Was it a lactate threshold test Dineen?  Those are brutal.  I need to do one for running but I'm a wuss.

Hmm, not sure if that's what it was.  The sheet says it was a 2 minute, 10 beat sub-max test.  We had to maintain 130 for 2 minutes, and report our effort level on a scale of 1-10.  Then 20 minutes at 140, report, 150, report, etc.

BRave, or stupid, not sure which.  Also signed up for a 5K in December and going to sign up for the Turkey Trot tomorrow, hopefully.  If humiliation is the best motivator, so be it.

Hey Manatees....Finished my third marathon on Sunday. If you're interested, head over to my blog to read the gory details. I've had a little injury so this 26.2 wasn't pretty.

I have to say, Quincy, that I invoked the presence of your thighs more than once during this run and was hoping for some of your speed.I don't think they made their way from Chicago in time though.

Alison -- have you decided on the 1/2 marathon yet?

Dinean -- What about that turkey trot?

Yanti -- I know the volcano isn't super close to you, but are you getting an residual ash?

Hi to all the Manatees!!

You're amazing Lynn.  I just hope I have half the grit you showed because I did sign up for the half mary.  I'm scared spitless that I won't be able to do it.  If you send your determination now maybe that will get to Chicago faster than Q's legs got to CA.

I am training with no pain now though, and I managed 22 miles last week.  I'm trying to get in at least one long run of at least 10 miles before the race to prove to myself that I'm capable of doing this.  I'm just afraid that if I try to do too much right now I'll end up hurt again.  Rock meet hard place.

So what is everyone dreaming/planning for next season?

Great job Lynn!  So inspiring.

You know you can, you know you can, you know you can!  I am sure you will succeed at that half mary.

Really bummed -- the 5K/10K turkey trot we did last year, I just learned after copious calling around, was cancelled due to the city giving the Y a hard time with permiting.  Bummer.  Now, we can either roll our own and just go out and run as a family, or else travel to the next city over, which may be a bit much.  Will have to talk to DH about it.

Helooooooo manatees.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Y'all must be out pounding the pavement since it's so quiet in here.  TGIF!  Hope everyone has a great weekend.  Supposed to be kinda rainy here.  Good for quality time with the couch and DVR.

Oooooh couch. DVR. Well ... I don't have a couch, but I have a really nice bed, and no DVR, but some great books.

Been busy because I've actually been getting out and working and living life now, and in my world that means the circus is in full swing. Heh. Need to get some more physical activity in, and continue good progress on my novel.

Hey all!  Hope the weekend is going well.  I am on a total high after having the best week in my logs in a long, long time.  Topped it off with 5 miles today (the first "long" run in my road to half marathon!) and it went well.  I got a late start and fubar'd our church plans, but was already feeling great from the run when I got home to kids dressed and fed, coffee brewed, and my breakfast just waiting to crack the egg fresh in the pan.   I uploaded and wrote this while eating a lovely breakfast of black beans, 2 over easy eggs, salsa and hot sauce (YUM!) and a nice cup of Joe, and now I need to hit the showers.  Feel like I could do just about anything today.

Okay, soooo ... how was everybody's weekend? How's everyone doing? Busy! Which is good!

I have dreams about doing Koh Samui ... it's a long-course (between half and iron distance) inaugural race in Thailand with a good RD.

It's in April.

It's probably a pipe dream because frankly I've barely gotten off my now-flabby azz at this time, but ...

It's cheap to dream. I also think, because it's an inaugural, because I know peeps, etc. that I'll probably be able to get in last-minute, so I lose nothing by starting training in December, provided I EASE INTO IT.

I just spent two days with food poisoning, but am much better now, so ... eh. Yikes.

I did a 9 mile run yesterday at just under a 10mm pace.  I actually feel like I'm going to be able to pull this off.  This week I'm shooting for a 4, two 5 and a 6 mile run before attempting an 11 mile long run on Sunday before my one week taper.

