Hey Twisters!  I'm sick.   Boo hoo.  This sinus thing is really progressing into something worse.  Blah!

Ah, that sucks.  On a similar note, come to find my youngest has hand, foot, mouth.  We think he got it from our gym's childcare.  He feels fine, but need to keep him isolated.

What's that?

Its not fun.  Google "hand foot and mouth disease."

Ok, I don't mean to laugh at your expense but DANG!!! That's enough flats to cover a lifetime! (Like I need to tell YOU this, right?!)

No problems Michelle.  I figured out last year with my mileage and flats that it was still only 1 flat per 500-700 miles so that is not that bad.  And hopefully I don't get any during races   Sort of like falling in the winter and hopefully never hitting the Asphalt!!

I got a flat during my tri in July.  I was bombing down a hill and my front tire blew.  The whole tire was trashed.  I had to DNF.  I was really bummed out because I was doing really good.

Bummer.  Hope you didn't crash. DNF stinks but it happens sometimes.

We haven't had a QOTD in a while...

In regards to your major triathlon purchases (bikes, computers, HRMs, clothing, etc)....

Knowing what you do now...if you had to do it all over again...how would you have approached your purchases regarding triathlons.

I didn't answer this question because I don't really have any tri equipment.  I have a 15 yo mtn bike. I just chucked my old cyclo computer that quit working. I have a cheapo HRM because I didn't want to spend the big bucks just to have it sit there. (I'm looking at the garmin 405 or 310 now-Any suggestions, comments, etc?). I have some old baggy swim trunks that I'm using and want to get some tri shorts.

So does anyone have suggestions for someone who is really just a beginner (even though my status says otherwise) about equip to buy, what to buy first, etc?

Buy a good road bike first.  It can be used for more than just triathlons.  Make sure that you do your research and buy a bike that truly fits.  Don't buy something just because of the name.  That's where most people go wrong.  Go to several reputable bike shops and ride everything from the cheap bikes to the super expensive bikes so you can get a feel for how they all respond.  Keep a journal of all the bikes and sizes and components that you try so you can remember all of them.  It is a big purchase.  If you choose correctly, you will have the bike forever if you take good care of it.

Surprisingly, I didn't crash.  It could have been bad, though.

pdbman - 2010-03-18 9:43 AM Also had to cancel our anniversary plans since my son is still sick. Frown Don't dare leave him alone right now, especially since we still don't really know what it is.

Happy anniversary!   Take care of that boy.

Yep.  No school either.  Just hope we keep it contained to him and not have it run through the house.

HOO-RAH!!!
Is it too boystrous of me to brag that I just moved TWO TONS of dumbbells?
I'm pretty excited that I did it with no assistance (except my cheesy little cart).  Somewhat of an accomplishment

Okay, now let's see if I can get this budget to balance (I was off my $2grand when i left work last night   )

Yardwork done for the day!  Wow, what great weather.  Was actually able to work in the yard with my shirt off!  Beautiful!

Now, I'm off for a swim and maybe a run.

Happychick - 2010-03-17 8:23 PM one last thing...has anyone done P90X? I've been debating about getting it since all I can do is sit on my arse until this shoulder thing decides to stop friggen killing me! Anyway, I figured since I'm concentrating strictly on running this year(K, I'm not reeeeally sitting on my arse, it just feels like it since I still can't swim or ride!) I would focus on strength training as well and thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience with this program.

Hey Michelle -
We did P90X for a few weeks - I have yet to get through the whole 90 days. We seemed to like it but it is an hour a day if you do it and then they do ab ripper x for 15 min 3 times a week on top of that. I found that especially in busy periods for work it was a struggle for me to get motivated to do the hour. I think it really works and have heard great things about the successes people have had with it.  One thing though - it might be tough to do it all with your shoulder hurt but I guess you could not do weights with it. The lean program we did had a shoulders day that was nothing but pushups and pullups - but I think the programs are different based on the version you do.

Hey Twisters!

More nice weather today.  I biked to work this morning, snuck in a swim afterward, and then went for a "real" ride after that.  I enjoyed it while I could since its supposed to snow tomorrow.
