carrie639 - 2011-02-25 1:19 PM Cross your fingers everyone that the weather holds out and I can run outside tomorrow!!!

Also, now that I am doing my 2nd 1/2 mary I am learning alot more.  I eat a protein bar or shake after every workout and work more on getting more protein in my diet.

Question:  So last week I ran 8 miles outside (first run outside since Nov) and I was pretty sore for a few days afterward (glutes, shins, quads, hams).  Is it just that it is my first run outside causing the soreness?  Starting to do longer distances and my body getting used to it?  Or am I not doing the right nutrition afterward?  Is there anything else I need to do other than get protein in right away afterward?

Here's my post-long workout routine (I find that it helps me avoid catching "leg flu"):

Immeadiately post-work out - recovery drink
Lie down and put my legs up on the wall to let them "drain"
Warm Shower
Put on compression pants/sleeves (the compression help the blood in the legs circulate to speed up recovery)
Good meal with carbs, fat and protein
Ice my legs if necessary

What does a recovery drink do that protein will not?

I usually do protein right after and an ice bath (if a long run).

Recovery drink is just a drink with protein and carbs (you should be getting both post run, not just protein).  Generally you're looking for a 4:1 ration of carbs to protein.

For recovery I either eat oats with protein powder mixed in or I prebuzz some oats in a coffee grinder and then add them to the milk and protein.  Whole rolled oats are the cheapest form of quality carbs I've found.

Good morning everyone.

Rest day for me, which means I'll be a little stir crazy.  No rest days for all of March, so I guess I should take advantage of it.

What on tap for everyone else?

kaburns1214 - 2011-02-24 3:28 PM So, thinking about races for 2012 (and beyond) what are everyone's dream races (tri-running-biking-whatever) to participate in?

Mine in Kona 2012 (IMTX will be my KQ attempt).

Tris: Escape from Alcatraz, IM New Zealand, Xterra in some tropical locale.

I actually have no interest in Kona.  not that i could ever get there other than by paying a lot of money or winning a lottery.

There's a really nice XTERRA in Hanover, NH , does Dartmouth qualify as a tropical local?

if I lived in Greenland, perhaps.

So glad I hit the trainer yesterday before work...work was nuts so I was wiped out after and NO WAY would I have done squat.

Today, work early, taking my bag with me in case I can make it to the pool afterwards.

Shortened version of P90X this morning.  Just needed a quick strength workout, then took kids to swim class.  Need to get a run in this afternoon, and hopefully go pick up my new bike.  If I do, I'll post pics tonight.  If not, it'll be Monday.

Yes, It's white, with blue.  I KNOW, white is SLOW!!!  I wanted to beat all of you to that comment!!! Tongue out

Kelly, good luck in the race tomorrow!!  I think someone in this group is going with you, but forget who, so good luck to you both.

awesome afternoon with Rudy and Shaun building a bike, Rudy is pretty amazing and does not screw around regarding bikes or ribs.  the Jeffy-Y J1 (which is already the hotest thing in europe) need a few more parts and should be ready to roll shortly.  shaun develped a specialized internal hydrations system.

Still two full days left in February, but I've already surpassed January's totals for Biking and Swimming. I won't get a shot at beating Running due to the foot problem (but I was on a great pace to beat it).

I'm happy with February, considering it's a shorter month.

Looks like a cool ride. What's the pace like for a 56 mile ride with the group you are with?

Finally picked up my new road bike, and first ever road bike for me.  I am a mountain biker, but of course now have the Tri itch.  Bought it as a 2010 leftover, with a huge markdown on price.

Yes, it's white.  I know that means "slow" but I love white and blue. I won't be getting race wheels this year, the seat shouldn't be too high, I had it set up yesterday.  I am sure the angle of the picture is weird, and the cranks aren't lined up. But I think the stems are hidden!!!  I know I will be beaten to a pulp in the regular forums.  They find a way to point all these things out!!!  Too funny!!

I can finally take my mountain bike off the trainer!!!

Great looking bike! I'm in the process of hunting for a new roadie myself (wanting a carbon bike)...I'll have plenty of pics when I decide on one.
