Thanks for all the support. I'm hangin' in there and trying to be optimistic.
I can't help but to play many scenarios through my head to prepare for whichever situtation I might end up facing on race day. ...but then I try to focus on a day at a time.
Peace,
~Sam
Hang in there brother Sam- we got plenty of time taking it one day at a time.TT

Thank you all for your support. You are thoughtful and funny.

Trust me, my intention is NOT to pull the plug. That is my last resort. Right now I have my eye on the prize. I'm just preparing. I have been adjusting my training plan and emotionally preparing myself for a possible, less-than-stellar event should my Achilles hang in there for me to participate.

Having said that, I have not lost sight of a possible 'golden' day if my health is good, but my current health is leaning more to a less-than-golden arrival at the finish.

Yes...there is still time. Again...thank you. You have made me smile.

Peace.

Another interview is now on my blog. This time we hear from our friend from the Great White North, Nathan Teater (aka NashinAK).

This is the last of my interviews from BTers on file. If you would be willing and would like to be a part of the interview posts on my blog, let me know. I have some other interviews I am considering, but I want to open the option up to BTers.

On another note, my first visit back to the pool this morning, in over a week went fairly well. It was evident that I am not in the same groove I was in before I left, but not too far off either. It's time to get used to the early morning watch alarm again.

Peace.

Tri Sam--keep at it, buddy.  I can't imagine what you are going through, but I have learned to expect the unexpected while training and racing Ironman distances.

Your blog and comments on this thread have been inspirational and motivating to us all.  I know you will be there in Louisville.  Your ankle will respond to the treatment, I just know it.

Have a great week.

Thank you. The support is over the top. I'm starting to feel self-conscious now.

...I think I not only need to heal, but I need to improve, and win this bad boy.

Episode 8 of the Road to Ironman Louisville is up on my blog. The link is on the right hand side, once you get there, if you are curious.

Nice day today. Sunny, 60 degrees-ish, little-to-no wind. Looking forward to a nice ride this afternoon/evening.

Peace.

Have you thought about taking it somewhere else to get your fit done? Also consider a Retul session. They don't make huge adjustments just small mm's based on your kinetics.

Sam, I couldn't help but to laugh when you said you felt like you were in a granny position on the Guru.

I really like that IM LOU poster in the background.

I am planning on driving down to IMKY on the Friday before. Do those of you who have done it before think there is any need to get there Thursday night. I could leave after work on Thurs. and be there around 9:00pm or leave Friday morning and be there around 2:00pm.

Being that this is my first IM my plan is to travel on Thursday. That will give me all day Friday to scope out the bike course and Saturday to swim a bit and generally take in the atmosphere.

In my experiences (IMWI & IMFL), the lines at check in are substantially longer on the second day (Friday for LOU).  If possible, I would recommend checking in on Thursday.  Both times I was able to make the first day check in and just walked right on through without any problems (or stress).  In FL last year, my friend checked in on day two, and waited in line for two hours (I think others waited longer).....while I was out getting a practice swim in.

You'll get in either way obviously, and I know its not possible for some to make the trip one day earlier; however, if you can, I would definately recommend it!

Im all about going eairly and chillin...me likie chillin!!
PLUS, word of advise, once you guys have your bike set...LEAVE IT ALONE!!! Dont ride it, look at it, smell it, touch it. Every IM I have done theres always "Bike Drama" Set it up on Thrus or fri then stay away and just check it in.!!

Cube,

Are you talking about your own "bike drama" or that you have witnessed it happening to someone else?

Tri Sam---Is it possible that achilles tendonitis is contageous?  All week long my right achilles has been tight.  Last night, after an 1:15 minute bike ride, it started to hurt.

I'm kinda freaking out right now.  Luckily I had an ART treatment scheduled for today for my IT band.  The Doctor gave me an ultrasound treatment and worked on my tight calf.  I feel better, but he told me to not run or bike this weekend.  Heading to the pull the next three days.

So Sam, any icing advice that you can share?

thanks in advance.

Nathan

So, there's a chance I could come into a small amount of cash, and I want to buy carbon wheels. Not enough coin for Zipps or HEDS, so I am looking into Srams. I am 5'6 145 pounds, if I come into said money, should I ride a S80 front and rear, or an S60 front and S80 rear? I have no idea of the pros and cons of either set up, or why you would ride a smaller wheel in front. I can only buy 2 wheels, and no carbon disc, so I want to do this right the first time. Thanks.
