Ya....

No where near my old times unfortunately...what am I gonna do about it though I guess? The theme of the weekend turned into a "well at least you came back and got in the water and did the race"...from everyone...my friends, coaches...my mom even went to "well technically you were solid"....ya...I obviously don't see things in this light...

But..

I got my shirt today!!! it was sitting on the counter when I got home from school! Thanks again Ann!!!

and...

I shadowed in nephrology (kidneys) today...wooo...I got to do rounds with my research supervisor (whom I am in love with) and 4 residents (2 whom were exceedingly good looking...1 is an R1---meaning he isn't that old...haha)...The hot R1 taught me stuff today...what to go through in your mind when a patient presents with delerium/loss of conciousness and indications for dialysis...oh yaaaaaa...Next shadowing time is on Wed....

Yay hot residents!....

You are still in comeback stage, Melissa.  It will get better, and you are still doing great right now!

Glad you enjoyed the residents!  Wink

5.15 mile run already in the books for the day!

What's on tap for today?

If the day goes as planned, a swim and a short run during a long lunch break!  Oh yes, and lunch!

ironannekidd - 2010-03-15 10:03 AM Question for THE VILLAGE

I may put this over in Tri Talk, too, I'm not sure.

I have bad feet, I wear custom orthotics and I pronate.

Last fall when I was going to PT, I had 2 PT's tell me I need a stability shoe. I used the little shoe finder on Runner's World, and it recommends a stability shoe.

In the fall I got a stability shoe. After I started running in it I started having knee and foot pain. I stopped using that shoe and got a cushioning shoe (osteoarthritis and all that good stuff). The knee and foot pain went away.

Last Saturday I went to a speciality running store and had my gait analyzed, they recommended a stability shoe, so that's what I got, a different kind than last time.

I started having knee and foot pain again yesterday on my run.

Should I stick with the often recommended stability shoe and hope my body learns to love it?

Or

Should I listen to my aches and pains and go back to a cushioning shoe?

I would err on the "listen to your body" side of the coin. That said, if your PT says you need something for your pronation you should consider that as well. How does it work if you wear orthotics with your cushioning shoe?

When I wore the orthotics with the cushioning shoes I had no pain in my joints at all.

Ann(e) I am not a specialist but I am thinking that orthotics with stability = too much stability

Cushioning + orthotics = stability that you need.

That is how I see it.

FWIW  I agree with Bill.

I wore my orthotics with neutral shoes and did fine when I run.  But I didn't want the extra trouble of making sure everything was in the right place when I put them on in transition.  So a running store fit me with new shoes w/o the orthotics.   They are  stability shoes.  So far I have no trouble when I wear them (up to 8-9 miles or two hours).

For the rest of my day, I still wear my orthotics with neutral shoes.  Works for me.

Probably not!  LOL

I should take my lunch, but I need to go to grocery store so there is not much to choose from.  If I buy something, it will have to be fast food.

Probably I will just take a banana and  a protein bar and some cheddar rice crackers.  huh, doesn't sound too exciting.

I've thought about trying to run without the orthotics, especially since I have the stability shoes. I get a lot of blisters on my feet and I'm sure it's because of the rubbing on the orthotic.

I have a short 3 mile run tomorrow, maybe I'll give it a try.

Yeah, as my runs were getting longer and I was still wearing the orthotics, I started having blisters too.  Another reason I looked into the stability shoes.

I ran a 5k last fall on a cross country course. My feet were torn to shreds. I used body glide, but the course was through the grass, and mud, and stones, and was uneven and all that good stuff. On the arches of both feet I had blisters that were larger than 50 cent pieces.

Just a couple of 30 minute rides.  I sure do like it!

I am still doing the bulk of my training on my old mtn bike, because I am riding it in my event on April 3rd.  I signed up in the mtn bike category.

It is a tri with mtn bike category and road bike category.  Then of course male vs female, all broken down into age groups.

It is a sprint tri  - 500 yd in a pool, 12 miles bike, 3.1 run.

It is on a college campus about 3 hours away.  It sounds like a good one for me to start with.  It is a fundraiser for the college triathlon team.

That's cool that the have the separate bike categories!

Pool swims are nice, too.

Yeah... we don't belong that far down the page.

We are missing Robin and Kim today. Maybe there are off in a hot tub with a bottle of wine and they forgot to let us all know. We'll probably hear from them when the wine is gone.

So I have a question: I had a nice run yesterday, and a nice double workout 2 days before that. Today I am feeling dizzy and nauseous off and on, and fatigued. I haven't been very consistent in my workouts, so I'm thinking maybe it's from the lactic acid my body's not used to? Sounds kinda dumb now that I typed it out. What do you guys think?

How has your food intake been with the increase in workouts?

I am not a scientist but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express before - so I am guess you are just fatigued - maybe LA maybe just worn out and your body is not really happy with you.  Eat a lot and take it easy and see if that helps!

I'm going to agree with Bill on this one. I know it's shocking isn't it?

When I increased my workouts I didn't increase my calorie intake and I felt how you described. Try eating a bit more throughout the day, and sipping some more liquids and see how you feel.
