Okay, I keep clicking on the "register now" button for the memorial day weekend sprint triathlon (Island Lake tri), but then I keep backing out!!  I feel like it's my very first triathlon all over again!!!  I am almost certain I would like to do it.  So I think I will register this evening, after I've completed some workouts for the day to give me a mental boost. Laughing

My swim coaching is sooooo paying off!!!!  I just swam 2000 yards in 36:50!!!!!  I can't tell you how HUGE this is for me!!!! Laughing

I just looked it up.  Last month, I did a 2000 yard swim and averaged 1:58/100 yards.  Today I averaged 1:50/100 yards!!!!  OMG!!!!!  That's a big jump!!!

Yes, I kept very good count of my laps. Tongue out

Oh I most certainly know how that feels!!

You mean my bribe of a gatorade wasn't motivation enough for you?  My fiance will be there cheering me on, so you two can watch me stagger over the finish line together while you share experiences caring for inner city children.  She's an art teacher in inner-city Youngstown (or as we call it, mini-Detroit).

Speaking of inner-city youth.... (shameless plug)... if you have a facebook, save the date August 15!!!  I mentioned earlier that I'm working on starting a nonprofit... well, we were recently named as finalists of Toyota's nonprofit competition, called 100 Cars for Good.  Over 4,000 nonprofits applied (500 selected as finalists), so this was (is) exciting news for us. On August 15, we will be going up against 4 other nonprofits for a chance to win a Toyota, and we need your vote!

Okay, so some links.

Where to vote on August 15: http://100carsforgood.com  Search "Atlantic Impact" - that's us - to check out our video. (You need to expand the little section.)  There's also a link to our facebook page there.

And if you are so inclined, you can also "pledge" to vote.  http://www.causes.com/causes/666012-atlantic-impact/actions/1647043

Really bummed today. I woke up feeling terrible. I caught a cold. Going to take a couple days off from training and I should be back in the saddle.

I set some goals for the month in training. I plan to put in 650 miles biking and at least 80 miles running (will probably be a little more running). I know the bike miles are pretty high, but I decided to keep pumping away since I love it so much and the guys I ride with are great and keep me motivated. I'm looking at a couple more century rides in July. The guys are trying to talk me into a double century, but I'm not sure yet.

Dirk,  good luck on the project.  Just think of the time away from training as a perfect taper.  I'm sure it won't have much of an effect on your racing at all.  I love those kinds of home projects.

Don't make me come up there and push your button for you!

You're more than ready for a race.  Just jump into it and get over the nervousness.  I am nervous before every race regardless of distance or number of athletes projected to be in the race.  Once on the course it's all about the time you have already spent training, and it's you against yourself.

YIKES!  I am officially signed up for the Island Lake Triathlon on Saturday, May 26!  I actually originally thought this was on Sunday... whoops, so much for my day of rest on Saturday...  It was weird, I didn't get charged extra for registering "after 5/11" so that basically makes up for active's fees. That was nice.

David, SEE YOU THERE!  We'll have to figure out a place to meet.  Have you thought about when you'll be getting there? I generally like to get to races really early for plenty of relaxation time, so I'll probably try to get there around the time registration opens up that day.

uh.. so I think I was a victim of food poisoning?!  This is really random and so I'm not sure what else it could be... I woke up around 1:30a feeling nauseous, then vomited up a storm (sorry for the visual), and now I think I'm fine... Our team at work was treated to dinner last night by our boss, and I hate to inappropriately jump to conclusions and blame the restaurant's food, but... I don't know what else to make of it!  I'm trying to think about the foods I ate yesterday, but everything is stuff I usually eat, other than the restaurant food... uh perhaps I picked up a bad apple or orange yesterday?!  Or the melted ice cream I ate...?  I was feeling blah during my afternoon run yesterday... would symptoms show up so late if it's related?! (It was hot and I don't think I had drank enough beforehand, but I definitely drank enough in the hours following.)  This is just very strange to me because the last time I was sick like this was... well, I don't remember! Undecided

I also realized that yesterday I was making an effort to cut out caffeine, so instead of the 4-8 tea bags I usually have a day, I only had one... quick google search shows in extreme cases vomiting has been reported from caffeine withdrawal, but I really don't think that's what happened here, as is this really that drastic..?? Really scratching my head... Undecided

There is one thing for sure, it sounds like a bad night.  It could be food poisoning but the only real way to determine that is culture the food or, well, let's not get into that.

Hmm?  I have never heard of anyone getting sick to the point of throwing up from a caffeine withdrawal but I have had the headaches that come reducing caffeine too quickly.  The experience I have had with withdrawal was a HUGE headache that caused me to become pretty nauseous, but not enough so I was going to kneel before the porcelain god.

I might start with allowing a little more caffeine and a slower reduction.  Are you trying to remove it completely from your diet or simply reduce it?

