Good analysis - I see a lot of flaws with this National team both tactically and technically - I truly believe that they should distance their competition easily but are held back by current coaching. I know results speak louder than substance sometimes so Sundhagen gets the accolades - however, I think the standard of the Womens national team has gone down over her reign.

The defending was awful in the final and tactically they are very predictable and slow. Even decisions out of the back are startlingly naive and when they have the lead they look uncertain and vulnerable due to their decisions.

Athletically and individually this team should be #1 every year by a large margin - if they could add the tactical and skill level of France/Japan, of which I think they are capable, then they would enjoy an easier time in games.

Japan should have won this game but the US deserved the World Cup on the balance of play - guess it all evens out in the end.

I will say for their current coach: I definitely see a better ground attack than the U.S. had in the past.  They handle the ball well and connect a lot more passes.  Maybe we're a bit nostalgic about the 1996 win.  But that was a long ball team and then they just wore everyone out with their high fitness level.

And it's easier to have a solid back 4 when you're playing longball.  The defenders rarely even get to midfield so they have a lot less ground to cover.

Yes it was a friendly.

Yes neither team had their A teams on the field.

Yes it really doesn't matter from a win/loss perspective.

But for the first time in 75 years, the US beat Mexico IN Azteca.  The fortress that we couldn't penetrate.  The big ole monkey on our backs is technically off.

I am a HAPPY man.

I missed the last 1/3 of the match because the wife was recording Bad Girls Club (I know...) and I was too lazy to get out of bed and watch it downstairs.

Excellent victory, no matter what the circumstances.

Yes.  It was ugly.

But to get the giant monkey off their back, no matter when or how, is HUGE.

BTW, good to see you.

USA- Mexico - best I can say it was a result and sometimes they go your way - as in this case, Mexico was by far the better team but lost...seen this script before...a lot!

EPL - Its back! - Crowny your irrational fans are already baying for Rodgers head!...tough start but you should have enough quality to survive relegation Laughing

Man City escape thanks to some atrocious defending from a professional!..how can you head a ball at the penalty spot at this level? Bloody awful...and a gift to Man City

Same old Arsenal - as an away team just park the bus and go home with a point from the emirates.

Also caught some of the Barca game...ouch...they looked impressive and it could have been 10-1..

Game on - all leagues are up and running so life is good!

From what I've read, it doesn't go live in the states for a few days still depending on if you have Dish, DirectTV or cable.

So Aston Villa put in a bid for Dempsey at 7M.  Fulham accepted but Dempsey rejected.  7M is less than the 8M that Fulham rejected from Liverpool.  WTF?!?!?!  And now, it is all over.  'Pool tried one last ditch effort by offering Jordan Henderson and that twat rejected it.

Two very unhappy people in our house today.

Hope you didnt watch...what a tepid effort from them. In contrast, watch the Mexico vs Costa Rica game and see how Mexico is better technically and play at a better tempo. I think the USMNT will qualify easily but it will be due to the CONCACAF region not their ability at this point.

I didn't watch it.  And from what I read I'm glad I didn't.  Sounds as if it was beyond pathetic.

Cried a lot yesterday - reliving that day and the tragic events.  It was a very sad day in English sport.  Shameful that it's taken 23 years and so much campaigning by grieving relatives to finally get the truth told.

The biggest tragedy is that 41 of the 96 could have lived.  Changed the face of football forever.

RIP Hillsborough 96 - You'll never walk alone.

I was in Merseyside (Moreton to be precise) the summer after it happened.  Mates in the neighborhood weren't there, but they know someone what was.  Seemed like everyone knew at least one person there.  Knock on wood nobody I knew, knew of anyone of the 96.

Finally the truth has been revealed and it has made public what many have known for years.  It is incredibly sad the lifes that were affected during and after that tragedy.  96 lost their life that day, but many, many more lost theirs afterwards as the result of that day.

Today i watched again the clips of the minute of silence during the game of Inter and Real M.  in remambrace of the victims shortly after the incident and i got emotional seeing the crowd perform You'll Never Walk Alone as a tribute.

Bringing this back to page 1.

Crowny, what do you think of what's happening on the field and in the management of the 'pool these days.

Personally I think a second tier manager, with a team mostly comprised of players who are either too young or simply not good enough, in some cases both is leading us to where we are.  The lack of striking ability is clear, but there's so much more that needs to be addressed in the squad and the management.

We're 17th, and only managed to avoid the worst campaign start since 1903 with a draw against Sunderland!

We're also bottom of the fair play table with the worst on field discipline record this season!

I'm not sure where the heart and passion the team's of Liverpool's past has gone, but I don't see it!

So did you Pool fans catch the Fox Premier or Being: Liverpool?

It was pretty interesting - Gerrards White grand piano, Brendon Rodgers self portrait in his glass mansion...was more like Scarface than the Premier league....

And NO subtitles - there is no way anyone in America understood a word Carragher said!

Good to see the South Americans bonding

The behind the scenes are going to be great..

Facilities they have are incredible...

A few things.

1. I'm not too worried about our placement right now, but the longer we stay low, the harder it will be to fight for the top 4 spots.  Hell, last year (or was it the year before) we were in the relegation zone around this point, so no, I'm not too worried.  Ask me again in a month and that might change.

2. The discipline DOES have me worried.  NOT that I care too much about the Fair Play table, but to me, problems with penalties means there are other discipline problems that are not too far away, both on and off the pitch and I do NOT want a repeat of last year's Suarez debacle.

3. Finally, the quality of play, as a whole, is shaping towards what BR wants.  Passing and lots of it.  Problem is, we can have all the possession in the world and all the shots and shots on goal, but if we don't get it in the back of the net, it will all be for naught.  And THAT is my biggest worry.  Outside of Suarez, we really don't have someone that has a nose for the back of the net.  That being said, I'm pretty happy with Sahid.  That young man has shown some promise.

Hell yeah I caught it.  On Fox.  Right after the NFL game.

LOL!  Love the no subtitles dig.  I had no problem understanding any of them.  Least of which Stevie or Jamie.

I'm torn.  Part of me is just fascinated at the behinds the scene's aspect of it all.  Seeing the inner workings of it all.  But with everything that has happened (read King Kenny to Brendan Rogers and the Dempsey debacle) I'm also scared crapless that this will disenfranchise fans when they see the bad things that happened.

I will absolute be watching every single episode, though.  It really is good TV.
