If I have time later, I'll try to find an article I've read about how swimming, especially in cold water, actually stimulates your appetite. Throughout my training last year, I never really had a huge appetite after swimming, but that may be because if it was in the pool, I always went in the steam room and took a hot shower after. And if I did an OWS, I always did a 2-mile run after to practice my transitions. Both those things would have increased my body temperature. (I don't like being cold which is why even though I like swimming, I don't actually do it too often, and I follow it with body-warming activities, haha). Interesting theory, however I just got done with a 5 mi run and then INHALED a 12" Italian hoagie. YUM YUM!!!!! But the REAL question is. . . Would you have eaten TWO hoagies if it had been a similar swim workout?? ![]() |

Gone for a week and just under 19 pages to catch up on. You guys have been busy. Hope its been a good week and that everyone is doing well. Hey, Paul's back! How was the trip? Overall it was a good trip. One of the chaperons got a phone call and ended up flying home for an emergency. Good thing we had an extra chaperon. Weather was nice until someone sent some rain down from SF but it didn't last long. The kids are a great bunch. No real troubles from any of them. There were three groups that competed, Jazz, orchestra and wind ensemble. They got a bronze and two silver awards. One student got two of the eleven individual awards that were given out. My wallet disappeared, along with a back up credit card, cash, Disneyland pass and who knows what else. I'm working on getting the stuff replaced now. I'm glad I keep my drivers license and main credit card in my cell phone case or I would have really been in trouble. It was a good trip and I'm glad I went. Sounds like a great trip minus the disappearance of the wallet, etc. That part is a real bummer. Welcome back, Paul! |

It is Friday so it might be longer - LOL We used to have some guys that would take extended lunches on Fridays. They would leave around noon and not come back until about 3:30 feeling quite "jovial." I don't know which was worse, dealing with them in the office for another hour to sober up before hitting the road or having them out of my way but knowing they were out on the road. I thought those days of the 3-martini lunches were over, but I guess not. If they were extra "jovial" at lunch, you could probably slip out and go home and they wouldn't even notice. Mmmm, 3-martini lunches! Wow, time flies. . . I haven't had any alcohol since my self-imposed booze ban 3 1/2 weeks ago! I can't wait to celebrate the end of my ban when I have my post-marathon drink (hopefully mint julep, but probably beer) after my race next week! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got an AWESOME 5 mile run in at lunchtime. It was so beautiful out... 70 degrees and sunny. I ran down by the Brandywine River that runs through Wilmington. Lots of people out walking their dogs, picnics, etc. Just the perfect day to be out. I will take 364 days (weather wise) just like today, please! |

I managed to tumble out of bed this morning and get in a 40 min trainer ride. The weather here is absolutely gorgeous (it will be 75 and sunny today), so I'm going for a run outside at lunchtime. I got my taxes done with less than 24 hours to spare... WOOT! Have a great day, team! Bill My taxes were waiting for me to sign when I got back from my trip. Now all I have to do is write out the check. Not too happy with last year's tax table adjustments. The frustrating part is that as much as I paid, it will all go to my siblings in EIC. At least my BIL finally has a job. He's worked less than 3 of the last 12 years. I hope he sticks with this job. |

I feel like I could explode and would be quite good with that at 8:30 this morning!!!!!! Thank God I do not drink because I would be sick as a dog tomorrow - LOL Any other words of wisdom besides finding someone and beating the crap out of them for medicinal purposes - should have used the heavy bag this morning - LOL Sorry its a rough day Bill. I can't do much about the stress but know we are thinking and praying for you and your family. |

I literally almost threw up a tuna sandwich in the first 10 minutes. I can't eat within 2.5 hours of a really intense workout...especially seafood.I was just thinking 'bout ya, Mel! How is Dad doing (as well as you and the rest of the fam?) My dad is continuing to decline. I will be going over tomorrow. My mom has said that he isn't trying to communicate anymore. She is looking into a home for him...but if he is shutting down we may be able to care for him at home. It has been his stubbornness that is the most difficult to deal with. Sorry things aren't going well with your dad. Its tough to see someone you love in a long slow decline. Our prayers are with you. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finally caught up, at least on my posting. I need to get my back taken care of so I can get caught up on my training. I did get a great run in last weekend. Surprisingly easy. Maybe that's what the lower elevation does for you. I hope it doesn't mess up my running now that I'm back to higher elevation. That's not as big of a concern as my back is though. Can't run if I can't stand. And I have a half mary on Saturday. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi everyone, Wow are there ever a lot of posts! Not sure if I'll ever get caught up. A bit of unfortunate news: I had a run-in with my ski pole this past Sunday while backcountry skiing. Sadly the ski pole won and I had to go into an ENT doc this morning to get my broken nose straightened. The verdict: no exercise for a week, and only moderate exercise for the following several weeks while the bones set. So....looks like my April Challenge goals are right out of the window! Didn't I see something about getting removed from the challenge due to injury? Seeing as how I'm only part way through my goals it would probably be best... At least it was just my nose, and not my eye! At least it isn't right in the middle of race season! These are the things I keep telling myself... Hope the rest of you are staying healthy! |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here comes the vent that I swore off this morning; though it is in disguise for now: If you got an ad in your race bag that said another race was open for registration on a certain day, and you went to the website but there was no link, would you scrap the idea because you felt they were too disorganized to put on a good race, or be persistent and check back? Real vent: People who have no passion for triathlon, and have never been to a triathlon, should not be allowed to attempt to host one. AND they certainly shouldn't be given authority over those who have experience and passion. I want to scream! Edited by Shoeless 2010-04-15 5:05 PM |

We had 6" of snow when we woke up, and it snowed until mid-afternoon. Much of it melted, and the snowman only stood until 6 p.m. Then he keeled over. oh wow! I will say I am happy our snow is gone..(for good I hope but this is WI and anything can happen!) I probably wouldn't mind it as much if it was warmer...and went away as fast as it comes! Just showed my girls and they want to know how you made it so big? |

I'm trying to get more in the habit of working out in the morning so that in the summer when I'm training for my HIM, 2-a-days are more manageable. So in that vein, I got up this morning and did a trainer ride. It was only supposed to be 30-45 min, but I popped in the pilot for Firefly, and before I knew it, I was an hour into the show and running late for work. Ooops. Up for tonight is a quick lifting session with my lifting buddy, then probably a lot of foam rolling and stretching. oops on being late for work! But great job getting the workouts in! |
