thndrcloud - 2010-11-29 3:49 AM Dineen - I read the article. Your quotes come off very well and reflect your keen intelligence. Not that I'm surprised. Make sure you get a clipping of that one.

So I did my HM this morning and already did my race report because my awesome DH has declared that I am off limits to the children today. They apparently are not allowed to ask me for anything, jump on me, complain to me or really do anything other than shower me with hugs, kisses and praise. The little dude has said "Mommy rocks" so many times I've lost count. The best part is that today I really do feel like I rock!

Hi there Manatees.  Hope everyone had a good holiday overall.  We (me, husband, and kid) had 9 days off, so we did our best to enjoy every minute!  Back to the grind...and working off all of the extra calories.

Dineen - Very cool to be quoted in the Times!

Allison - Super awesome job on the HM!!!

Great RR!!!!

That dump-on-the-seat and you skedaddling outta there super fast had me rolling with laughter ... but you all know how I am about toilet humor.

But, course logistics notwithstanding ...

dinabean - 2010-11-27 9:48 PM OK, this is totally lame and self centered, but bear with me, because it is not everyday one is quoted in the New York Times:

So I may have already mentioned this, I keep forgetting what I write where ...

Anyhow, I really am putting Indonesia on the tri-map! That had been a goal of mine in starting the Bali Tri Club (the first official tri club in Indonesia, too!) ...

but now it's for real, I am taking the first retinue of Indonesian triathletes into official international competition in May, at the Arafura Games! (that's a regional Games like the Commonwealth or Pan-Pacific, etc.)

So ... now it's just a little matter of putting the team together, figuring out training and coaching, gear, uniforms, sponsorships, travel arrangements, etc. etc.

But I'm ridiculously excited!!!

Very impressive Yanti. I can't even get organized enough to join and existing tri club here. I have no trouble believing that you will make everything happen even if it's just through sheer force of will.

I'm glad my RR made you laugh. I'm sure weird things happen in every race but what's odd is that whatever happens a Manatee either causes, witnesses or experiences it.

Completely unrelated, I learned flip turns yesterday. Incredibly ungainly, graceless flip turns. Actual manatees would shun me, but it's a start.

Sweet!!! That's the only way to go at first! You didn't learn to walk gracefully in a day either, right? And lookatcha now!

Manatees are the denizens of weirdness, that is for sure, in such a delightful way.

And how often do Manatees come up in daily conversation? Funny, a bunch of my friends asked me at dinner tonight, "Hey, Yanti, what do you call those swimming piglets?"

That's an awesome achievement/honor Yanti...way to go!

Sorry that I have been MIA recently. I was in London for a few days and this week I have been swamped at work. It just seems like things keep coming up...well besides actually working out of course   Sigh oh well.  Although last night I did manage to get the Christmas lights on the balcony since the DW loves them so much. Now I just have to take down the autumn decor inside...pumpkins are a sign of Christmas right?

Pumpkins are appropriate decor year-round. They are a healthy vegetable. Unless, of course, they've gone that stinky greenish-brown fuzzy route.

Ah, you jetsetting globetrotter ...

And I see you posted right after me again. No, no need to thank me, of course I anticipated it and posted first.

You two do realize that this only happens following one of my posts, right?  Sometimes I post and nothing happens, sometimes Yanti posts and Ryan is MIA, and sometimes Ryan posts all by himself.  When one of Ryan's posts comes immediately after Yanti's it is always after me though.  I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

OK, you three, break it up!  In all seriousness, I seem to not get notifications anymore on this thread, and it is driving me nutso!

Yanti, I have no doubt you will pull all of it together and get an amazing team going.  With her Yantiness as team captain, what could go wrong?????

I've been a busy beaver on the home front, but did squeeze in a race this past Saturday -- the same Jingle Bell 5K I did last year.  It's hilly (for Florida) and last year, it was my worst 5K time ever.  This year I did not PR, but I did better, and for that, I am thankful.  I am calling it a course PR, haha.  Also?  Brrrr.  It was 34 degrees.  I know that's just starting toward cold for you Chicago-ans, but here in Florida, we call that frosty cold.  Decided not to drag the kids to the kid races and make them stand out in the cold for 2 hours.

Good call on leaving the kids at home.  Unless there's snow for them to play in nothing good ever comes of refrigerating children.

I'm all off-kilter right now.  I'm thinking I want to run another half marathon at the end of March which would mean I'd start a 12 week training program at the beginning of January.  Except I just did a half marathon so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to schedule my runs between now and then.  On top of that the 20 week HIM training should be starting in February and I the hubs is looking at doing the Chicago marathon and I thought I'd try to train with him and if things go well I'd find a different marathon to run in October.  That training plan would start in May.  Oh, and there's the century ride I'm doing in the middle of June that I'm going to have to train for somehow.  GAH!!!!

Do I do the HM training then just add in the bike and swim stuff when it's time to start that plan, then jump into the HIM plan for the run after the race?  Then just follow the HIM training and jump into the marathon plan after that race?  Am I trying to do too many events?

Lady, my brain is rattling.

Okay, list what you're thinking of doing, which ones you want to do the most starred, in CHRONO order, with dates. Then maybe something coherent will issue forth from me.

That sure would be nice for a change

The HIM is definitely the A race for next year.  The HM is important because it's my motivation to keep training, avoid putting on 10lbs and becoming a sloth.  My informal cycling team is doing the century but it's a charity ride so I could ride with the pack which would mean taking it slow and stopping for 5-10 minutes every 15 miles or so.

I could drop the other races if I'm being ridiculous, or do PP and Chicago as sprints instead of Olympics.

It's a considerable pleasure to think about screwing up someone else's race schedule instead of my own

A few questions. This'd be your first HIM, right? you want to cakewalk, or because it's an A race you want to nail it? on the one hand, first attempt at any distance really should be for the experience and participation. on the other hand, you're a great athlete, and really, why do all the hard work training for it if you're not going to go for it? then again, you're a very busy person and family woman, so that'll figure into it, too.

How many hours a week do you have available to train, and how important is it to you that you do as well as you can?

What's your weak link? Swimming? And why, or what is it specifically about your limiter sport that limits you?

FWIW, your starred entries look very doable. The entire schedule looks doable, but it really depends on your time availability and goals.

It is my first HIM and I would like to do my best.  My weak link is my swimming and I think that's mostly because I consider it a pain in the butt.  I really enjoy swimming, but unlike running and biking you don't just jump in the pool to swim some distance and be done.  To improve in swimming I have to do drills and work on technique and swim sets.  I'm half intimidated by the swim workouts and half lazy about having to put that much effort into it.

My winter, spring/fall, summer available time changes.  Right now I can do about 5 hours at the gym during the week.  DH gives me whatever time I need/want to spend on the trainer in the evenings and I can get at least one long workout away from the house on the weekends.  The time at the gym is running on the treadmill, since I can't take the little due outside running in the cold, and in the pool.

In the spring when I can run outside I'll have more time for running and swimming since I'll have the same amount of gym time but won't need to split it with running.  Once summer hits I can train as long as I want for the most part as long as I slip the teenager some cash for watching her siblings.
