we really should have named this group the walking wounded!!! So glad everyone is starting to feel better!

No races for me this weekend. Did buy a new car this weekend. You know you are a triathlete when...you go to test drive a new vehicle and take it to the local bike shop to make sure you bike can fit in the back!!!! Got a great deal on a new Honda CRV. I really like my new car.

Plan on running today and going for a swim

Happy Valentines day!

Congrats on the car purchase Mav, and so glad to hear your bike fits.Laughing

We have had our fair share of injuries.  Let's hope we can stay healthy once the training season kicks in.
My chiropractor did wonders with my leg this week.  I was able to do the indoor tri this morning pain free.  He was the sponsor, so his massage therapist was there to stretch me out before and after the race.
I was very pleased with the end result.  I beat all of my distances from last year and finished 1st in the masters category and 2nd overall.  The winner was 53.  How awesome in that?  She beat me last year too.
Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Hi gang,
sorry I have been AWOL.  Work has been kicking my tail.  so has the snow packed roads and bitter cold.  It's no fun running in the dark on snow pack.  I finally got another run in on Friday (had the day off for Lincoln's Bday, have today off for Pres. Day)  I hope to get my run in today - but the kids are home....can't really leave a 6 y/o in charge of the 5 and 2.5 year old.    My schedule (training for a half) calls for 4-5 hills....not sure how far I am supposed to run, but it's 1.1 miles or so to the hill, so I guess I'll get at least 3 in?  On a good note, before taking my dw out for dinner on Sat. we stopped at body n sole and I picked up a new pair of Brooks - adrenaline - after having my gait anaylzed.  Said I pronate, but not much.  I guess that is good.

I'll have to catch up on reading posts in a little bit.  Many pages to read....have to keep one ear trained to the kiddos...

Kelly - congrats on the indoor Tri - NICE job!!
Tried riding the bike this morning and my feet went numb after 3 miles, so I did a little strength training in the garage.  Had an 11am work appt cancel so I did my own mini sprint at the YMCA - 9 miles on a bike trainer, 3.1 mile run followed by a swim to cool off.  Grabbed a sandwich and smoothie at the house to go, and back to work-
Have a good day everyone-

Ok...think I  caught up on posts.  Good job on the tri Kelly.  I don't know if I will ever do one, indoors or out.

Kevin - if someone was offended by your post, well, IMHO, they need to lighten up.

Let's see, trying to remember who did the 10 K....oh, fudge - anyway - good job!  (Marianne?)

It's been a busy day of not "working".  I only get a few uninterrupted moments on the computer and I have to figure out supper and do figure out what to charge some drunk driver with - we have too many laws.  Wish we could just charge them with "Aggravated Mopery" and be done with it sometimes.

Meanwhile, I'm supposed to do hills today...4 degree windchill....I dunno about this one.  Maybe Kevin, aka "alien, not allen" can inspire me again today.

got my run in - sure was cold

when the training plan says "4-5 hills" - does that mean 4 up and 4 down, or 2 up + 2 down = 4?  I bet its 4 and 4, isn't it?  oh well.  Like I said, it was cold.

Yeah its 4 hills Duane. Ya gotta run UP 4 times. The downhill does not count! It is FUN to run downhill though!
Glad you got your run in.

Hi guys...yes my shoulder is feeling a little better.  Not well enough to swim (sigh), but well enough that I think I can hop on the trainer this weekend (it hurt to even reach for the handlebars).  The PT wants me to have an X-ray, but I can't get an appointment with my GP until the 20th.  It also looks like my employer is going to change my desk set-up, which will be great for my shoulder.  In the meantime, I need something to keep me modivated.  So, I will be looking at what road races are out there.

And how does your shoulder feel today? Can you go to a walk in just to get a req for an xray?
I hear you on the difficulty in getting in to see your Doc. I use walk ins A LOT because many times my docs office will tell me they can see me in three months or so. Yeah thats helpful.

Good evening all!!  Can anyone provide some feedback on trigger point massage therapy??   I think Mav may have mentioned it a few weeks ago, but I'm too lazy to look back thru all the posts to find it  With the on and off trouble I've had with my legs I've been looking into it online.  I use a foam roller once in a while, but not enough - tonight I used a 3ft piece of 1 inch PVC pipe!!  I located the trigger point on a web site responsible for the area in my ankle where I've had some recent discomfort and there are two major knots!!  I rolled them using my hands with the PVC (more comfortable than a roam roller and I can better pinpoint the area) for about 15 minutes.  Will do it again before bed and a couple times tomorrow.
Anyone have advice or experience with this technique?

Well, that would just figure.  *grr*  I probably could have sucked it up and ran the overpass again.  HOWEVER it was slick...  (poor excuse better than none?)  I've learned that the Brooks don't seem to have the traction on snow/ice that my Nike's do.  that or it was just A LOT slicker today.

yellow shoes = being seen?  Red bikes?  I know what they used to say about women in red heels, especially "pumps".  Does the red bike mean the same?

I apologize for being a little absent this weekend. I'm dealing with a bit of a headache all weekend and just haven't been in the mood to think or type. Hopefully this gets better after my massage tomorrow.

Have a great night everyone.

Kev - i bought my wife a gift cert for a massage last year for her bday and she's never used it.  You're welcome to it, but might be a bit of a drive.

Good evening all,

Well the shoulder was feeling pretty good the past few days, so I thought I would catch up on a little housework (vacuuming, washing floors, laundry and scrubbing the bath tub & shower).  I guess I did too much because the shoulder is sore today.  Continuing with the physio exercises, but I am getting a bit frustrated.  This is not the way I wanted to start the tri season.

Helen...hope your night shifts go by quickly

Kevin...I hope your heachache is better.

Marianne... Enjoying the new car

Have a great week everyone...

K.

Mike: The trigger point exercises are part of a kit you purchase including the rollers are covered with foam. The exercises that are done are specific to the body parts ie IT band. I have a roller called muscle trac. I have used it alot. Its not as "nice" as a foam roller but its VERY effective. Both of these instuments of torture can be found on trisports.com.

Karen: be careful of doing "daily" chores. Housework is harder than you think!!!

Yellow shoes=peeing on the run . Not nearly as noticeable when your shoes are yellow. GROSS!!! However peeing on the bike is a necessity on the long course.

I've seen the kits, but most seem to be expensive.  I'll stick with my foam roller and PVC pipe for now - either way its all torture!!  Ran again this am and felt really good.  Best run I've had in a while
