Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() nc452010 - 2010-06-03 5:16 PM Wish me luck. My 1st race EVER is Saturday. I'm most scared (scared of ALL of it, actually) of the swim leg. But, I put down 2:00/100 as my swim time...and I know I can hold that, even if I have to resort to side-stroke. I timed it again, today.....and did 100 crawl/200side....just to make sure. 6:08 I just wanna survive. I'm gonna go to my LBS, tomorrow, and change a few tubes....just to learn how (well). If I flat (never have), I still wanna finish. Did my last workout before the race, a little while ago. Oddly enough, there's a transitions clinic at the LRS, tonight. I'm heading there in a few. Probably won't be on the aero bars much....but I am going to ride my new tri bike. I like it...and I ride it as well as my roadie. If/when they pass me....I'll cheer 'em on. I'll give a full report on Sunday. Nerve level is pretty high, currently. jeff Wooohooo! Go get 'em! You will be so relieved when you finish the swim you will be able to rock the rest of it! Then you can focus on passing everyone! Good luck, you will do great! |

I think I'm a pretty realistic goal setter...and always set goals that are fairly high...yet achievable. In the races where I had the highest nerves...I killed my goals...going way faster than I ever imagined I could. In the races where I thought I had it in the bag...and wasn't nervous...I had a much harder time making my goals. Nerves are what makes racing fun. Enjoy the experience and have fun! Really looking forward to reading the RR on Sunday. =) |

![]() Got my first power tap ride in. Did my normal after work ride out on a 2 mile out and back https://www.trainingpeaks.com/sw/N4JIRBWFGFMFYQ6REY2OIVUXG4 <-----if your curious I just tried to keep it steady...a little over 200w going into the wind, and about 150ish going downwind. Ended up averaging about 183w for 31 miles. I was shocked at how sensitive the PT is. Even the slightest effort spikes up your power 50 watts. I have my computer set to display the 3 second moving average...but still. I noticed as I passed other cyclists...without even trying, my power cranked up 75 watts. I suppose it's the little umph you give without even knowing it. I'll try and do an FTP test sometime next week. Fun stuff though. Garmin connect is awesome. While they don't have a lot of power analysis...they do have a little movie thing you can play that shows your progression along the map and how your speed/cadence/power/hr/elevation changes as you go along. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So, as we have been speaking of weight loss - I thought I would share mine. I hit my weight loss goal today that I have been trying for for many many years! It only figures that I go on vacation tomorrow! Oh well, I know I can do it now - and have a new goal to lose another 5 pounds. But first I will have to drop all the vacation poundage! Jackie - good luck on your journey - you got it, no problem!!!!!! |

![]() I'll be happy to answer any questions...I've only done one stand alone TT...so not sure how much help that would be. I also have it up in my race reports. My race may be a bit different than yours. I gave more effort during the first half of the race because it was into a strong wind (as David suggested). I still managed to negative split by a large margin...but not because I had lots of energy left...the tail wind was pushing me in. I think a race that has very little wind should be strategized much differently...where you don't go out to hard, then hammer on the way back till you got nothing left. The one thing I did notice is that it's a lonely ride. With the 30 second start intervals, you're not likely to pass very many people, or get passed if you're a MOPer (in TT's) like me. In tris, I'm a MOP/BOP swimmer and a FOP biker, so it's very uplifting to pass a lot of people that dusted me in the swim. In my TT, I finished like 73/135 or something...and I only passed about 6 people, and 2 people passed me. The last 12 miles of the ride, there was nobody else in sight. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just got back from a very nice brick. I rode 24mile with 4x4' @ FTP in the middle. Av watts for entire ride was 143. The last interval felt the best because my legs were dying and I didn't have to worry about burning out. I ran the 3mile run surprisingly fast. I had no intentions of running hard but my legs felt like cranking out 8m/m so I went with it. Now time to recover. Tomorrow I'm thinking of doing a 2hr ride with 1hr @ tempo. I'd still like some time to recover this week from the FTP test and I don't want to jeopardize my 11mile run on Sunday. Next week will be another large volume week with lots of intensity! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() carl nice job on the brick, and having those numbers is a great tool to have around. Hopefully will be back training with power shortly, pretty scared to see how far the FTP has dropped down from last year:-( I have a feeling right now if i can crack 260 i'd be thrilled. As for the TTs, ask any and all questions, i have done a fair amount of them. |

![]() wow...red rock is no joke. I went to vegas for vacation last year during my marathon training. I was looking for routes to run around vegas and came upon a route around red rock. I think it was a 10 mile loop or something with insane elevation changes. That convinced me to enjoy my vacation, leave my running shoes at home, and workout at the bar. |

We rode from the enterance of Red Rock, around the loop and back. For parts of the climb, I was in my lowest gear and could only go 4-5 mph. My legs were dying, but I just kept moving. I never ran there, but I imagine that would suck. Hope you had a good time in Vegas and enjoyed your workout at the bar (those workouts can hit you the hardest ![]() |
