Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSEDThanks Kevin. I think your are right. I suspect there is a few things going on with my shoulders. Had an ergonomic assessment on my desk set-up last week (due to throbbing and tingling in the upper back/shoulders). I think it's a combination of poor posture at my desk all day and trying to up my distance in the pool (after no swimming for 6 months). Maybe using the pull buoy wasn't a great idea either. Will make an appointment with the physio guy and have things checked out. In the meantime will stick with running a spinning for now. QUOTE]Bopper - 2010-02-07 5:44 PM kew - 2010-02-07 5:44 PM Congrats Mike and good luck Lisa... Well...I am a bit bummed today. I was thinking about doing the Delta Triathlon in April (the employer I work for organizes it). I went to sign up today and it's full. Normally it doesn't fill up until the beginning of April. My fault for waiting so long, but I wanted to wait to see how my shoulder felt. As it turns out, I swam last night and the throbbing woke me up during the night (maybe that's a sign right there). Now... do I wait with the UBC in May (I hear that is filling up fast) and instead of an Olympic maybe try for a Sprint. Or, do I continue with the the massage therapy and maybe go for some physio for my shoulder and train for the Walnut Grove Tri in August? August is a long time away, but maybe I can sort out my shoulder issue (which I have had problems with for about a year) and it will give me more time to build up my mileage (nice and slow). What do you guys think? HELP!... in need your wisdom. Guess what Karen... I think you have swimmers shoulder... sounds exactly like what I had... it's ok during the day, but when you lay down it throbs and aches and keeps you from sleeping. At least from what you've described that's what I think it is. Basically, it's rotator cuff tendonitis. Massage therapy will only do so much... you probably should see a physical therapist and they can fix you up. After starting therapy, it was 6 weeks until I could swim again... and then a slow progression up to where I was before. I'd like to say try for UBC... but the safer bet is to wait for Walnut Grove. I'd also recommend you putting a team together and do the race as a relay... even if you just got a swimmer, and you do the remainder... or do the duathlon... it's good training on what to expect in the other two events. I hate to say all this... but I've been there and it's disheartening to say the least, but it's not insurmountable. Good luck Karen... and I hope I'm wrong. |
