Thanks for all the congrats on the house.  We're pretty excited.  Right now we live in the 7th circle of hell, so we're excited to be moving out of a bad neighborhood and a crappy apartment.

The housing market in FL has crashed worse than a lot of the country, but as a result we're hoping to make an offer on a house that we will be able to sell for 3-4x what we buy it for once everything turns around.

As long as I don't end up having a panick attack and changing my mind first.

My April assessment...

Don't need to re-hash the New Orleans race but it was a good learning experience and the great thing about fitness is it doesn't go away after a bad race!

Since the race I've been just taking it easy, allowing for some down time since I didn't get much of an off season during the winter. I spent a lot of time focusing on the people I coach to make sure their training is on track so I haven't had much time for my training plan yet... I've just finalized my weekly workout schedule for the upcoming training and plan to setup my training plan this weekend. Next week the plan starts and I'm really excited to try out some new ideas on workouts that I've been saving

For May my goal is to get into my new workout routine which includes dropping the bad eating habits I've picked up over the past few weeks...

Here is my April recap.

I fell short on my diet part a little. My goal is to be 190 by July 4th. I am about 204 now and was hoping to be closer to 200. I think with the running now it will come off better. Clean up the food and 14 lbs in 10 weeks shouldnt be too bad. Also need to quit getting the Subway cookie!!

Swim - Have been going 2x week and I can tell I am getting better. Still need to work on the endurance part and clean up my stroke. Looking forward to May and getting some OW swims in.

Bike - I feel like I increased on the intensity of my trainer rides. I need to get out more and started getting more outside miles. I did one longer outside ride and it felt real good.

Run - I am running!! Funny to say but that is a big step. No issues with the part below my knee. (Wont say it aloud). I have my plan mapped out pretty well and I think I will be as good as I can be expected for my race. I could already tell a big difference on my run Tuesday. Pace was mid 11s and my HR was hanging around 150 for 90% of the run. I really felt the increase from the week before.

Goals for May
Swim - Get 2 OW swims in. Keep pushing it at practice. Get some vids for this group to review
Bike - Get outside more and start getting more 25-30 mile rides in!!
Run - Stick to the plan. Keeping the pace HR less than 160, and build up slow. Stay hydrated

You guys crack me up and perhaps ...just maybe...from time to time...I do peek in and read.  Makes my boring days at work a heck of a lot more entertaining!

Nicole83 - 2009-04-30 11:40 AM I too was all excited that Betsy wanted to play!

I do'nt know that I would be a good mentor from a knowledge standpoint, but I would enjoy having the opportunity to meet some new peeps and post inspires and whatnot.

evondo - 2009-04-30 12:20 PM She should, I know she reads our craziness maybe some day she'll stop lurking

Speaking of joining in the fun...
It's a ways off (December I think) but after looking at some of the new groups with multiple mentors and I was thinking we should all join up and mentor a group together when they start the next round. What do you guys think???

KelliD - 2009-04-30 11:08 AM For a minute I got really excited that Betsy came over the join in the fun

Sup, Sup, Sup... The future B to the V to the D in da house, fo-shizzle!  I would definitely be in for the group mentorship...

April assessment...

Overall ~ I am very pleased with the month. although it kinda fizzled out this week, but given the circumstances, I am not going to even give it a second thought.  Everything has come around and my tuned up bike is riding smooth, swim stroke is feeling good with a strong performance in the pool.  The Corpus Race was a big confidence booster ~ especially with the swim!  I still need to improve my focus on bike time.  My running milage/time fell off a little this month, but since that is my go to guy, I am okay with that for now.

May = increasing time & intensity on a gradual scale... May is really going to be dedicated to June as I really start to hone my focus for Buffalo Springs.  I want to maintain my swim frequency, but pick up the intensity and try to pull a little more speed.

I am going to get some speed work in on the run, so I can lay down the greatest run in the relay for June.  I will begin to follow more closely (if my schedule will allow) the coached plan from Mike's Coach.  I want to work in more of his planned workouts and not just one or two a week.

I have never used Infinit (but always heard great things about it).  I use endurolytes and think they are great.  The benefits of gatorade without all the liquid, taste, stomach issues that some have described.  I am a water dog, I drink a little gatorade on the course, but burn through some water.  I am an extra-heavy sweater!

