Awesome. Is that a PR?

Seeing as though I've never run a stand alone half mary, yes.  LOL.

OK that made me laugh!

But gave me an idea (since I have not PR'd anything in years!), I just need to run a distance I have never done before...oh wait, I guess I PR'd my ultra last month. Cool!

So my usual 30-minute run route took 28:30 today. Could it be that I'm making progress??

Scott, we may have talked about this before. Is there any benefits to creatine in our sport, specifically to recovery and strength? If so, do you reccommend any particular type or brand?

20 mile bike ride and a 5k run! It is nice today. Overcast, but humid, in the 70s with 13 mph winds. Made the bike ride interesting.

Congratulations Scott. That's a great time.

I managed to figure out a few things with my 910, used the HRM for my run today. It is so cool to see the data - speed, elevation, pace, GPS route. Now I am going to see if I can figure out how to set up the cadence sensor. I am so technologically/gadget challenged, this should be interesting to see.

Jeff have you ever done Cyclocross? A 17 year old female from here just won the nationals in WI. Her dad was heavily involved in the MTB community here, owned and operated a skate park construction co and a bike shop and recently died. So it was heartening to see the video of his daughter after she won speak about her dad. I have never done it but it looks awesome.

There is a small local cyclocross race a few towns over held every December. They actually have a mountain bike class, so I've done that the last two years. Definitely fun and challenging.

I will be getting on the mountain bike this coming weekend. Pending weather of course. Can't wait.

Really it's used more in sprint athletes, like 100m guys not sprint triathlon, and explosive movement guys.  There are tons of studies that prove this.  Not so much for endurance athletes.  More anecdotal, n=1, type stuff.  If I were to use it I'd go with a reputable company like Gaspari:

Morning!  1600 yd. swim this morning where I mostly did drills.  I was super excited to swim back and fly!  I actually liked this swim a lot because there were so many different elements to it.  I was supposed to lift after, but I forgot a sports bra.  I'll have to make it up later this week.  I am feeling so strong in the water.  Something must have really clicked over the last 3 months, because I've improved.  Now to fix this run....

I was thinking of getting the metronome app on my iphone and using it for running.  I think it would help with my overstriding issue.  Has anyone used a metronome to help with running cadence?

Morning everyone. I don't get to say this very often, but I had a great swim this morning. I am still slow as molasses and nothing has clicked for me yet, but it was still a good swim for me. I did weights before the swim too. Now I am at work for what looks to be a very busy day.

You shouldn't really need any more big purchases for awhile ... race wheels can be rented and race fees are intermittant

For anyone interested in my Hot Yoga escapades ... I have a horrible heat intolerance and signed up for a very heat intensive race in mid-July.  I wanted to see if I could get my body to accliminate to heat.

I have done about 10-12 hot yoga classes over the last month.  It was very hard at first, either not being able to do the work or being so miserable with the heat I frequently had to sit down for breaks as I was near passing out from the heat.

I have found that I very much like the hot yoga (the sweating is very addicting).  I can do all the poses and get better each time I go.  While I still sweat a ton (depending on the class), I don't really feel the heat that much anymore. Fans during my workouts now actually make me a little bit cold.

I have found that this class has really helped to de-stress my very stressful life right now.  I find myslef calmed during and after class.  It is certainly helping with flexibility and has helped to eliminate small pains/sorenesses.  It has also really forced me to pay attention more to hydration given the intensity of the sweating.

Anyway ... happy Monday

Nice!!  I've always wanted to try hot yoga,  but it's not out by me and the price is a little off putting.  Heat acclimation works from what I've seen.  My friends who moved their runs to 4 or so in the afternoon about two months out of IMTX ran much better than those that didn't.

So I was reading through the article about pros changing bike brands and thought Leanda Cave's new ride looks sweet.

Snow on the outdoor pool deck this morning, but the pool was actually open.  My feet nearly froze off before I could get to the water (note to self: get flip-flops!), but once I got in, it felt good.  3200m this AM.

The biggest thing that will help with over striding is running up hills.  Its almost impossible to over stride because the angle of grade esentially "reaches up" and catches your foot before you can over stride.

You know you can just wear your swim suit under your work out clothes . . . I've had to do that several times.
