Congratulations! You have now completed the first step of the registration process for the Race Ready Package – 2014 IRONMAN Wisconsin/ IRONMAN 70.3 Racine. You have paid and reserved a spot for both events.

Yay! I just signed up for an Ironman! . . . uh oh . . . I just signed up for an Ironman . . .

I'm going to go ahead and coin the term Irondread - that feeling when you realize you won't be seeing the south side of 11:00pm for the next year.

Awesome!!!
Rad! All or nothing!

Happy Weekend to you all!

I'm getting ready to leave for my race tomorrow. I'm gonna stay at a friends house so the drive up to maine is not quite so long on Saturday morning. I'm excited to be participating (racing isn't the right word since I really haven't been training specifically for this race) - races are a lot of fun.

Anyone else doing anything fun this weekend?

Good hunting, my friend.

I'm headed to Wisconsin tonight, to volunteer at IMWI on Sunday.

Good on you Amigo? How did the volunteering go?

OK - Here is my race report. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/RaceLog/races-view-container.asp?...

The short version - I twisted my rederailer so badly coming out of T1 that I couldn't move my pedal an inch. It was totally locked up. I was DQed (first time I haven't "finished" a race) but I salvaged the day by running a sub 30 minute 5K. Better to deal with the bad Karma now than during next year's IMMT.

As always - and I mean this - thanks for all of your support. I make a point of posting to facebook prior to my races to thank those who have supported me. Other than my wife - no one supports me more than you guys do. You are great and I am seriously grateful to you for your support.

Soooo last Saturday I did a local sprint tri. I was really nervous because I hadn't trained for two months. I ran three times prior to the race and suffered the sciatic pain something awful after my 3 mile run/walk. My leg hurt so bad the day before that I could not even sit at work I had to stand. Husband asked, as I was wiping the dust off my bike, if I should do this race since I was ill prepared, injured and would be taking a risk of further injury. This was something that needed to be done. I needed to know my true grt, that I had not been beaten by injury, and to not let fear stop me. Despite wanting to take the path of least resistance I assured him i would stop if the pain was "wrong" and would call him. So the goal was just to finish, no expectations, and race with a pleasant face blah blah blah.

Happy to report, though I had some pain I had no major issues during the race. Took a little time to stretch in T2, I had to keep my bike in an easy spin gear because pushing did cause pain in my glute/sciatic spot. I of course had noooo endurance on the run and walked a lot! I did not find out my time because I had to head to Lake Tahoe for a retreat for our U of Nevada ambassadors. The cold water of the Lake felt amazing on my legs by the way. Before heading to the Lake I stuck around long enough to hear the places for my age group. I did not place but I hadn't really expected to. I was disappointed because the third place winner in my age group finished with a time that was 13 minutes longer than my time from last year. Damn! I really added over 13 mins to my time?

Well it took me a week to get the courage to look at my exact time. Come to find out I took 2nd in my age group. i actually did all the events faster but because I took the time to stretch my T2 was longer! Yeah! I only added 4 mins to my time from last year! I feel so much better!

Oh and sorry i haven't been logging or on here...Students moved into the dorm last week and i had parents at my desk crying, on the phone yelling and everything in between! I am fried and fried. Also, I found a running group in my town Whooo hoo! Sciatic pain is still there I am just building slowly...but not as slowly as i thought.

Two words: Bad A$$!

Proud of you for even stepping on the starting line of the race, then having the grit and guts to go through and finish. You should be proud of yourself.

As someone who's been in many positions where people whine and cry and yell at me, You have way more patience than I do.

What's next? any racing/training left for the year, or do you just go to maintenance, or do you take time off hoping for healing with you nerve?

I have an OLY in three weeks...ran almost 10 miles the other day .....well honestly ran 6 walked 4....and I am training with a group on Tue & Thur doing running and core work...kicks my butt each time! So glad to "see" you again on here.

Hi Cynthia,

Glad you're running again, good luck with TRIrock I'm only doing the sprint.

Octavio

I am getting a little nervous and excited at the same time....I guess the work would be anxious!

Abita Restoration Ale. Regional. Pretty sure you can't get it in the Northeast. It's a LA brewery.

I was scheduled to bike for 40 minutes today - but with my bike in the shop I had to get creative. So I borrowed a friend's ancient mountain bike. Those fat tires and heavy steel frame made for quite the workout - haha.

Best part was the return of the "Must make it happen" attitude. Last year - I was maniacal about getting my workouts in and I've not been as good about finding ways to make it happened this year. But it was good to see my brain put a quick end to my thoughts of blowing off my workout doe to my broken bike with a quick $crew that... I rewarded myself with a few tasty beverages with the hopes of making it a habit!

Have a great week everyone!

Happy Monday everyone! I made the most out of my sabbatical this morning by ignoring the dishes in the sink and instead went out for a run. What an absolutely beautiful day and to have the time to do it in the middle of a monday morning was a gift. I feel like I am finally making some strides. The running is becoming easier (I'm doing 4 minutes of jogging and 2 minutes of running) and my knee doesn't hurt as much. So, I got that going for me - which is nice!

Id like to take some time this week to explore a topic of y'alls choosing. We can explore any topic - maybe its transitions, or goal setting, or nutrition, or hydration, or stretching. Its really up to you. What do you want the topic to be?

Have a great day and week.

Alex - Take it easy and taper like I should for weekend race.  Get in a few yards at the beach to ease the mind.

Great news about the knee on the run.  Keep up that rehab routine and the dynamic stretching.

Goal setting has been a weakness of mine this year. This week was the first goals set this year that have been met. No COORS for me! hoping to ride that wave next week. One week at a time. If I fall down, I need to pick my a_ _ back up.

I've always been goal orientated in training. This year is the first year that I've consistently failed to meet the challenge of achieving those goals. Maybe thinking my heart wasn't in it and commitment level was low when those goals were set.

Glad to hear your hitting mid stride on your sabbatical. I just finished first week with kids last week and went back to work today. Definitely a Monday!

Great work! Knowing thy body and doing what it tells you to do is a tough one.

I had a pretty good weekend of training with 6 mile run and 40 mile ride (forgot to turn on my watch until 5 miles in...early mornings). My tri buddy pushed the pace on the bike.

I am still finding it tough to get into things. My Oly is about a month away and HIM maybe 7 weeks. Hopefully I will find the love soon. Hamstring/glutes still telling me I am old. Foam rolling like a BOSS. Who knows.

Great job with all the work you guys are doing! You are motivating. That is what I need. Unfortunately I am training for a race, slightly injured, that I don't really want to do. But I want to support my tri buddy who has supported me and not be a Nancy.
