I keep thinking when I swim better I'll post a video for help... Kinda defeats the purpose, no? I guess I don't want anyone to see how pathetic i really am...

Post now. I did it, and no one can be as poor a swimmer as I am. I got a lot out of not only posting it, but looking at it, as well. I didn't really know what I looked like when I was swimming.

I want to.  I either have to drag my DH or son along as videographer or figure out how to stand my iPhone up on the pool deck.

Am I still allowed to do it if there is no flip turn?

Well, speaking of eye rolling, did you see that persons post in the thread you created to fatten my head? He said I should use a Garmin so that I can avoid walking the end of my marathon. Huh?

I think he missed the point.

Yeah, agarose ... it's okay, he's the font of both unsolicited and unuseful advice.

There are quite a few people, and quite a few posts, and I know you feel the same way because you don't post in Tri Talk much, where I want to ask ... "You have reading comprehension problems, don't you? I'm sorry about that."

WARNING

I have recently had my medications adjusted so if I seem meaner or snarkier than usual, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Or it's just my true self coming out. Whichever.

I wondered about that too.

I wouldn't be giving ANY kind of advise to someone who'd been running a year and SMASHED a race like Salty did.  Rather, I think I would be begging for said smasher's advise!

hehe, thanks. I had to hold my tongue. But what I really wondered is why they had the idea I walked. I said I slowed down but that's more like... down to an 8 min pace vs low 7s.

I just have a hard time believing that looking down at a watch is miraculously going to make me run faster.

I admittedly screwed up on my pacing early on but that was because of the A. the tunnel and B. because I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone so that I know my absolute limits. Looking down at a watch wouldn't change that.

Seriously? You finished in 3:22...did they think you ran 5  min miles then had a lovely cool down stroll for the last mile or so? HOnestly, I'm starting to rethink my obsession with technology and just get out there and RUN because of you.  THAT is the take-away from Salty's super-speedy marathon

Alright, racing/training question. I need some advice.

Should I do another marathon in late November? It would give me 5 months to train for Boston. OR should I just keep volume up, doing smaller races like 5K, 10Ks and  half marathons along the way.

I said I never wanted to do Seattle again because of the crap weather and difficult course but, it would be interesting to see a years worth of improvement. Maybe that's not a good reason in this case. I don't know!

The one time I did Seattle, it was overcast and chilly -- about the best you could hope for.  I haven't wanted to roll the dice again.

Or to quote another friend of mine: "you PAID to run in Seattle in November?"

Sign up for Honolulu early December is my recommendation

I second Honolulu, though it can be hot as furk. But you'll be done by 8am.

Hi Spiglet. Feel free to come here anytime. Oh, and I have a question for you too ... do those flies in Busso actually bite, or just land on you and follow you and annoy you?

Busso flies i belive are just persistent and annoying.  One of the few Australian creatures not out to kill you.

The vast majority of people doing their first, say, FIVE (out of my azz but probably not too far off) marathons screw their pacing up (mostly going out too fast but not quite pushing hard enough and bizarrely going faster in the last few miles is often heard too). And they're all wearing watches.

Sigh. I probably will say something. I'm on a roll. Someone should probably stop me before I get spanked ...

Good. I'm glad. I also want to clarify that I think technology has a place for some people, sometimes. But I think when depended upon, it is a huge limiter in our ability to really know our bodies. When enough is enough and when we can dig deep and push.

Speaking of technology...

After watching a gazillion (estimated) Strava commercials during TdF and reading the BT thread about it I decided to check it out (I currently use RunKeeper). I downloaded the app and I am sooooo excited to go do my normal routes again because it keeps track of all the users riding those same "segments" and deems the fastest as KOM (or QOM)!  I can't wait to go home and ride now!  That will def push me on my rides, which is nice since I don't ride with a group to push me.

When I ran the Tacoma marathon, I went out fast on purpose.  The middle section of the race, about miles 9-18, are enough uphill that you can't maintain your target pace.  So you have to build a buffer early and then try to hold on.  It makes for a hard race but it CAN be done that way.  I blew up at the end, but that was exactly where my long training runs had ended.  Shocking.

Seriously? You finished in 3:22...did they think you ran 5  min miles then had a lovely cool down stroll for the last mile or so? HOnestly, I'm starting to rethink my obsession with technology and just get out there and RUN because of you.  THAT is the take-away from Salty's super-speedy marathon

To know your body intimately like Salty does is a) free, and b) possibly the most valuable information you can get and use certainly in athletics, but I believe in life in general.

You just had to use the word intimately, didn't you?

And you just happened to zero in on it, didn't you?

I think I like the new meds....

I admittedly screwed up on my pacing early on but that was because of the A. the tunnel and B. because I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone so that I know my absolute limits. Looking down at a watch wouldn't change that.

Shocking.

I actually felt that way about Seattle. I'd start out fast if I did it again. The Gailer, Madison and the arboretum nearly killed me.

She. And guaranteed she didn't read my post closely, and misinterpreted BOTH what I posted and exactly how Bernoulli's principle does (and doesn't, which I clarified) apply.

But what the hell do I know, it's basic math

Heh someone get IronCowgirl over there.  She'll outmath all of them.

Or better yet, convince H2OKiller to make (another) new account Laughing

YET another new account (I think he was up to 7 or 8 by the time he FINALLY got booted ... just could not change his posting style) ... I think I'm the only person here who actually liked the guy. Or at least his advice, which most of the time was razor-sharp spot-on.

Did my wish come true?  Poseidon1650, 1 post, sounds vaguely familiar
