How does 4500ft of climbing sound in August!!!! BigH2OChief - 2010-05-18 9:21 PM Hey you “West Coaster's” … Anyone think about the Las Vegas Triathlon? It's Sunday, September 26, 2010 @ Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Vegas and there’s a little something for all of us. A quick glance shows no deal breakers for that weekend on the calendar, but it's definately too far out for me to plan for quite yet... On the radar though! I gotta say though, Vegas in September, won't it be like 120 degrees at 9am? I did this race last year. We actually had frost on the ground. It is at Incline Village, the base elevation is roughly 6,500 ft. The event has probably one of the most beautiful bike course around. It follows the historic flume trail then connects into the Tahoe Rim Trail! Too bad the company putting on the race is so ill prepared and poorly organized. I might be boycotting both of the Tahoe XTERRAs. WOW!!! I would have never known. That's kinda cool. Hopefully they get their act together. Jay, I know......and........I don't care Wait till you see what I do over next winter! LOL A lot people tell you that expensive upgrades are un-necessary. I understand, however, I've always found that the best components just work better. There's no way to explain it really. One example is: I used to hate grip shifts. I had a cheap set of shimano alevo, or something, grip shifts on another bike. Those things shifter on their own everytime the bike left the ground. When I got the SRAM X.0 grip shifts I completely love them. They never miss-fire and are waaaaaaaay easier to downshift to higher gears when your in a climb than triggers. So if I have the opportunity to buy the best I will. Even if the bike I'm putting it on is a clunker! LOL |

In an effort to raise cycling awareness and honor those that have been injured or killed on the roads, we will ride tonight at 7pm with locations world-wide! I encourage you to join us! http://rideofsilence.com/main.php That's unfortunate. Never good to hear about something like that, even moreso when it hits close to home. Hope the ride goes well tonight. Edited by shmeeg 2010-05-19 12:43 PM |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: brick94513-GoGoGo Mentor Group - Closed For Now! shmeeg - 2010-05-19 8:48 AM Is it the actual pad thats giving you the trouble or the mount? Do you already have a PD base bar or something integrated? I'm currently using this setup. The clamp that holds the pad doesn't seem to hold very well. When I was gitting fit, the guy actually thought he stripped it and replaced the whole set. But, every once in a while, especially if I hit a big bump, the pad tends to move a little. What specifically about the CX3 is it that would make it your choice over a pricier setup? Going with the full carbon wing will alleviate this problem. Also, I like the low hand position that the gentle s-bend allows. Why not pricier? I guess I was being realistic about what I might be purchasing in the future. |

Took us about 1:35 I think. And that's w/ the lights and stopping both ways at the base gate. These guys are fackin FAST. I can't wait to see my Garmin data when I get home tonight. |

Expert 801 Oklahoma City | Subject: RE: brick94513-GoGoGo Mentor Group - Closed For Now! Did my first flip-turn at the pool today! Very excited. Actually did about 15 -20 of them. Then I watched some other people do them. Everyone's varied - I go head first toward the wall, turn a somersault under water, push off with my feet while I'm facing the top of the water, then turn onto my stomach about half way through my glide/resurfacing (don't know all the technical speak). One swimmer rolled-over onto his back as he approached the wall, then did a backwards somersault before pushing-off. He was facing the bottom of the pool after his push-off. Then another swimmer approached the wall as I did, head first toward the wall, turn a somersault underwater, but she immediately rotated her body to the bottom of the pool after pushing-off the wall. I wonder which is preferable? |

Expert 829 | Subject: RE: brick94513-GoGoGo Mentor Group - Closed For Now! QOTD: No idea. Other than a whole bike, that is... I guess my first upgrade would be to a better front brake on my mtb. I've got an old Hayes hydraulic disc and it is weak, and usually drags a little. Very annoying. re: flip turns. I tried that once. It did not go well... Don't think I'll be trying it again anytime soon! I had my last swim class today (semester is over!). Not sure what I'm going to do for swimming now, I've got to figure it out soon though! |

Regular 90 Sun Diego | Subject: RE: brick94513-GoGoGo Mentor Group - Closed For Now! Masters Swim with Alex today... so I'm a dead body now. Log updated. I had no idea that my fleeting thought on the Vegas Tri would stimulate so much conversation and potential interest. How about this... We all think about it for a week or so the re-visit the idea and see who is really down. Looks like we all had other plans myself included (Sandman Tri in Virginia Beach), but after the great time I had with J last weekend I think spending a couple days in Sin City with you all would be an awesome family vacation! Flip turns... I dont do them and I dont push off the pool wall either. All my Tri's are OWS and there are no walls in the Ocean. So I touch the wall with my hand to keep it honest, then turn and basucally do a deep water start at every end of the pool. Yes... It makes me slower than the traditional Pool Swimmers, but they get why I am there and tolerate me. QOTD: Whatever single item we want and there is no price limit... Easy! The most awesome fitted Tri-Bike I could find w/ the best wheels, components, accessories possible. That wold make me a very happy amateur. Edited by BigH2OChief 2010-05-19 10:49 PM |

That's awesome, glad you decided to do it. I'm scrappin the plan to do Carlsbad, I need more time in the drink before I tackle a sprint, I think Dot and I are going to do a DU together in July. Pendleton is on, then I'll still do the LV tri, even if nobody else can make it. I am trying to find out the details, but I might be able to get rooms at a discount for us if there are enough 29p tri team members goin out so I may be able to extend the savings along to whoever here decides to do it. |

I will then live vicariously through your race. Tim can probably point you in the right direction to find something tho. |

Olympic distance race right in your backyard! I'm thinking about it. Whoa...I got way behind on the group forum! Work is crazy right now. Won't be doing that one Tim...I'm riding the Tour de Cure that day - 120k charity ride. I've raised about $600 for diabetes! Actually, we ride from Palo Alto to the coast and back. You might be familiar with some of the roads. Here's a crummy map: http://tour.diabetes.org/site/DocServer/v.109final120k.jpg?docID=31322 |

So really, do whatever feels comfortable. My opinion anyways. |

I wanted to make sure everything went ok with it under my wetsuit. When I put the wetsuit on the zip stuck!!! I had to take it off to to unstick it. I really don't know what's wrong but hope that doesn't happen again. I soaked it in the tub last night and plan on gooping myself up with body glide and trying again tonight. I hope it works!!! I was concerned it may be too big. I've lost 17lbs since I bought it in February. It seems to be ok still, except the arms seem tighter. I guess all that resistance training paid off some. |
