Tracy the only time I wear socks on the bike is if it is cold outside. I've never had any trouble - even the HIM and longer distance rides. Other cyclists are always surprised that I ride sockless all the time but it really does not bother me at all. I've never run over 3 miles without socks though.

Sounds like you will be ultra prepared to me. The only other thing I might do is a race pace swim to bike brick just to remind myself how that feels.

Nice aero position Tracy! Is that a smile you have on, too?! I like it. Although the last junkies group tried to tell me how to post a picture I still can't figure it out. My avatar on BT is of my house because that's the only small jpeg pic I could find. I know how to post pics on Facebook, though, so I'm not TOTALLY inept!

Karl - what a feat for your wife! Amazing. I'm clapping my hands for her achievement. Wowza! And I had to laugh at your Superman question because I literally was thinking the same question after my swim on Thursday. I watched some swim video which talked a lot about drag and so I was testing that out and realized I have serious drag with not keeping my legs up. I think the video mentioned the superman exercise and I can only do it for a VERY short time without my back killing me. Dont' know what to tell you, buddy since I'm in the same predicament. I'm going to be doing as many supermans as I can as I watch Survivor tonight.

Tony - Hope your son did well at his soccer game. I bet he'll like his new furniture. Glad you were able to ride outside.

I think I figured out how to post a pic in the thread!

This is my training friend Tiff and I after our first sprint of the season in April. The pic was taken in my garage after the race because we both forgot our cameras .

Directions for a photo if anyone is interested:

I resized my photo using TinyPic - Free Image Hosting:http://tinypic.com/?t=postupload. I hope this link will take you there. For the resize option I hit the arrow and box appreared with different choices, I chose message board. Then upload now. It took a little while. Then I copy and the box where it says Direct Link for Layouts, opened a new post on BT, clicked the little box with a tree in it and pasted the photo link that I just copied from TinyPic where it says Image URL.

Now I'll never remember how I just did that .

YAY!!!!! And I love the new avatar! By the way, I'll be watching Survivor tonight too .

Well I did not make the race this morning. I decided I wanted to relax last night for our Mother's Day dinner with family so I had a big dinner with homemade cherry pic and ice cream for desert. Then I actually managed to sleep until 6:00 this morning! The race started at 7:30 so I just went and volunteered instead. That is always really fun and very motivating!

Ran my farthest run since my return from injury today. It was an accident, I misjudged the distance but everything went fine. Only 5.3 miles/2 laps around the trail, but it is progress. My only problem was HR. I wore my HR monitor and by the end of my second loop my HR skyrocketed up into the 180's. I totally blew that as I was planning to make this an easy run. My first lap I held steady in the 140's - 150's but the second lap my Garmin found a signal and I could see my pace. I did have to stop a few times to climb over a tree on the trail, and for families taking up the path on their bikes but still very slow .

Dina - Love the picture.  Who's who.  Both of your bikes are SWEET!!!!  I'm partial to Felt, myself!

In other news, I ran a super hilly route for an hour.  Halfway through, I ran on some trail for a mile.

Karl that is a very impressive run by your wife. I don't think I could last 8 hours or 35 miles although I would love to try running an ultra one of these days just not anytime soon.

Dina thanks for the tip on the pic resizing and glad to hear about your run went well today. I have been wanting to update my avatar but have been too lazy to try figure out how to resize it. I will check that link out. It's great to see you, Tracy and Brenda posting the new pics. I also like the Tri bikes you guys have.

It turned out to be a very nice Mother's Day, I was up early and made breakfast and then was off to watch my son's soccer game. The weather was perfect, not too hot and a nice breeze so it was very comfortable for us watching. It wound up being a good close game and his team won 2-1. We picked up dinner and brought it home after the game and I have been trying to catch up with stuff around the house and finally got the chance to relax and catch up. It was good see everybody enjoying their weekends.

I don't have a problem going sockless on the bike.  I've done up to 50 miles without socks.  I do sprints sockless.  Like you, I've never tried to run over 5K without socks.  Decisions, decisions.

On my run today, I tried the socks that I like to ride in.  My shoes ate them!  By the end of the run, they were completely over my heel!  If I can run for an hour with socks half on I should be able to run a 10K without socks!  Right?

Yea the juggling was amazing!!!

Hope everyone is havaing a good Mother's day whether U R a mother or spending time w/ ur mother or thinking of ur mother.

Matt, that was a very good race, be proud.  3 hours is very good!

Wife completed an 8 hr timed run yesterday, she got just over 35 miles in.

My swim...well I'm figuring out what I'm doing wrong, not sure how to correct it so if ya'll have advice, please let me know.  Ya'll knnow the exercise that is called Superman I think, where U lay on the floor on your stomach and raise your arms and legs off the floor, see how tired U get...tht is me swimming, just can't last very long.

Wow your wife is awesome.

Wow - ton of stuff to catch up on over the weekend!!

Kurt - congratulations to your wife - running for 8 hours is incredible! Great job.

Matt - 3:05 is a pretty impressive time! Great job! I spit in my goggles and it seems to do a reasonable job of keeping them from fogging up. That's what they taught us when I was a kid anyway!

Tracy - I've run 4-5 miles without socks and my feet were okay and I only wear socks on the bike if it's cold. The inside of my bike shoes are like sandpaper too, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Dina - Love the Felt! I saw so many nice bikes at the tri this weekend I'm going to have to start pinching pennies to save up. I love the Quintana Roos and the Fujis the best so far, but that Felt is right up there.