______________

On a totally personal note:  Today is my first full day working on the porch.  I have taken the day off work and plan to get a run in as soon as Lis heads to work and then dive into the project.  I already have a good start on it for only having a few hours each night so far.  The back of the house has the siding removed and the ledger is ready to go up soon this morning and then make sure I get the posts and the rest of the framing square.  My goal for today is to get the ledger up, post in the ground and begin to lay in the rafters.  Being this project is being done almost totally by myself, it going to take some extra time.

I'm so sorry you got sick, Samantha. A couple weeks ago I had the same thing happen to me. In fact, I'd written in my log that I caught a quick flu because my family had eaten the same foods I had and I couldn't come up with any other explanation. Then, a week later, it happened again and again my family had eaten the same foods with no reaction. But, it WAS food poisoning. I'd eaten morel mushrooms both times and although I had eaten them last year with no problem, my body had developed an allergy to them. It may be that your body rejected whatever you ate since throwing up made you feel better quickly. Just a thought. I can't speak to your caffeine withdrawal since I'm not a coffee or tea drinker. Hope you can figure it out. Good job on trying to lower your cafeine intake, though!

This is another super busy week for me.  My husband is out of town all week.  Thankfully, the munchkin is being a very good boy!  So far, so good with getting all my planned workouts done, too!  Today, I'll be doing a swim workout that my coach gave me.  It looks like a daunting speed workout.  I cut a little bit out of it to fit with the number of yards I need to do today.  I'll let you know how I fare.  Cheers!

Stan hope you are feeling better as well.

Dirk sounds like you will have your hands full today with the porch. I hope you get what you are planning to do today completed.

Tracy good luck with you swim workout today.

Since you feel better now, I wouldn't worry about it.  If it happens again, it's time to investigate the cause.  I cut out caffeine cold turkey when I got pregnant.  (I'm a heavy coffee drinker.  Life cannot begin without coffee!)  I had a super wicked headache that made my head spin.  I was able to deal with it and by the end of a week, I was feeling much better.  That was a bad week, though.  Good luck with eliminating caffeine.

Yeah, I really don't think the caffeine reduction was the issue, but I thought I'd try to think about all the "differences" about yesterday.  I actually do think it was the food from the restaurant, as the timing seems to fit too.

As for the caffeine, I just felt it probably wasn't good to be taking in so much, so I was just trying to reduce.  I like tea too much to cut out completely... besides, I need my anti-oxidants. Laughing

Samantha, glad you are feeling better. Sounds like a rough night. I've been dealing with stomach distress for over a week now. Nothing like you describe, just bad stomach pains that come and go. My MIL says she had something similar a while back and it took 2 weeks to clear her system.

School is out here and my boy is home . His sister and I are both happy campers today. We are busy packing all day but I hope to get a ride in later.

Tomorrow we leave for our first short vacation of the summer. We are driving to my parents house near St. Louis then Friday we are all off to Oklahoma! Can't wait to see my family, some different scenery and celebrate my neices graduation from high school. Say a pray for the kids and I traveling with my parents. My Dad won't hear of us taking my van which is already broken in. Their van has leather seats and has probably never seen a crumb. My Mom already suggested that the kids might not be able to eat in the van. Lord help us, an 8 hour drive and the kids can't snack! For some reason I think they may change their minds LOL.

Dirk I'd love to see some pictures of all your hard work!

Samantha - that does sound a lot like food poisoning. I've gone a few days without coffee or caffeine and never had an issue like that. Sometimes a headache but that's it and I'm a pretty heavy caffeine drinker!

Dirk - you know what we're going to say - pictures, or it didn't happen!

Dina - Good luck on that road trip - I'm sure you guys will have a ton of fun and I hope the kids aren't too much of a handful!

Haha, Dina...your kids grandparents sound a lot like my kids grandparents so I know your stress in using their van. That's very thoughtful of them to want to keep you safe and it sure sounds like it'll be a comfortable mode of transportation. I'll cover you in prayer for a safe and FUN vacation! Take a bunch of paper towels, wet wipes and maybe a battery operated hand held vacuum and you'll be good to go! Wow, your schools let out soon. My kids won't be off until May 31st so I'm jealous of your time together.

Dina I hope you and your family have a safe trip and that you enjoy your time spent with family on your vacation. Good luck with keeping your parents van clean with kids on a long ride like that. I think you have better odds of winning the lottery then having that happen.

I got my speed session done in the pool.  I thought I was going to die!  My tongue was hanging out like a panting dog at the end of each 50!  Thank goodness I shortened the workout!  It was a great one, though!  Now I feel like I could eat a horse.  Must find some food ASAP!!!

Why does swimming make you so hungry?

So I had some punk throw a bottle and hit me in the back on my bike today.  I could only get a partial of the plate, but it scared the $hit out of me...that's for sure.  I hope everyone else's workouts go well tonight!

Swimming doesn't make me hungry.  I think I swallow too much water.
