barqhead - 2007-11-15 11:46 AM Back again. Glad to see all the action on the thread. Max, you put my legs to shame! Sal, good luck on the 5K. Somehow I think you can handle it. A marathon before a 5K? That's just nuts! Hello Mila, Beth, Kendra and Tammy!!! Well my chiro kind of rained on my parade. She did not like the feel of my ropy hip flexor at all. She fussed at me for ab work, she fussed at me for running. She told me all I was doing was laying muscle on top of knots that need to be gone before I can add strength. Also that I was most likely fraying the ends of my tendons by trying to stretch without the knots gone and that I could risk another tear. Well, eff!!!!!! WTF am I supposed to do?

Hi Pam!

Well, was there any good news? I mean, she can't just dump something like that on you without telling you what you CAN do. Any suggestions, time frames, plan of action?

Okay, so you're gonna be limited for awhile. Focus on what you can do and let the hip flexors heal, THEN add muscle.

I don't feel like there was any good news. I can't afford to get it massaged 3x a week. I guess I can always swim and bike. That's what I did to prepare for my HIM with the injury. I just like to do my strength work now, so the heavy-duty lifting is over well-before my race season. I know it's inflamed. I can feel it. The lifting didn't seem to bother it, just the running. Maybe I'll try the elliptical? I dunno.

Hi Pam... Im sorry... battling injuries of any kind can be so hard mentally... especially when you are told to back off when yoy want to do the reverse

I saw the physio and teh massage guy last night and after my down time and then just swimming in the past 2 weeks they cant believe the improvements so even if you have to lay off for a bit maybe it wont be too long?

Hi Cat - did you get your orthos yet?

Picked them up last night... Im fitting them myself so just have to do that this weekend then start breaking them in... just an hour the first day and upwards from there!

What kind of ortho did you get?

avatar wise, try to find something that means something to you. I have changed mine several times now depending upon my mood. Dee has also changed hers, sometimes by choice, sometimes when forced to be a twinkie. My lates avatar is my two grandsons at halloween. The one before was my puppy dog, and before that I had a smiley offering an apple (Oct challenge I was on the poison apples team). Can't wait to see what you choose.

I agree... your avatar can become your identity pretty quick! My old on was a close up picture of half my face with sunnies on as I was giggling.... weird but it worked!

This one a BTer made for me when I had some bike success earlier in the year... somehow between now and then Ive developed a bit of an identity with it!

givemashot - 2007-11-15 1:32 PM I am not even gonna TRY and catch up with all these posts! When I left last night we were on page 21! I'll never get through them all AND post, too. I ran for 2 miles straight without stopping or slowing down! Yay me! And I had the TM set a little faster than usual, too. I felt soooo good afterwards, and I'm only sore in one spot today--just above my lateral malleolus on my L ankle. Weird. Anyone have any ideas for stretches, or prevention? I think it's something to do with the peroneus muscles...(thanks for the help with the anatomy book, Heather!). So this morning I took it east and did a light, slow 20 minute ride on the stationary bike. Felt better afterwards, but it's tightened up again now. How's everyone else doing on their goals?

Congrats Amy...well we're halfway through the month, so theoretically we should be halfway to our goals...so...

90% of swim goal
48% of trainer/bike goal
54% of run/treadmill goal

Thanks for the reminder!

I'm at 59% on the running,
60% on the weight sessions.

Go Nibbins!!!

Oh I forgot to mention earlier, I woke up this morning with this beast giving me kisses on the lips! My wife was laughing pretty good as she got him to do it.

Everyone, meet Simon, one of the biggest Australian Shepards you'll probably ever meet (75 lbs)!

Hi Simon!!!

Donto - he's cute:-)

not sure I'd want to wake up to his kisses though LOL

I should add his nickname is Slimon, he has some of the the most active saliva glands that a dog can have!!!

Bummer. Did she have any estimate on how long she thought that might be?
No. She thought it should be healed by now. She is afraid that it has healed around the knots and that the knots are now set in. So when I stress my hip flexor, my body fights back with immflamation. So she believes I have to "break it back down" before I can move forward.

can she recommend a good sports massage thearpist to help?  I was in a similar situation with my shoulders a few years back and my massage therapist worked wonders!

I've been to one who works on lots of runners and is a runner himself. I guess I'll have to give him a call. I will try to adjust my goals to compensate for my injury. Maybe swim in place of pilates from here to the end of the month. I don't want to give you any more work, Beth. I hate being injured!!!!

Now that's a very stealthy avatar. I started with a clip art red doggy then I switched to bike pics because my tri season this year was all about the bike!! Oh and I was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in October because I felt rather soft for not working out and I'm a huge fan of Ghostbusters.

Weekend do list Part 1:

Sat AM: Core WO then mow the yard.

Sat afternoon: Test drive a Toyota then drive down the street and test drive a Saturn.

They know my lease is about up on my Murano and I'll receive a $50 gift card from Toyota if I come in and test drive any of their cars.  Saturn is giving me a $15 local grocery store certificate to test drive one of theirs!

Sat PM: Heat the hot tub up and relax!

Cryin' shame you can't see those pink speedplay pedals better .  The actual color of the bike is "lavender duotone" so there's a very subtle hint of lavender in the silver.

Did I mention that I like pink, too?  Oh, and btw, a pink saddle is pretty easy to find in transition.

Oh wait.  You were talking about stars not bikes.  Oops, my bad.

Now don't say I never post any pictures.

Heh...I had a feeling a lot of us here on this site were cheap opportunistic thrifty and clever...I feel right at home with you guys...I'm building my tri bike (probably about $1200 retail) for about $600...
