - Everton are a shadow of themselves without Donovan! :-)

I just found this thread and thought I would pop in and introduce myself. I'm a Villa fan, although I don't get to watch many games (we don't have cable and the channels here only show one or two games a week anyway, which rarely involve Villa, unless you are willing to pay for a pricey premium channel), but I do track results each week. I'm working on finding a local pub that shows the games, but the only one I know of is 40 minutes away. In the interest of full disclosure, I do not follow MLS, but have been to 2 Toronto FC games - one of which was the friendly against villa, which was so cool to see. I think the Canadian men's team is dismal, and that the women are better than their showing in the last World Cup. I could go on, but will leave it at that for now (before this gets too long). Cheers!
