This is very cool. I'm just trying to get caught up on where all you can post and leave privage messages etc. My name is Ginny btw. When I click on my name (scubagrrl) it gives me a page cannot be displayed. Am I doing something wrong? |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! WAEF - the cold does affect it a little. But remember I am a big fan of better living thru Pharmeceuticals so after my Advair, singular, Allegra than couple of puffs of my inhaler my lungs are super charged (no I don't take them all at once!). Breathing thru a scarf, Baclava (?) etc does help. How do you want me to send you the docs for the stretches. I can try to post them some place or email them to you. Okay, sorry but GRRRR isn't working for me so potential options:

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! WAEF - Do you have an inhaler? If so definitely use it before going out. 20 minutes before. Sticka- LOL, that is funny. Good luck with that! As for the Blog, no I don't. I tried it once and rapidly ran out of things to say. I tend to get wordy in my training blog/log but that is about it. Shark - thanks for the updated links |

Veteran 298 Central Ohio | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! So maybe you guys can help me with a decision. I mostly run outside, but belong to a small gym here at work that is dirt cheap. But because it's dirt cheap it also is very small and very crowded. So when I need to run inside it's usually a waiting game for a treadmill etc. Also I cannot access the weight room section of it because it's not open during the day because of offices below it. (People had a tendancy to drop weights and it was very loud down below) I also joined a Masters swim team about 2 months ago and did 12 sessions for $75. My 12 sessions are up and I really have enjoyed it so my choices are to buy another 12 (I usually only go 2 days a week) to use up in 6 weeks or pay for 3 months at a time and I could go 4 days a week, although I really can only fit in about 2 days a week. I've been debating on instead of renewing my Masters team to just join the YMCA here. For the same amount of money I would have access not only to their gym, but also weight machines and treadmills, spinners, classes etc. But I really like the swim team having access to a coach to push me etc. Since I'm not planning on doing a Tri for at least 6 months, I'm thinking that the just swimming on my own a couple days a week is probably good for now. I can get my own workouts off USMS web site and then maybe join the Masters team again when it gets closer to time to actually train for the tri? I'm probably only going to do a sprint tri just to get used to it and check it out. What would you do? |

Veteran 406 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Gary, sent you my email in a PM. I used my rescue inhaler this morning. I have two different rescue drugs. I use albueterol but if my asthma is bad it doesn't work. In which case I use Maxair. I'm supposed to use Asthmanex twice a day but I don't if I feel ok and my peak flow readings are good. But with early am running in temps in the 20s, I guess I'll have to stick to the regimen. I hate the way the meds make me feel. Jittery, nervous and can't sleep. Doc changed the script several times, they all seem to affect me the same way. Breathing into a scarf while running makes me feel like I'm going to suffocate. So I prefer fresh air, if at all possible. I was just curious if you react the same way to the cold...

Veteran 406 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Scuba, can you find out if your Masters team will allow you to pay on a per use basis. My team lets me pay per visit and it works out better for me. I only swim with them 2x a week at most. I'm very social and so is my team. Plus I like the variety in the workouts. So I know what you mean about hating to give that up. It's just paying by the month or for the year wouldn't make financial sense for me either. They didn't advertise the pay as you go, I had to ask. Glad I did. Not sure what to suggest about the gym...I don't like crowded gyms but it looks like you have a really good deal on price. |

Veteran 406 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Totally off topic, but the strangest thing just happened. I had a zip drive in my pocket to go make a copy of a file. Ten minutes later I looked for it and it wasn't there. It's like it just disappeared into thin air. I have absolutely no idea where it could be. Looked every logical place and some completely illogical places too. I have no idea when it will show up or where, but in the meantime I've come to terms with the fact it is just gone. Inexplicably gone. It's not the end of the world. 99% of it was backup files. And what wasn't can be re-created. It's just so weird. I got distracted for a moment and it was gone. Fortunately it was only an inanimate object. But it was totally weird. I've tried to re-create those 10 minutes but I was distracted. Almost on autopilot. It's like those 10 minutes disappeared too. And along with it, the file. So strange...such an odd feeling to lose something and not know how or when. These are the costs of multi-tasking. Oh well...life goes on and so does work. |

Veteran 169 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Hey everyone! Swim day for me. Did my best Shamu impressions but nobody threw me a fish.... 1250 Yards - 34:11. I'm following the Ruth Karez, swim a mile in 6 weeks plan (that sounds like an infomercial). Seems to work. I'm halfway through week 3... There may be better plans. Just needed some structure other than 'flail around in the water for 30 minutes'. Got the Total Immersion book over the weekend. Someday, maybe, I'll be able to swim without freaking out the lifeguards. - Greg

The race is called the Joe's Team Triathlon. Started by a guy - Joe - who is a cancer survivor as a fundraiser for a major cancer research/treatment facility in Toronto. The "Blind Guys Tri Team" is the name for the group of 30 participants that I am associated with - all are blind and will be doing the Tri, most will be first-timers. I'm going to be guiding a lady - Myra - who in addition to being blind is 65!! |

If Mav is named after the speed boat, I need to be called either Tug or Titanic! Best I can say is my breathing to one side is getting better and my breaks between lengths (not laps) are getting shorter. Pool is closed next couple of days so back to bike land for the next couple of days. Sticka - very cool about helping out at the Tri. |

Veteran 406 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! I too am back from swim practice. So far so good with cramping. No major issues today. I worked more on third stroke breathing. There were a couple of 100s there when breathing to the left was as easy as breathing to the right. The side kick drill is actually easier on my left side. So there is some progress on that front. The key for me today was to slow down and take my time. Bilateral breathing is new to me and I was trying to swim at the same pace as when I do right side only. It wasn't working. But when I slowed down, it got much much much better. |

Wow you guys have me beat. I haven't been swimming in a week...hopefully tomorrow. This is a bad week for doing much. Although I do plan on hitting the gym again today and hopefully getting in 4 miles on the treadmill. I have been looking at the training plans on this site. I'm not going to start an actual tri training plan until I'm done with the half mary in May, but wanted to have something lined up so I know exactly what's coming next. Most of these plans seem to be based upon time and I've always run based upon distance. I'm a fairly slow runner, I'm afraid if I cut back to the plans times of 40 minutes etc I won't be getting near the distance I need. Are there any training plans out there based more upon distance? |
