I'm very excited because this has been a goal of mine for a while now, but I'm nervous because my longest recorded run so far is about 6.5 miles. At least this will give me a good excuse to KEEP TRAINING over the holidays. I'm still eating copious amounts of candied yams at Thanksgiving though. Avoiding those would be sacrilege. Congrats!!! I need to follow your example and actually pick a race! We are at about the same place...my longest run is about 6 miles. I have started the HH novice plan, but have yet to pick a race RNR half in January, Tempe AZ I forget the name of it but a half in VA beach the end of March RNR half in April, Nashville TN, I think I'm taking the kids to that one so they can do the kids mile run the day before. I workout much more regularly when I have a goal so I picked some things to get me through the winter. I'll still be biking and swimming, just not as much until after the race in January. I need to pick my triathlons for the summer soon. I always do better when I am working for something. I was actually looking at the RNR half in Nashville. My only concerns are convincing my husband and figuring out how I am going to train for the hills as I do not have many hills around me. Is the Nashville race real hilly? I did not know that. |

Elite 4201 washington state | Subject: RE: Show us your Ghoulies - Halloween Run Challenge Page #2 I had a very nice birthday, thank you.. off work, so spent it just relaxing. Then DH got off of work early. We jogged/walked the lake. 3.5 miles, beautiful scenery with the leaves changing. I jogged 2.33 miles without stopping ..longest ever for me. It was pretty slow because I was pacing with Larry who was walking a little slower than usual. I was only supposed to do 2 miles, But it felt fine and we were talking some, and I just kept going without realizing. No stiffness today so all is okay for tomorrows session. Then it was time to clean up, and head out for chinese food. Appetizer plate with chicken, shrimp, pork, egg roll, wonton, and soup. Then sweet & sour chicken and mandarin beef. yummmmm Then on the way home, drove thru Dairy Queen for a blizzard thin mint for me, snickers for him. A very good evening! Thank you ALL for all the birthday wishes. |

Keep us in you thoughts. I hope they can give me some insight as to why he had such a horrible flare (it was seriously 3 weeks long). Either way he's doing better now, and continues to get better with each passing day. Glad he is better, but I hope they can figure something out. |

Check this out! http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=8312222 hmmm.. I wonder if it will catch on. What I find shocking is the little boxes of stats in the story. In 1991 NO states had higher than 20% obesity and now 49 states have a rate higher than 20%. wow |

After a couple looong days at work, I slept in a bit today. Will get a run in after work (which will take waaay more mental discipline than if I'd just gotten out of bed at 5am). Oh well. I am sure that you needed the rest. Will send you "runnnn" vibes to help with the discipline! |

I am not sure if it is "real hilly" but I have a friend who did it and said that she felt it was hilly since all of her training was in the plains of the midwest where there are virtually no elevation changes. Here is the elevation chart...it doesn't look too bad. |

Here is the elevation chart...it doesn't look too bad. That doesn't look any worse than where I run now. Being that I live in south central PA, Appalachian Trail country, I have some hills I can run on if I have to. I just found out earlier that the HM I wanted to run in VA is sold out. I may only be doing 2 this spring before I head into tri season. I'm thinking about doing a full marathon in Sept, I'm not sure how I'd work that with tri training though. Anyone have any advice? I don't plan on doing a lot of tri's, a few sprints and I thought of doing any Oly. |

You are going to have runs in with tri training but long runs are the key to completing a marathon (IMHO). I have multi-trained and the one problem I had was finding time for swimming. I was either riding or running and swimming definitely took a hit. For me that is a bad thing because it is (was until my stupid run problems this week) my weak spot. You can do it - it just takes making a good plan and following it! Thanks Bill. Swimming is my weak spot as well. I am fortunate enough though to have 2 indoors pools to swim in and friends who live at a lake and own a canoe. They already said I can swim there next summer and they'll paddle along. The more I run the more I enjoy it, so I'd really like to try a full marathon. |

I should have done that more at a local ski area this summer but too busy to figure it out. Marathon's are fun. I truly enjoyed my experience and am planning on one next spring again as long as the doc gives me the go ahead. I always say it is the journey leading to the destination that makes it enjoyable. We had 3 people training together (once a week usually but since they worked together they got more runs in together) and it made the day quite fun with all of our families there. I have a friend doing the HM in Tempe with me. She told me the other day that her sister is going to run with us as well. She asked me if that was alright, I told her it was AWESOME! Apparently her sister has been running for a few weeks to see if she'd be able to do it, and has decided she can. I had sent my friend the Hals' plan I'm using and she forwarded that on to her sister. |