Food poisoning!  I think we need to get you a keeper to help you avoid all these illnesses.  Oh wait, you're getting married.  We just need to get you in the same location so he can keep an eye on her Yanti-ness for us.

Great run, Allison!

UNDER-do rather than overdo. Def see how you feel going into the 11-miler and cut it short and/or make it ridiculously slow if need be.  I'm not sure if it's the #1 mistake I see among long-distance runners, but it's up there: they make their last long run the race.

I think my fiancee has in mind a chastity belt and chaining me to a wall.

My plan is to do the 9 mile route again and tack on the extra two miles at the end so if I poop out after 9 I can stop and since the last two will be out and back I can cut that short as well without being too far from home.  Since the race is 13.1, it will be my last long run.  At least until my next one.

Sounds like you found a wise man who knows the woman he loves very well.  Love you Yanti

Yea Allison! Sounds like you're right on target. Unless you feel you just need that 11 miler for mental prep, you probably don't need it one week out. But it depends on how much you're going to push on the half marathon and how much tapering during the week you'll be doing. We'll have to see if Yanti agrees with me.

Speaking of Yanti - food poisoning, seriously? Dengue Fever and now food poisoning. Maybe I don't want to go to Indonesia.

And, you're looking quite svelte, darling. I remember the first avatar I saw of yours about 3 years ago. You've lost inches/weight, pretty impressive. Nice....

And, Dinean -- love those "good to be alive" moments. Yes, remember that you brought that on with your great run. Woo-hoo!

My weekend was spent up in the mountains near here at our little cabin in the forest. It was our 22nd wedding anniv. And, of course we three (15 yo son) went up for a getaway. Son ended up getting sick so we ordered in for pizza on Sat., our anniv. No biggee. We had a really nice hike yesterday morning, just the two of us.

So, I'm in full recovery mode. Haven't run since my marathon on 11/7 but get to run tomorrow. Yes, there actuallly is a marathon recovery plan where you ease back into running. I have a 1/2 marathon in January.

Oh, and we're going to Maui for Thanksgiving. Kind of a late birthday present for me (was in Oct.) and anniv. celebration, too. Any suggestions on what to do in Maui - snorkel, bike ride down the volcano after sunrise, zip lines, sushi and pineapple, what else???

Happy Monday Everyone!

I feel like I said pretty much the exact same thing to Allison, so yes.

Actually, the sequence would be dengue fever (sucks), chikungunya (REALLY sucks), and food poisoning (not bad AT ALL! Over in two days!!!). Nobody else gets eaten alive by mosquitoes like I do ... I can literally have THREE layers of 100% DEET on, and watch a mosquito land on my arm.

And thank you!!!!!

Yanti, plant basil all around your house.  Mosquitoes don't like it and you can make your own pesto.

Lynn, I'm not technically doing a plan at this point.  I was trying to do Hal Higdon intermediate program except replacing the speed work with an extra easy to moderate pace run.  Then I lost 3 weeks and have been kind of playing catch up.  The plan had the last long run of 12 miles one week before the race so I figured 11 shouldn't be too much.  I've also been doing more easy mileage than the plan calls for in an attempt to get my body strong enough to handle the long runs.  Totally unscientific, but I've been trying to take the "run lots. mostly easy, sometimes hard" advice to heart.

I await hordes of Italian-food-loving piglets and expect to hear swarms of mosquitoes stop in their tracks.

Allison - Good luck on your upcoming HM and way to just do it and sign up! I know you will do well...you're a very determined woman.

Lynn - Happy belated anniversary!  Hiking up in the mtns sounds like a nice, relaxing time (minus the kiddo being sick).  And that's awesome that you are going to Maui next week.

Sorry that I have been MIA recently. I have been swamped with work and schoolwork (2 take home finals due next week and professors are crazy with the length of questions...like we all don't have actual jobs to do too) and planning a last minute vacation.  We are going to London next week (neither I nor the DW have been before so we are excited). It's our last hurrah before baby arrives in March. Oh and I laid around and did nothing for the past fews days in a lazy birthday celebration for myself (it was on 11/11).
