Cold run this morning...thought I was heading out into mild humid conditions and dressed for that, but cold front had already come through.  Brrrr!!!  Nothing for you northern folks though.

Hey everyone....

I hate to bring it up but since last nights post, Scott and I have been going in circles about HR vs Power.  I know we aren't going to get a computrainer at this point since Scott wants a new bike(his will hit 6000 miles soon).  Nor will we be getting a power tap and hub yet.  What I was looking at is the Garmin cadence sensor that will link to my watche and utilizing the virtual website for indoor rides.  The cadence sensor I use now does not save the information on cadence so I never know what the average is, whether I'm indoors or not.  Average cadence isn't as pressing for Scott since he has been riding so long.

Would the added information gathered, even in the Virtual sense, be worth replacing my cadence sensor and using the website.

I don't think cadence would be that important in itself.  I bought the garmin ant+ bike sensor to go with my new watch and I think the great benefit is that it will allow me to download speed and cadence along with the other info from the watch (HR, altitude, etc.).  I would suggest you check out SportTracks as they have an add-on to their software that will take a garmin cycling file and do all the power calculations so you can at least analyze your rides from a power perspective.  You can also use the formula for the CycleOps trainer to cross into power #s.  PM me if you want more info.

I had to get my bike workout at lunch time at the velodrome: 1:01:27, 20.69mi (avg spd 20.2 MPH) + short brick run 0:20:21, 2.22Mi.  Today, my back tire tube exploded after 10 mins of riding going at 22mph, fortunately I was able to come to a controlled stop without incidents (glad it wasn't the front tire and that I did not had anyone trailing behind me).  I'm tired today, so I will be skipping my 2nd workout of the day.

I did an indoor trainer ride tonight but it felt pretty rough.  My legs are quite fatigued after the 21.48 miles in 1:25:59.  It was supposed to be a tempo type workout but my legs were so tired that no matter how hard I tried to pedal my HR still averaged only 130.  I'm guessing that means my aerobic fitness is much better than my cycling leg strength fitness?  Hopefully I can recover for my hill repeat run workout tomorrow.

And here is where the frustration is...   You would think that after completing a few races I would have a clue about some basic things but maybe not.  All the talk last night of HR must have put my head in a fog.  For whatever reason when I was doing today's workout I realized I didn't know what HR I should be at.  The session was designed to be done at tempo or race pace, I realized I had no idea what that was so I kept my HR where I normally do in the aerobic sessions.... So I wouldn't say a wasn't session of training but it wasn't as productive as it probably should have been...

Didn't feel like running the 10 miles I was supposed to run, so I told myself I'd run 4. Then I saw I forgot my shoes. So 1/2 hour trainer ride tonight. Just felt run down all day. After bike ride, I feel better. (That happens a lot).

Finally took the time to see the doctor about the back.  The pain is gone but it's still stiff, good news is he cleared me for training.   Took about a week off to let the back heal itself, should have just gone to the doc in the first place.  Changed my race schedule for the season.  Instead of doing an Oly as my second race ever, I will do 3 sprints and then the Oly in Sept.  I am really impressed with you guys and gals who have been training everyday.   Keep up the good work.

Don't worry Scott, we're all on the same boat. You will have days when your legs will feel like two concrete blocks, other days when you'll feel like a gazelle. Part of the frequency game. Hopefully at the end you will feel great even on your bad days.

I feel the same. Very tired and struggle to get out of bed. Have a ride planed for this afternoon. Hopefully will tackle the little bumps that we call hills over here. Hope to go for another swim in the morning so another early start

I was awake this morning enough to get out of bed...no motivation.  Will have to setle for a 30 minute run at lunch.  Probably the right thing for me at this point of the month.  This is quickly becoming a recovery week.  With that thought in mind...is there a rule of thumb in decrease of volume during a recovery week?  For some reason I have a 20% reduction in mind so that if my last week was 600 minutes this week would be 480 minutes?

Today was planning an easy 3 mile run at MAF, but Garmin was not working. So did an easy 3 mile run, but no HR, time, or pace data. I think my HR was slightly above the last few runs, just based on effort and how I felt at the end of the run. Guesstimate of 40 min.

2nd day in a row with Garmin not working. Charged it all night and this morning did not even turn on. After my run, I reset it and got it on, so will see if it works on Thursday (tomorrow is swimming day). Concerned its on its way out...I feel naked running or biking without it - no HR, pace, speed, cadence data. Thankfully I do the same route all the time so I know the distances.

Follow-up on my right calf. Last run (Sunday) I felt something on my lower right leg (mid-way between the ankle and the lower calf, on the back of the leg), like a strong tightening sensation or knot. I iced it, and it kind of went away after a day or so, and I did swimming and biking with no issues (during or after).

However, at the end of today's run I felt tightening again, and now is back to square one. There is no pain, just like a "cramping" or slight ligament strain sensation. I think I will stop running for the rest of the week (which means more swimming and biking - much needed), and then see how I feel on Monday.

Funny how things change...a couple of months ago, I would use this as an excuse to stop training. Now I am worry about it forcing me to stop, even for a day. I know that is better to lose a few training days than to lose a couple of months if it turns into something more, so I am paying close attention to it. But it seems to go away after a couple of days, and biking and swimming do not seem to aggravate it, so we will see what happens.

swam my first drill set today instead of length after length - awesome fun - time flew by and felt great! Only downside was the kick set - felt like I was going noware - anybody any tips for KS?

Get some fins (like these http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/23059.htm),not the short ones (like zoomers).

Well, gang, I had to make a tough training decision in the last two days.  I don't know if it was the weather change between TX and PA, or the frequency or what.  I have stayed home from work the last two days, very unusual for me.  I have had a headache, problems breathing, and a few chills.  I opted not to continue my training streak while being under the weather because I was concerned it might mess something up for my race next weekend.

So, unless all of you miss two days of training this month (not likely), I am out of the running for the tin foil medal after 16 straight days Cry

So, when I feel like resuming, which should be tomorrow, specifically what should I do between now and race day?
