carrie639 - 2011-02-24 7:02 PM I know there isn't a person out there that wouldn't think I am nuts, but I signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon (yes, it is about 20 days after the Chicago marathon).  I couldn't resist and I don't care if I have to do a walk/run (or even walk most of it) method I just couldn't pass that up.  I mean, what could be more awesome that your own military serving you while you run (I want to thank every one of them for their service) and also having the opportunity to run by everything in DC.

Totally excited!!!! (AND IT IS SOLD OUT)

AWesome! The Marine Corps Marathon should be great.

jarvy01 - 2011-02-24 7:27 AM Easy run this morning + long swim tonight

Started Hal Higdon's beginner HM plan this week.  I originally was going to try the intermediate, but I had to back down.  It starts off slowly, so I should be good with this one.

I'm visiting my family out of town this weekend, so I won't be online at all.  Have a great weekend!

I've used Higdon's plans for my last two marathons and for the current one I'm training for.  They work well and that should have you prepared just fine.

Which HM are you doing?

I'm doing the Cleveland HM.  Which one are you doing?

I'm doing the Long Island Marathon - 5500 runners start the race.  halfway through, 5000 people split off and finish the half marathon and 500 lonely runners do 11 miles on the Wantagh Expressway, a highway.  And there are almost fans to cheer you on.  Its a weird race, but its easy to get in and local.  NYC Marathon is too tough to get into nowadays.

carrie639 - 2011-02-24 2:07 PM Can you tell me how you got all 4 data points on the same screen at the same font size?  I have the 4 data points on the main screen but the HR is super tiny up in the corner.  Please spell is out like I am a child, I am a dork with this stuff.

Thanks

It'll have to wait to the weekend - pm me to remind me.

You know how I feel about training and racing, but with this one, a consult with the wife may be in order.  If she lets you go on Mother's Day, you may owe her two days.

skip the race.  dont ask.  you will just get in trouble.  find another race.

kaburns1214 - 2011-02-24 3:28 PM So, thinking about races for 2012 (and beyond) what are everyone's dream races (tri-running-biking-whatever) to participate in?

Mine in Kona 2012 (IMTX will be my KQ attempt).

Tris: Escape from Alcatraz, IM New Zealand, Xterra in some tropical locale.

I actually have no interest in Kona.  not that i could ever get there other than by paying a lot of money or winning a lottery.

There's a really nice XTERRA in Hanover, NH , does Dartmouth qualify as a tropical local?

On the schedule today -- recovery ride and recovery run.  Its cold and pouring outside now so I'll head to the gym to run this morning and then bike tonight.

Tomorrow is a rest day and then the Hyannis Half on Sunday.  Weather = snow showers (fantastic)!

Looks like I'm not traveling today.  We have a foot of snow coming & blowing winds.   Not really worth putting the kids' lives at risk.....

Trying to get 1.5 hour bike ride in with all the kids running around......we'll see!

***edited to add that I am taking the TI swim workshop in April.  It's here in Cleveland.  I'll also get a video of before / after instruction.  I am so excited!!!!!

Here is a newbie tri question for the ladies - Looking at the tri shirts that were posted  two days ago - are they worn for the swim without having to change for the bike? If so, what is worn on the bottom? I know....silly question!!!LOL

RockTractor - 2011-02-24 12:40 PM Made my workout last night - but just barely. After my running intervals I jumped in the pool for a quick 2000 yds. I was fighting some serious calf cramps in both legs starting at about 600 yds. I hate those! Tonight I will probably jump on the trainer for 45 minutes (I got a new Spinervals DVD... "Suffer-O-Rama"), then a nice leisurely run in the 3 to 4 mile range with my wife (her recovery run), and finally some sand volleyball.

I love the Suffer-O-Rama DVD, it's like 54 minutes with fast intervals!!

Tri top on top and tri shorts on the bottom.  You put your wetsuit on over both (or can swim in them without a wetsuit) and then pull off your wetsuit and jump right on the bike.

Good luck with the bike ride - I hate training with my 4 around - there is always some crisis that makes me have to stop !

Not going to get much training in today. I have to head over the mountain to SL to cover the state girls basketball tourney. There is a blizzard here so might be dicey on the drive. Was going up a bit later, but I need to give myself plenty of time to get over there with this snow.

Very quickly.  They're made from fabrics designed to dry quickly (and even if you wear a wetusit your tri clothes still get wet).  The worst thing to do is to wear a normal sport bra for the swim and then try to put a shirt on in T1 -- the normal sports bra doesn't dry well at all and trying to put a shirt on wet body is close to impossible.

Go to the Total Immersion website and look under workshops.  They seem to be all over the place.

Yes, there is always some crisis with the 4 running around.  I had to get off my bike twice this morning to micromanage the chaos.  After I finished the bike, I found that they had helped themselves to popsicles, and there were wrappers all over the kitchen floor.  Nice.  LOL

Cross your fingers everyone that the weather holds out and I can run outside tomorrow!!!

Also, now that I am doing my 2nd 1/2 mary I am learning alot more.  I eat a protein bar or shake after every workout and work more on getting more protein in my diet.

Question:  So last week I ran 8 miles outside (first run outside since Nov) and I was pretty sore for a few days afterward (glutes, shins, quads, hams).  Is it just that it is my first run outside causing the soreness?  Starting to do longer distances and my body getting used to it?  Or am I not doing the right nutrition afterward?  Is there anything else I need to do other than get protein in right away afterward?

They should learn:  If they would have tossed the wrappers and sticks you wouldn't have had a clue until shopping day.  Then you would probably have blamed Mr. Jarvy.  Of course there is always that ear-to-ear popsicle stain that might give it away too, but that's what the dog is for.

BTW, this is why kids love Uncle Bruce and moms don't.
