Anybody else racing this weekend?  I've got a Spartan race tomorrow - 8 miles of trail, obstacles and a bit of swimming without goggles but with shoes.  It's going to be a blast.

That is just every kind of awesome ... and so are you.

GOOD LUCK ANN-MARIE!

Very cool! Good luck and have fun!

No races for me but I AM going to the Brooks PR event. It's the top high school track athletes  in the nation (unfortunately all track, no field.) It should be fun to watch.

Are field activities more fun to watch?  I love a good discus competition.

Well of course, who doesn't love the track (4x400 anyone???) but I pole vaulted in HS AND believe it or not was a shot-putter in middle school so I think I am biased Smile

I was a shot-putter and discus thrower.  My son and youngest daughter followed in my footsteps.     I hated running when I was in HS.  I taught my kids how to pretend they were running when the track coach forced them to but really cheat because it was unnecessary to expend energy on a silly sport that people only did if they couldn't throw.  I get mother of the year award for that one, eh?

Ahh hahaha I love it! Mother of the year for sure! I could teach them a thing or two about hiding in the equipment shed on top of the pole vaulting mats until warm-ups were over...

I would actually hide on a residential street with the other throwers and then when we saw the runners coming back, we would jump back in at the end.  We were the "turtles" anyway so people just accepted us as finishing in the back of the pack not knowing that we only did a 1/4 of the actual run.

Go Ann Marie.  Looking forward to the muddy pictures! ;-)

I too did track in HS.  Hurdles and sprints.  Did the 400 and 4x400 as well.  I hated that race.  I always puked at the end.  Hurdles were fun, if not a little dangerous.  To this day my parents wonder how I could possibly get a 9 inch scar on my calf (spikes) and a concussion (tripping over hurdles).

Oooooh, yeah hurdles are quite dangerous. I stay the hell away. I am a renewed hurdle fan though, two words: Lolo Jones

I am in a volume building phase and just surpassed 200 miles yesterday. I'l probably reach  250-60-ish by the end of the month.

Everything is holding up well. The biggest thing I have had to change is my diet. At almost 10 miles a day I have to eat an extra 1000 calories-ish. Needless to say, there is a jar of PB at my desk with a knife in it...

Now I know where to come if I get hungry. @10 miles a day I wouldn't be able to keep up!

Good Morning All.  I am preparing to embark on a 4.5 hour trainer ride.  Have the next 2 days off work and am very psyched to get in one last long ride, and run before the end of the month.  Next month I am going to focus lots of more on my swim.

I entered the Kona Lottery last week.  It's such a long shot, but oh well.

Speaking of speed. I think I may have set the world record this weekend. 13 minutes to shower, do my hair, get dressed and get out the door. It's a damn good thing I don't wear makeup and also a good thing I was going to a basketball game and not something more...posh.

Do you guys ever have those times where training and the real world don't play so nicely together? Yeaaah...

I think my answer would really depend on your goals with strength training. When my goals were to build muscle and get stronger NOTHING compared to a 5x5 plan 3 days a week like starting strength or stronglifts. It's all about lifting heavy, doing compound lifts. None of this "balance on one leg on a bosu ball with a 5 lb weight in your hand."

I didn't find myself getting bored because it was a quick and efficient plan (30 minutes, tops) and is designed for weekly improvement so you are always moving up in weight.
