Veteran 379 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Slacker20 - 2012-10-31 1:13 PM Any suggestions on neoprene cap?
i wore won last year i for me, it is essential -- but again, I come from the very south of texas and have zero cold tolerance. the strap did rub under my chin a bit, but i did not notice that until the next day. if in doubt, get one - wear it for the practice swim, then try it with two swim caps (two are not the same as the neoprene), then decide. i met someone on the plane last year that arrived with only a short sleeve wet suit. I had two long sleeves with me. during practice swim, she realized way too cold for short sleeve for her (florida resident) and ended up using a long sleeve. the practice swim will tell you loads about just how cold that water is |

Veteran 820 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread water has been around 68-70 the last few days. Going off the dailey forcast the water should cool over the next 10 days, how much i don't know I'm not and expert. Could it be possible though that it may still be around 64-64 race day?

Champion 10550 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I've been going over and over what the heck I want to wear for the race which is all of a sudden getting here REALLY quickly. What I've decided so far is to go with sports bra/tri top and tri shorts under the wetsuit and on the bike. Have a jersey, arm warmers and compression socks ready to put on in T1 and then for T2 keep the socks and tri top, but I'm debating whether or not to change into other shorts. It's all clear as mud in my head right now and I'll probably end up bringing everything and deciding on the day depending on how I feel. |

I'm not prepared at all to be racing in 80-90+ temps anymore! Danged Chicago winter. |

Regular 108 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm going cycling jersey on the bike. Keeps the sun off, is very aero, and has pockets for food/gels/etc...
Compression shorts under wetsuit, cycling shorts over my compression shorts on the bike(for some reason it's the only way I don't chaff), tri shorts on the run. |

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Fear not people, the weather will cool off and we will be racing in mostly 70 degree temps, with water temps in the 60's. It has been that way for years, with the warm temps dropping drastically in a couple weeks time. It could stay warm, but that is not the norm for this area and I would bet on history repeating itself, meaning great air temps and cool water temps on race day. |

Expert 1544 Alexandria, MN | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Regarding our bikes, it's the perfect time to get it into your trusted tech for a tune up and once over. Don't want anyone to have problems on the bike course due to a snapped chain, broken shifter or cable, or whatever. Do it now, then you've got a few weeks still to get out for some rides and be sure everything is working right. |

Oh man I got to drop off my bike and bag at TRIBIKE TRANSPORT next weds....man its really starting to sink in that this thing is almost here. Sorry to hear about the ankle, hope it heals up soon! I'm wearing my normal race gear (2-pc suit) along with arm coolers (they are really just thin arm warmers). I can wear them the whole race to keep the sun off. If I get warm, put some water on them and they cool off really well. I've been using them all summer and have been very happy with them. I'll be using them on the run too. |

Wishing you the best over the next two weeks. I'm going to race in a one piece that has a holster pocket on each side so I can carry two gel flasks. I just got to my desk at work and I've already been awake for 6 hours. Hooray for Ironman. |

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread jbahjj - 2012-11-02 10:29 AM How do you know you are ready for an ironman?? I think it depends on who you are and what your goals are. If your primary goal is to finish and know you can swim 4000m and bike 100mi without killing yourself, the marathon can be a walk-fest and you can still finish. If your goal is more aggressive, then I think it all depends on how your body feels after your long training sessions. Case in point.....last year my goal was to finish, so I went pretty easy on the bike (had full confidence in finishing the swim in 1.5hrs), then had a great time on the run (run/walk). I had done a couple of century rides, and have run several marathons, so I felt I was ready. This year I am targeting 11.5-12 hours, and will be more aggressive, but have confidence after 5-6 century rides and plenty of runs and 4-5K swims that my pace is correct and my endurance is solid. Crazy things can happen out on the course, but for all intents and purposes, I feel I am ready now. |

Its a little sore now(maybe I should of stopped at mile 2 when it happened rather than running 5 more miles), so skipping the swim today and giving it the ole RICE treatment tonight.....looking forward to my 2nd ride with my FLO wheels, not even a twisted ankle will keep from it.... but broke out the checklist and slowly starting to set aside my race gear that wil be heading out with my bike on WEDS.... |
