Thank for all the well wishes. The pulmonologist says that the airway inflammation just got out of control the last few weeks, and the fact that my boy wasn't on any of his preventive meds for the fall yet didn't help. Oh, and we took too long getting in to the doc for the first round of steroids. (oops). His pulmonary function testing looks good, he does have some residual small airway constriction that is alleviated by albuterol dosing. So, we are staying the course, two preventive meds, a pre-prescribed steroid for early dosing if he starts to flare, plus breakthrough albuterol, and trying to convince this headstrong 7 year old that he needs to keep using his inhaler before recess, even if he feels ok. The turkey.

I have no idea where he gets his stubbornness.

Stacie, have you ever bought socks from "SockGuy?"  I have some cool "Bad Kitty" and "Pirate skull & crossbone" socks.  I always feel like a BadA$$ when I wear them.

www.sockguy.com

They are great cycling socks!  I have a couple pair and they last!

what's on the side of your socks?  (or is that on the top??  im not sure when it comes to socks??)

i usually wear smart wool to run/ride in.  they keep my feet cool when its hot and hot when its cold.

isnt that just MAGICAL??

how do they do that?

just the plainjane ones, black.

stacieb

I really like my Bad Kitty socks.  Cat Face with cross bones and Bad Kitty written on the sole.  Plus they are pink, so they are "girly bad."  When I'm biking I like to wear the ones that say BikerChick with a picture of a yellow chick.

BTW, love smart wool socks as well!  Wear them year round.

AWWW YEAH.  cats.  chicks.  pink rules!

We are selling it tomorrow in a yard sale for only $1500....it is carbon fiber bike and design profile aerobars...the only thing you would need is a pair of pedals! the guy who rode it was very small! it is a small frame!

iowagander - 2009-10-14 10:41 PM I finally bit the bullet and signed up for the Carlsbad Half Marathon on Jan 24th! I'm very excited because this has been a goal of mine for a while now, but I'm nervous because my longest recorded run so far is about 6.5 miles. At least this will give me a good excuse to KEEP TRAINING over the holidays. I'm still eating copious amounts of candied yams at Thanksgiving though. Avoiding those would be sacrilege.

you will do fine!!!! I promise you! Dont know the course and if it is hilly or not...but just keep doing what your doing....did you start the Hal Higden HM plan? let me know if you need a link! I find he really helped me to get ready. You are soooo gonna be ready by the end of January! CONGRATS FOR SIGNING UP!!!!

The course isn't hilly. Just a couple of small ones, no higher than 75'. The HH plan starts on Nov 2, but I'm using the first couple weeks of it as a framework to finish out October. I've got a 5k next week, which will hopefully give me a good idea of my base speed going in. Thanks as always for the encouragement!

Good evening GHOULIES!!!!

I'm taking a few HTFU points for myself today.

39 degrees, windy, and raining and I got 3 miles in.

I actually ran about a minute per mile faster than I typically do, too.

I'm not sure if that's because A) all the hard work is paying off B) I knew I had to be home by a certain time to get the kiddos off the bus C) It was cold out and I just wanted to get my run complete as quickly as I could D) a combination of all of the above

Kids are now home with snacks in hand, so I'm off to a hot bath with a mug of hot chocolate to try and warm back up.

Keep it up GHOULIES!!!
