Great quote!  Wish I had it yesterday when the wife and I were arguing about me working out too much and her never following through - haha

Mrschach - 2011-01-03 8:22 AM Just wanted to share a quote I read last night...

There is a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something you will do it only when circumstances permit. When you are committed to do something, you accept no excuses...only results."
~Kenneth Blanchard

So whatever you want to do this year...lose weight, save money, pay off debt, run a race, go on vacation, exercise, be happy, get a new job...whatever it is COMMIT!!!

I posted it on my Mom's group forum for the same reason.  I have to admit I am having a hard time being encouraging with some of these women because it is the same song and story all the time.  I am ready to tell them to stop complaining about not being healthy/active/skinny or whatever word you want to fill in.

I have a time trial at the end of this month (I think January 22) that Ryan and I signed up for kind of last minute!  30 minutes all out, teams of 8.  I'm just hoping to average 19+mph.  I averaged 19.3 in my last LT test on Jorge's plan, and I have another one next week, so that will tell me about where I'll be on the day.  That is, if I don't get a hilly course...

Then nothing 'til the half-marathon in May!

Hahahaha!!!  That may be the funniest thing I hear all day!  I hate the cold.  I hate everything about it.  Any restaurant management positions open down there in Texas for John.  I hibernate during the winter months and do as little as possible outside as I have to.

THIS is why the time trial is indoors!  No way I would have done a bike workout outside in this weather.

Although, while visiting my parents in Springfield, it got up to SIXTY DEGREES on my 8.8 mile run day.  Wow.  I was not expecting that on December 31!

But now it's back to cold and snowy, as is par for the Midwest.

P.S. - I QUIT MY JOB YESTERDAY! WOOHOO!  Now that the holidays are over, Ryan and I discussed it and realized that we'll be okay on just his income for the semester, since I will (hopefully) have an unpaid internship instead.  My boss wanted FOUR WEEKS' NOTICE though, so I'll still be working all month.  But the good news is, I will be done soon!  I cannot wait...

I have a half marathon on the schedule for February 13th and I start training for my full marathon(May1st) next week.  I was out running yesterday morning -7 celcius (19F), I was in the shower for an hour after warming up.  We've got snow scheduled for this afternoon and rain for the next 3 days...not the best of running conditions...ugh!

Ha, sometimes I forget about all the weather differences.  It is 55 here right now and supposed to be mid-60s all week.  Gets down to around 30 at night.  Brrrrr.   But I am a cold wuss, so anything under 50 gets down right chilly for me!  We just don't own a whole lot of cold weather gear.  We usually get a little dusting of snow every few years.

Meggan, we always have openings down here.  Texas has not been hit too hard with the recession so places are still opening and hiring.  The trade off is the 100 degree heat usually from May until the end of Sept.

That is good news about your job Erica and glad you can get away from that.  That was the boss you hated right?

Good luck with the marathon training Sandra!  You already do 10+ miles at times so I don't think it will be too hard for you.

6 degrees today!  Aren't you jealous, T1?  Ryan and I had to go out before it got too cold to buy me all sorts of running clothing because it's my first winter running outside.  It's not as awful as you think, though!

And yes, it is the awful boss that I will be getting away from!  Yayyyy!!!  No more being treated like a child!

My theory on running outside is that it is more mind over matter.  The first few times of the year it is hard but after that its all good.  Today is the first time this year I will be running at lunch during work outside and of course it is a snow storm today -haha

For clothing I always follow the rule "dress like it is 20 degrees warmer than it is".  That will prevent you from overdressing and overheating.  I usually underdress but last weekend it was FREEZING!!  I did 7 miles in 3 degree Real Feel with 45 MPH gusts and when I got back I was so cold that I hadn't even broken a sweat.  Training for this marathon will be interesting as I have always done Fall marathons and trained during summer months.  I am afraid that on my long runs of over 2 hours my water/gatorade will freeze haha.

Wow T2!  I can't believe that.  Another guy in my new mentor group runs in the cold and he said his gatorade froze at mile 8!  I give you all credit for running in the snow/cold/wind.  I dont' run outside unless it is 45 degrees or warmer!

Had the worst run ever yesterday.  Barely made a mile!  I thought I was going to die.  I was running a 13:30 min/mile which is slow for me and was huffing and puffing.  Dont' know if it is because I am still feeling bad or if I didn't have enough water or if it was the first morning I ran at 5 am in a long time.  Who knows.  Today is an off day and tomorrow is x-train and Sunday is a run, so hopefully by then I should be good!

Yeah, I am with you on the cold.  I am a wimp and will admit it.  I hate the cold.

Just chalk it up to a bad run and move on.  I would not try to figure out what went wrong.  We all have bad days for no reason!

It looks like my next marathon will be on May 15th in Delaware.  I really wanted to do one in NJ on the 1st but it won't work out with the kids.  That weekend is Penn Relays for high school and college track and field kids.  John runs a restaurant on UPenn's campus so he works crazy long hours that week.  The Relays are done on Saturday but he still works on Sunday that weekend because kids and families are still in town.

Now I just have to actually register.

And I just registered!!

14 days of work left...  is it acceptable to start sleeping at my desk yet?  I'm wayyyy too tired after my ride this morning, which I'm also frustrated about because I wasn't as fast as I wanted to be.  And Ryan and I are still sick.  So all around, a happy Monday, right?

Be positive though!  I'm going to see if the gym at school is open this week so I can start running 3x+/week and swimming 2x/week also.  I need to get swimming if I'm going to attempt 1.2 miles in July!

Anyone else having a hard time getting moving right now?  I think the weather is getting to me this year and it has not in the past.  I am at the point that I just hate winter and the cold.  I have always hated snow but I hate winter in general this year.  I am having a hard time getting up in the morning to run.  I think it is cold and dark and I just don't want to go to the basement where it is even colder.  Our basement is finished but we did not cut into the ductwork to put forced air.  It is pretty chilly down there at 4:30 in the morning.  As much as I don't want to be, I think I am back to running at night because of the cold.  I woke up at 4:30 this morning, got dressed, went to the basement, and went back upstairs and slept on the couch until Logan woke up.  It was just too cold.  At least in the evening, I can go down and turn the space heater on to warm it up some.

Yes, I know.  I am a wimp!!

I don't know how you do early mornings, I'm an early riser, but I can't get up and work out right away, I have to have a shower, eat breakfast, laze about a bit.  Add in the cold, fuhgetaboutit.  I don't blame you for wanting to stay in a nice cozy bed.

Have you thought about setting your alarm an hour earlier, running down to turn on the space heater and jumping back into bed for an hour, while it warms up?

Do any of your states require you to register your bike with them?  An assemblywoman has just proposed a bill in NJ that will require all bikes to be registered, pay an annual fee, and have a license plate.

I've tried too Sandra, and I just cannot do the early morning get up and workout thing.  If I am going to do a HIM this year (still hoping the knee will cooperate) then I am going to have to figure out a way to get it done.  Kudos for even getting up and getting dressed Meggan.  As long as you get the run in, then I see no problems with it.

And that bike registration thing seems to be gaining a lot of attention.  I hear it all the time now a days in the media and online...mostly from drivers (who don't bike) complaining about bikers on "their" roads.  I didn't know it had made it to the legislative stage yet.  Just another way to "raise taxes" during this economy.  I really dislike ignorant people.
