Just not so tight that you can see the outline of your twig and berries. One of the photos from my first race isn't so modest. Was like "Well we aren't sending that one out to Mom and Dad." I think we need to see that picture.
Man i hate to say it, but if Kelly can chick up and post pics of her in saran wrap, turnabout is fair play. Fortunately i am Irish/German, there is nothing to see, even without the cold water.... |

Master 2538 Albuquerque | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Dang I missed a lot today! LOL!
So, we went and did the OWS this afternoon despite the smoke. The thought was it's not in the river valley that WE are in, so maybe it will be better there, and it was. At the lake, it was actually ok. You could still see the haze all around, but the lake itself was fine. I'm glad I went, as I learned two very important things for my first OWS. 1: I got dizzy/slightly motion sick, so next time I'm trying ear plugs. 2: I can't sight to save my life! Stevie Wonder would have better luck in a lake than I did today! But, I had fun, drove the boat so Jay could swim in my place when I DNF'd my swim, and enjoyed the afternoon with my friends. Jay is an incredible swimmer, btw, so much smoother and much much faster than most I've seen. He's effortless. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED It is not totally abnormal to get dizzy when swimming, especially after some time off. The constant swinging of your head to breathe can cause that, and if indoors doing flip turns. Keep at it, it will go away. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED I'm finally back from my parents' house. I got in some good training there. They live out in the country, so I was able to bike without lights and traffic. It's pretty hilly terrain around there, and I feel like the whole experience was humbling. Force has to be a limiter for me, because I really struggle to maintain speed uphill. I am a complete newbie to the sport of cycling, so I'm assuming that muscles specific to hills will develop over time. My husband told me that I'm slow and I need to pick it up. LOL Sure, I'll work on that while you drink your beer on the sidelines. Oh, yeah, I swallowed some sweet bugs on my rides, too. EEEEEW. I have a babysitter coming today, so I can do some training and some cleaning. I'm going to take my bike down to the Towpath and see how it goes. My first tri is this weekend in Columbus, and my in-laws are watching my kids at my house for 2 days, so I have to get things organized for them. Have I mentioned I am a slob? Um, must clean my frat bathroom so my mother-in-law doesn't judge me more than she already does. Jeff (rizer) - Desoto runs small for me. Perhaps women's sizes are different though. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED I am back from my family reunion. Two days of flying Utah to AZ to Minn. How it is cheaper to be routed all over the country to get somewhere is beyond me. Was going to ride my mom's bike (acutally a fairly decent one) while I was there, but left my bike and running shorts sitting on the bed drying so did not have anything to use. Swam in the hotel pool (6 strokes across-Ha) and then resorted to pool running. Walked a five mile loop while there. Other than than-bad training weekend. Got home and needed to get shots for upcoming trip to Vietnam. Was told typhoid one would make me sick so I will see, but I hope not. Time to get rolling I have put all the weight back on and not happy. Very interesting discussions here while I was gone though-entertained me immensly |

Right calf still a little sore from Sundays race, ran last night and the legs were dead for the first 2 miles, then woke up a bit, by mile 3 i had to go #2 and rushed home and ran upstairs, almost did not make it, lol!!!! |

Interesting...I guess just more experimenting is in order. It could be that I haven't swam in a few weeks. Or I was breathing every stroke and I normally breath bilaterally in the pool. Maybe I just did it to myself. Man the skies are brown from the pics I saw Jay took. Our skies are almost always so blue, this was odd. |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Figured I better start practicing transition. Got a 21 mile ride in this morning starting at 5:10 am. So nice out that time of day, especially the ride by the lake at mile 12. Made sure to put my shoes on patio so when I return I can get shoes on and run. Transition went quick (I think) and did a 1.5 mile T run. My legs felt super light, but didn't have any cramping etc. I looked at my Garmin nd I was running a 6:25 pace. WTH!!!!! Immediately slowed done, but overall, it felt really good. Will continue to do that! |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Even just a week or 2 off can cause the dizziness. Swim more . . . I also tend to get headaches from the cap and water pressure if I take time off. Question: I can do flip turns, but generally choose not to (I cramp from constant push offs, and get water in my nose). I breathe all the way through the turn but I still manage to get water up my nose. Any thoughts?? Is this another practice issue? I also feel like my flips are so slow I am much faster grabbing the wall to turn and push off. Practice??? |

New Haven, CT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Morning all. Some great "recovery nutrition" last night while watching the NBA Finals: 4 good beers and about 2 dozen buffalo wings, good source of protein and easy to digest carbs. 30 minutes on the trainer nice and easy this morning, legs are coming back. Going to the Yankee Red Sox game tonight! Go yankees! |

I don't give my wife the chance to complain, all my workouts for the most part are before she and the kids wake. Although, my volume is not what some of you do either. The good news, I just bought the wife a Specialized Dolce Elite. She won't be doing any Tri's anytime soon, just some casual rides. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED OMG, I don't think I am close to that. I think I flip in a cork-screw fashion and am already twisted while I am pushing off . . . maybe that accounts for knee pain sometimes. This also accounts for why I haven't a clue how to do a backstroke turn!!! I will have to test this. thanks |

Communicate with her, there is something else bugging her more than likely. Do not feel alone on this, we all get it from time to time, find the real root of the problem and nip it in the bud, seriously. I just got the "you are crit racing again wednesday night??" dealio this week, my response was, we agreed when the season started that i would get 1, yes 1, night a week where we did not have to be home after work to do family stuff, Wednesday is my night, whether i chose to race or rec ride with friends. That was our agreement, she usually does girl stuff on Thursday's, and when she asks, i never say no, usually offer to leave a wee bit early and get the baby from daycare so she can just work and go out with the girls without going home. What the root of the issue was, as i found out last night, she wants to go on vacation, that was last nights conversation, and probably the reason about the wednesday issue, it always comes out in the end if you communicate. I told her we can go where ever we can afford to go with the baby, and that seemed to suffice. |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED I'm pretty sure it revolves around "change" and uncertainty. She doesn't do well with either. Over the past year I've changed my focus on a lot of things and want to switch to a job, personal training, that is much more like sales and has a less of a stable income feel. She has mentioned under her breath that she feels one of us has changed and the other hasn't. I've found a passion that affords me "me time" away from the kids. She doesn't have that. I get it. Getting her to talk about her feelings is almost as much work as working through the issues though. Sucks. |
