You're not a crappy runner, you just had a bad day. And you did accomplish something pretty cool...even if it wasn't as fast as you wanted. Maybe, on a few days reflection, you won't be so ticked off - In the meantime, the Nibs will be proud for you. EDIT: x3. Lots of factors in the big first marathon. Nutrition, clothing, pacing. You done good, man! Take it as an acheivement. Plenty of learning opportunities. Lots of work to do until next October... Edited by sparco 2007-12-03 9:42 AM |

I am getting many props for my new avatar, but also many questions about how many ferrets I have & how I keep them from smelling bad. LOL! I don't know what is worse, to explain the story behind the avatar or to just lie and pretend like I have one. Hmmm. What would Nibs do? |

Well, November ended on Friday. I figured I'd give people until Saturday night to post their final results. That would allow me to calc the results on Sunday. (A "nonwork" day.) Oh well. LOL PS - why are you here? shouldn't you be swimming, so that you're not Pat's slave next month? |

All distances will be converted to yards/metres for ease of comparison… Finally… the penalty: Sig line change “I got whipped by X in the December Swim Challenge so this month I am his/her slave”
To make it fair with the time difference neither swimmer will post any swims take on December 31 until January 1 USA time to ensure that neither competitor can play ‘catch up’ in the final moments. I LOVE it! LMAO - Im already regretting it... what can I step down from a challenge? YOU were the one who issued the challenge. So nope, can't step down now. You'd better just swimmy swim swim until your arms fall off. In fact, you shouldn't be reading this now. YOU SHOULD BE OFF SWIMMING! Have a nice (swimmy) month. Or you're gonna be Pat's slave NEXT month. |

One of my triclub members suggested that the wind - which was gusting at 30 mph - would've slowed down an unshielded runner by 30-45 seconds a mile, but given that Yanti PRed I don't really buy that. Yanti is like Chuck Norris...the wind moves around her to avoid getting pummeled by her. OK, sad, but just a thought. |

We're all different Scott. My mary PR is a 4:07. Ran Fargo last May hoping to PR. Wind threw me for a loop and I hit the wall and ran a 4:15. Several of my buddies who have had >4:15 PRs broke 4 hrs that day. I was discouraged, but not disgusted. We take what the day gives us. |

I had a horrible race. 4:40. I can't race in temperatures below 50 degrees. I was wheezing and coughing at the finish line, I was wheezing after I took my shower and even when I was trying to take a mid-afternoon nap, I was wheezing and couldn't catch a deep breath. Woke up 3 hours later, I could breathe mostly without wheezing, and after some pizza out I was better. But I had a horrible race and it was disappointing given how much time I put in getting ready for this one. Next one - I'm picking a warmer weather race - maybe the Cowtown in the first Saturday in October. stop right there! you did NOT have a horrible race - it may not have been what you were hoping for - but it was a PR AND you accomplished something that most people never will! be proud! All I accomplished was a) finishing and b) not ending up in the ER. I did not have fun. At all. It hurt. I ran poorly. I busted my azz running this run and I'm still a crappy runner. This really, really bothers me. Here's the RR if you want to read it FWIW: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=97645&posts=1&start=1 Scott I have to agree with the girls on this one. How can you expect something when you have never attempted it before. Besides like Beth said this is your baseline PR from which all other accomplishments will compare. You accomplished a freaking marathon, at least enjoy that thought. Besides you need to remember that there are others that want to emulate you and now you have a bank of knowledge from which to draw from. You did it man, maybe not the times you wanted, but you did it. Savor it. |
