Karen, you might also want to look into some ART for your shoulder. As I understand it swimmers shoulder is caused by an impingement. If you can get it released BEFORE it turns into a tendonitis you may be looking at a relatively quick recovery.
I swear by ART. I have never had an injury that did not respond to it. A couple of years ago I fell HARD skiing at Whistler, partially tore my rotator cuff. I could not even lift my arm let alone swim. ART got me moving again.

As with running and biking you have to be careful to let your body adapt and not rush increased volume with swimming.

The other thing to consider is stroke analysis. Swimmers shoulder is often caused/ aggravated by crossing over.

Just some things to think about....
Good Luck!
I will send healing nursey vibes from Canada OK?

^^^^ agree with all of the above... specially the stroke analysis. If you can fix the stroke so you're not hurting your shoulders, then it makes everything better. Of course this is AFTER you're fixed up. ART, PT, massage... what ever it takes Karen... I hope they fix your work station too. Be forceful about that... because if they don't do anything it will be YOUR body suffering... and they will be paying the cost of medical treatment AND long term disability.

BTW Helen.... Karen IS in Canada... just on the west coast. Sure may seem like a totally different country over there... but it's still Canada. At least last I checked. LOL

Oops..my bad.

Ok. I am back in action at least for two weeks. My trial got delayed because my co-counsel had family emergency. I worked 30 hours from Thursday afternoon until Saturday morning. Not to mention Wed and Thurs I worked from morning until midnight. So I am on reprieve from that schedule until the 22nd and then will be back at it for about 45 days.

First thing I am gonna do is sleep! But I do have my first trail race on Sunday. It is an 8k run. Not sure what to expect. From what I have read, the course is much easier than what I normally trail run. Think i will just start at the very back. Just looking to have a good time. And my parents are coming on Sunday too. I have not seen them in 18 months. i will have to find a tri to do while they are here. They love watching me race!

Everyone have a great week!

Looks like I'm not running the Gasparilla 1/2 marathon in February.  Always a difficult weekend for us as it usually falls around opening weekend of baseball season for my son.  We received the schedule over the weekend and sure enough - opening day including opening ceremonies at 9am, team pictures at 9:30 and a game at 11am.  Oh well - we tend to split our race schedule based on family time so I somewhat expected it.  I'll find another one to do later in the year -

Hi everyone...

I went for physio today.  She took a look at my shoulder.  She didn't mention the word swimmer's shoulder, but I definitely have some muscle imbalances happening there.  Part of the problem is that I have mild scoliosis in my back (have known this for years).  The upper curve causes my scapula to "wing out" a bit.  To make a long story short, I have to build up my lower trapezius so I don't compensate with my neck and shoulder muscles (I hope I am making sense here).  She gave me about six exercises to do and I go back to see her in appox. 10 days. She suggested that I don't swim for that time and see how the shoulder feels.  She still thinks that I might be able to do UBC, but with the pain I experienced the last few days I am not so sure.  I have been dealing with pain and tingling in my shoulder for the past year and I don't want to risk making this any worse than it already is.  She also said that ART and some sort of acupuncture technique to release the muscle is a possibility too.

You're right Helen about crossing over.  When I took the Total Immersion workshop a year ago, he did notice that I have a tendency to do that.

Hope everyone had a great day.

K.

Wow Rebecca, sounds like you need some down time. Good luck with your race. I wouldnt start at the back unless you think you will be very slow. I am NOT a fast runner, but have found when I seed myself in the back of the pack, I have to dodge and weave through crowds that are "wogging".

Mike...good choice on the race...kids are little only once

OUCH Karen!!!! I have not had ART but I now Helen has had much success. I will tell you I am a believer in acupuncture. I quit smoking 4 years ago ( using acupuncture) after 30 years! I also had  it for hamstring pain for which it worked wonders! Good luck hope you feel better soon!

Morning Kevin...I know you are out there!!!

Hey gang! I finally got a 20 minutes time trial/power test in today. I have been trying for about a month, first I did a pre test to make sure I knew what it would feel like for the 20 minutes at a sustainable 70%-80% of my max. Then a week later I went to do the actual test and my garmin ate the file so I had no record. Then I tried using the little yellow computer and the garmin and the signals kept fowling the other devices and I kept losing signals, next my training schedule wasn't set to drop in a hard (though short) ride and eventually my stomach bug last week prevented me from getting it done but I finally got it today....Wheww

Everybody take care and/or get better. THe light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer.
