My goal was sub 30, my time was 31:05. I'm a little disappointed but not a whole lot. Running on a cross country course is not something I've done before. It was wet grass and a lot of mud, not to mention not very even. There were parts where everyone was zigzagging around large mud pits. So these slowed me down some. My first mile was great for me, 8:19, it went down hill from there. I also have orthotics in my shoes, with all the wet and uneven my feet were slopping around in my shoes a lot. I used Body Glide before hand, but I've got 5 new blisters on my feet. The blisters on my arches were killing me the last mile. I kicked off my shoes where my DH and DD were standing, about 1K from the finish. I ran sooooo much better without my feet killing me. My DS was waiting for me at the finish line. Maybe I should have kicked my shoes off sooner because I was definitely when my feet stopped hurting so much with every step. While I missed my goal, I learned a lot, and I know the next time will be better. Have a great day Ghoulies!!! Great job Ann! Sounds like it was a sloppy fun mess ![]() Congrats! Now get those blisters healed. Ouch! Thanks Neal. I know I could have run better on a course with less obstacles so I won't let my time bother me too much. |

Sadly, I have used them on many occasions. One other thought, try smart wool socks. I've found they are less likeley to cause blisters, even when wet. Thanks Kim. I'll be out tonight so I'll be on the lookout for smart wool. I have to find something that works, I constantly have blisters and it gets quite frustrating. I know the ones on the bottoms of my feet are caused by the orthotics but I can't run without them. The grass was wet and soft so it actually felt good on my sore feet after I kicked off my shoes. |

Sorry to hear your weekend is looking a little grim Amy. I hope you can find something to help you pass the time and enjoy yourself when you're not stuck at work. Thanks, Tom. If all goes well, I'll be here off/on on east coast time and late late west coast time. Run an extra mile or two for me--it's supposed to snow here tomorrow, so I don't htink I'll be able to fit in everything else and still have time to run and shower before work. Thanks in advance! No big plans here. I have runs tomorrow and Sunday, and I have an ST session I need to make up. I think I'll do that tomorrow. I'm sure I'll be trolling around here quite a bit too while I'm folding laundry ![]() I'll do that! I have 9 planned for the weekend, so I'll make sure it comes out to AT LEAST 10. Running on a cross country course that's wet is NO fun in my opinion and I'm sure the course conditions added that extra 1:05 and then some. Next time you run a 5k you'll get to your goal, no sweat! |

And I don't own an iron. If it isn't wash and wear, then it goes to the dry cleaners. Funny - I'm the ironing person at our house. It's probably because most of my wife's stuff is wash and wear and I have all those uniforms that need to be pressed. Now I just iron everything that needs it, and she's quite happy about that ![]() |

I have orthodics too and don't have issues with blisters. Wonder if your orthodics are fitting your shoes correctly. My orthotics are high in the arches, and that's where I get the most rubbing. With the uneven course today my feet were doing a lot of side to side as well as the forward motion. I think that's what caused the most problems. I do not like wearing them and if going without them in my shoes didn't cause back problems I wouldn't. I have had nothing but blister problems since I got them. They are custom made ones, and the surface is slick, but there is no give to them at all. I preferred the cheaper softer ones I'd get at the store, but my PT highly recommended these for the problems I was having. She was convinced I would have less problems with more rigid orthotics in my shoes. I have traded comfort for blisters. ![]() |

I jogged 3.5 miles with an average pace of 12:40 per mile!! For me that is amazing! I wanted to be able to maintain no more than 13 min miles. I have my first 5k in just under two weeks, so I am not going to push for another goal... just try to solidify this pace... Whee hee!! |

I had mine made to deal with plantar fasciitis. They are made from cork, very stiff and caused blisters in the arches at first. I went back to the orthotist and he was able to adjust them. It can take a couple tweaks to get them right. I love them now and wear them all the time, not just running. (gave up on heels for work, sigh) |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today's workout went from "hey, this is going great!" to "crap, another one of these days..." The 3 mile pace run went really well, clocking in at well below my goal race-pace. One good thing was a new little mind-trick I tried on the hills, keeping my eyes glued to the ground about 30 feet or so in front of me. Maybe it was just a mind trick, but it seemed to help me keep my pace steady through the hills. Then came the fun... On the last stretch coming home, I realized that I need to plan my meals a little better. I.e. no cereal with milk before running. Yuck... Then during my cooldown walk my iPod started skipping even though there's plenty of battery left. I'm hoping it was just the heat but I've got my eye on it. Then I came inside for my ST session. It was going really good and I even got my daughter to do some push ups with me, but when she went for a potty break the toilet overflowed causing me to switch from leg lifts to towel-mopping and plunging. Grr... I have a 6 mile LSR on the schedule tomorrow, so I'm determined to have a better day with that. There's a nice 6 mile loop here with some good street-side trails, hill-top views, and only a few crappy intersections. I hope everyone's having a nice weekend so far! |
