That's funny!  I was gonna give some props to Betsy too ~ tough gal wanting to mix it up on that swim...lol!  Been hangin' around Eric too long!

I don't know if I wil do that race again.  Looking at last years pics, the water was calm... too unpredictable.  We will see!  I'll keep it in mind!

Betsy0706 - 2009-04-29 4:22 PM Damn impressive swim man! I'll do that race with you next year, I've always wanted to do one with a rough swim

Tri_n_2_b_fast - 2009-04-29 3:35 PM I don't need to salt any food for a week!   Several... every time I tried to breath I got a healthy taste!  I figured out how to breath on top of the rollers, but I found my self smacking the water coming down... I hope IMFL is a little easier than this was... but if not, at least I know I can get through it!  I don't have to like it, I just have to do it!

KelliD - 2009-04-29 3:29 PM
Tri_n_2_b_fast - 2009-04-29 4:18 PM Some pics of the swim in Corpus Christi.  When you are swimming, the waves and rollers look so much bigger at eye level!  Sighting was very tough!  And only 3 kayaks in support of the course.  With several "groups" of swimmers swimming off course.

WOW!!  That just looks scary!  I did one ocean swim last summer, and still on the fence whether I'm ready for another one or not.  How many mouth/face-fuls of water did you get?

If it's okay with everyone, because of the industry I work in, I would rather not post my last name on here.    Todd, if you can't find me thru one of these guys, just let me know.

So, end of the month self-evaluation time?

Anyone else want to do this?

For me, I was overall pleased with my month.

A lot of changes happened at work and life got in the way of training a bit more than I would have liked, compromising my swims.

But as fate would have it, the swim portion of my race was cancelled, so I guess things happen for a reason.

I was pleased with my race, but was brutally reminded of two facts.  1., I'm still about 15 lbs heavier than the last time I raced in triathlon.  I need to get rid of that, as it makes the experience more enjoyable.  and 2.  My stomach can not handle gatorade in any way shape or form.  I need to do some serious research on hydration and electrolyte options before we get into the balls hot months of summer.  Shating myself regularly really isn't a fun option that I'm willing to consider.

Goals for next month are to sign up for the rest of my summer races, get to the pool at least twice a week come hell or highwater, lose 5 lbs, and on a personal note- get approved for a home loan as husband and I are going to buy our first house.

Okay everyone, your turn.

Haha, that's awesome.

My maiden last name was almost that cool...  It was the same last name as the Captain of the Starship Enterprise on Star Trek... and oh yes, I was also captain of my cheer and dance squads in highschool.

First of all, congrats on getting ready to buy a house...that's huge!!!  Congrats.

I've used to have the same issues with Gatorade!!!  A couple sips and my stomach would be cramping, then I'd be running to find the nearest porta potty.  Apparently though, as evidenced by my race last weekend, my stomach has come around.  I'm a huge fan of Accelerade, and found it to be a lot easier on my stomach.  It has a smoothy-like creaminess to it, which a lot of people don't care for, but I actually like it.  At the moment I'll also experimenting with Nuun.  I have to give it more time, but so far no complaints.  And a big bonus with Nuun is that it doesn't have the high sugar level that a lot of other products have.  Try a bunch of products and see what works best for you!

Does anyone use/has anyone tried Infinit or Endurolytes?

Knowledge is a lot about personal experiences and I can pretty much guarantee each of us here has a different point of view on most topics. I have a lot of experience with how to train but I will have a harder time helping someone who can't swim a lap of the pool than some of my friends who started there...  Also, didn't you just remind everyone to do their monthly evaluations... don't sell yourself short as a mentor

Congrats on the house! Great time with interest rates and low prices.

For races I've come to the conclusion that I need to get used to just water and salt tabs on the run, nuun or my mix of Gatorade on the bike.  I've been screwed in a few races (New Orleans included) where they mix the Gatorade or whatever the drink sponsor maybe way to strong or disgustingly warm.  So this is something I'm also going to be working on during workouts this summer...

Ok, here's my April assessment.....

Aside from this week, when my volume was set to have a hearty increase & life got in the way and killed it (and I swear this is the last time I'll b*tch about it ), I'm thrilled with my first full month of HIM training.
Swimming: I feel a lot more confident in the water (I think it's the sushi suit).  I'm handling the longer workouts better than I expected, I'm slowy getting faster and my form is getting better.
Biking: I'm thrilled to be riding outside again, and I'm getting all the mileage & long rides in.  But, I'm ready to admit, this is my limiter and especially when it comes to hills.  I need to get faster here, which amounts to spending more time in the saddle.  Oh yea, and I learned an important lesson about using butt cream...or rather, what happens when you don't use it on long rides Surprised
Running: I feel like this is where I've made the most progress this month!  Started off the month with a great run at the DC 10-miler.  I've pushed myself harder than I ever have during speed workouts, and I ran my first sub-8 min mile ever.

Overall I can feel my endurance getting stronger and my recovery time getting shorter.

For May (which is national bike month, btw) I'm going to keep following my training plan & keep pushing myself harder...and especially on the bike.  I suppose I should also get around to getting a HR monitor.  I also need to start focusing a little more on nutrition and finding/sticking with products I like.
