Well its not a date at all... its a 'thank you'... no that I think Ive earnt one...well nothing like that kind of spoiling! 

I'm not Beth either. I'm Evil. She's not. But is this CG? 'He says you're just friends, but then invites you over for a dinner that he's cooking? How did he phrase the invitation? For me, if it was really a "friendship" level, I'd probably say something like, "Hey, I wanted to thank you for helping me out. How about if I take you to dinner next week?" But I wouldn't invite someone to my house for this, since it makes it sound more "date-like."

I agree, with the wine to me it sounds more date like.  I don't have wine with meals except for special occasions. but then Kristen might disagree. 

hmmm ok.. that was kind of my initial reaction... its a very nice thing to do... and Im not complaining... in fact its EXACTLY the kind of thing I appreciate since my life is severely lacking in home cooked meals...

And either way I will REALLY appreciate the gesture if it happens...

See i dont have wine with my meals but if Im having dinner out I guess I would... or with friends... so maybe in that context its not such a stretch...

What about if youve heard about how terribly I eat and how severely lacking I am in real home cooked food? Would you then want to invite me home and feed me properly?

Only if there were other people (non-couples) there, too. Especially since I'm assuming that you've hinted to him that you're "interested" - which is why you found out that he wanted this to stay at "friendship." Then again, maybe he really IS just doing this as a friendship-thank-you. But to me, it sounds more like a "mixed message." (Plus, he mentioned wine -- which to me, doesn't translate as "you eat horribly and you need to stay healthy." But then again, I'm suspicious, cynical and sarcastic. So I always assume that people are not to be trusted.

haha nice Dee - yeah there was a conversation had awhile ago... so I havent seen him as anything but a friend for awhile...

Oh well I guess i will sit back and see what happens!