------

RR is up for the Tri this weekend - 1:37:04 and 2nd place in M25-29. I'm thrilled about it, although it was a small tri, so it's not a feat I expect to repeat any time soon! It was a TON of fun and I got great support from my wife and parents who looked so proud!

On the other plus side, I think there's some pretty low-hanging fruit I can pick to improve my times. For next year I think I can find a minute or two on the swim, at least five minutes on the bike and probably two or three minutes on the run, through a combination of better pacing and working on some limiters. I know I left at least a minute on the run course while struggling with a stitch. Seeing as it's a small tri, 10 minutes on the bike, plus the other gains would put me within shouting distance of the top 20 OA. I'll push for it!

Hope everyone else had an awesome weekend!

John

Holy cow, you guys are super posting junkies!

So happy to see so many awesome races coming in.  I will do my best to post on each one individually.  If I miss yours, I apologize in advance!

I had family down from VT this past weekend and I've been all but sidelined by allergies for a week now.  I can't breathe worth a damn while running.  I did get my 5 miler in yesterday, but was seriously sucking wind when my heart rate was anything over 140.  I stopped and walked like 4 times on every hill.  When I got home my throat was burning.  Pretty awesome.  I'm all right now, I'm hoping to get a good bike ride and swim in tonight.

On an AWESOME note, the fiance and I will be heading to Costa Rica for 8 days on Saturday.  I'm counting down the minutes.

Jonathan hope you are feeling better and can get back to training tonight. That trip to Costa Rica sounds pretty nice I would be counting down the days too. Have a safe trip and enjoy your time there.

My swim coaching is sooooo paying off!!!!  I just swam 2000 yards in 36:50!!!!!  I can't tell you how HUGE this is for me!!!! Laughing

I just looked it up.  Last month, I did a 2000 yard swim and averaged 1:58/100 yards.  Today I averaged 1:50/100 yards!!!!  OMG!!!!!  That's a big jump!!!

Yes, I kept very good count of my laps. Tongue out

Been away for a few days. Busy, busy, busy!

I've been keeping up on my training. Lots of bike miles, some running, and an attempt at an OWS.

I logged in about 200 miles this last week. The weather has been great! My running is going well. I feel really smooth on my runs and no pains. A few days ago I went to the lake to get an OWS in. Lets just say the water needs to warm up. It was 50 degrees. I tried anyway and lasted about 15 minutes and I had to get out. I needed to bring one of my 8mm-9mm diving suits. LOL

Other than that not much else happening on the training front.

Great racing everyone and keep training hard.

Isn't it amazing what a few lessons will do for you?  So much of how fast we swim has to do with form, it's just crazy.  The rest comes with endurance and strength of course, but you're making great progress.  Keep it up!

Just a quick post to everyone.  I have officially started my wife's porch project following the trip to Ohio last weekend.  I got no training in yesterday and hope to get something in today as well as some work on the project.  Yesterday was the very beginning of the project and I had to wait for the material to arrive when I got home from work and by the time it got here and I moved it into the back yard there was no time for a swim, so I started the siding removal and other layout work.

Anyway, I'll be following all of the posts, and if I can, I will make a few posts back throughout the week but it will be sparse.  I have a lot to do and keep up with this week.  The porch will be a large time commitment and then I have my first race this weekend so I can't drop all of my training for that either.  All my training will end up being abbreviated rides and runs, which was definitely unplanned.  Everything will be fine either way, just not in my original plan.

TRACY..come teach me to swim..lol  GREAT job and I'm Jealous!!!

200 miles that is GREAT.

Costa Rica can I go?????  PLEASE!!!

My swim is getting a little better, still trying to relax.  Son's baseball is winding down for the spring league, now the "All-stars" starts so it will be practice EVERY day starting next week.  For the tourney, he had the lowest E.R.A for any pitcher, if U R not familiar w/ baseball that is good.  He also batter 1.000 for the tourney, never struch out, grounded out or flyed out...  Proud of him

A busy weekend, great job to you racers.

Matt – I know you’d have liked to finish with a better time, but that race looks pretty impressive given all that happened.  Also remember that even doing this one was an afterthought, so it’s a great starting point.  Olympic is a tough distance and the swim is a much higher pct of the race than most sprints and certainly that 70.3 or 140.6.

Dina – I envy both those bikes!  Someday I’ll sport a TT bike, but it’s not in the cards.  I just can’t get the finance committee signed up for it.  I’ll keep working on it though.  With some luck I may get a loaner for bike relay leg and my half this year.

John – That race results looks great!  Super job and it’s telling that you’re already scheming how to shave some time off.  The addiction has struck again!

Tracy – Great job on the swimming.  A few well guided tips make all the difference.

Stan – 200 miles is a serious week.  Kudos.

Karl – Batting 1.000 and lowest ERA???  Sounds like you’ll be carting him around to baseball stuff for a long time!

As for me I finally got my first outdoor ride in on Sunday.  I tackled some serious hills so the speed was low but the effort was high.  It was simply amazing to be on the road for real.  I can’t wait for the morning rides starting the end of this week.  I’m pretty much offline on the weekends as we have no internet at the cottage (I know, how archaic) but I’ll try to get back up to speed and catch up on Mondays.