Hehe, I get the initials... but I don't get Todd's comment?  Why the reference to undies?  I'm assuming you're not a closet burlesque dancer and I'm just completely missing something.

Guess you are too young to ever have heard of the BVD brand of underwear?  I'm not sure when they were popular???  Maybe the guys can answer that one?

Kudos to Todd for outin' his FB... woot-woot!   Ha Ha on the tighty-whitey reference!

Yep I am racing in the AM, then at noon it is off to a second job (working security for a bancquet hall) from 1p-5p, then it is time to chill at the casa.  Sunday (if the weather cooperates - I would like to get in a 40mile bike ~ nothing hard - just log the saddle time and milage.  If it's raining, then I will try and pull a 75 minute trainer ride - same kind of tempo (easy!)  I actually have plans of an easy leg loosening ride this evening.   Since I have all but blown this week (nutrition and training wise).  I am pretty pumped about this race tomorrow... it has 1000 registered entrants with 113 in the 35-39 AG... pretty big wave (might be the biggest wave for me to date).  I am specifically excited about the swim - a smooth short course to really test my swim improvements that I have been seeing in the pool.  Last race was too tough to really get an accurate reading.  Depending on the heat/humidity level, I am looking for another strong run to bring it home... my goal is to truely test my redline... pushing hard and holding it there.

I'm really excited for my weekend workouts and getting back on track!!!  This week has been crazy busy and my training & nutrition definitely suffered!

Tomorrow I'm doing a 50 mile ride...there's a slight chance of rain and I'm really hoping it holds off til later in the afternoon, so I'm not relegated to the trainer.  Sunday I have a super early 12.5 mile run, and then I'm off to my godson's christening.

I was reminded last night/this morning that training and drinking do not mix, at least for me!  Sometimes I forgoet that I don't have the tolerance I did when I was 22, and throw training on top of that and I have no tolerance.  Last night I was at a work dinner/event thingy...probably had 4-5 drinks over the course of about 5-6 hours, and at no point did I ever really feel like I was drunk....but I sure felt it when I was hugging my porcelin buddy @ 3am   Yea, yuk is right!!!!  I'm in better shape now.....some gatorade, a couple diet cokes and a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich, and my body doesn't detest me quite as much anymore.

I have you all locked in and can keep better tabs on you...

OHH Super secrete help I need from you all!! Last month I made a bet with one of the guys that is in my poker group. We get togther and play once a month. The bet is who will be faster at the July 5th Tri. I did this to help my motivation and also just for fun. He is the guy that got me started in doing Tris. I am the major under dog but think I have a shot at beating him if things go just right. I havent told him of any of my trianing and just been sandbagging him. I told him I am going to start swimming next month when my neighbor hood pool opens and such. I think he is over confident and hasnt trained for a while. I know he hadnt done any biking and swimming since Sept of last year when the bet was made. So if we could keep the references to any of my trianing on the DL that would be great since he is on the Facebook.

Betsy- I must be too young... I was so confused.  Lol.  You could have initials that are worse things than underoos though...

Good luck this weekend Justin!  I know you'll kick some at the race.

Kelli- LOL.  Sorry, not mocking your pain... curly fries are the gift from the gods when hungover if you ask me.  I hope that you get to feeling better and get hydrated for that killer weekend of training you've got planned.

Todd- I love this little game you're playing... I will totally help you sandbag so that you can kick some .

You have no idea Nicole....it has to be the longest week ever!

Happy training this weekend (and to you Justin ...racing)!  5K tomorrow for me.  Haven't done one in a couple of years so we'll see how it goes.  Should ride but probably won't happen since we're going to Louisiana to watch my nephew play baseball.

Oh and somebody tell Eric he will be fine in the 5K even though he hasn't done speed work in a while!

I'm shoe shopping online rather than dealing with the three screaming people that I should be dealing with.  I'm thinking that some Manolo's will make everything right with the world.  That, and maybe some ice cream.

Have fun in your 5k this weekend Besty!

And the fact that Eric hasn't been doing speed work and can still run a 6 minute mile kind of makes me want to throw something.   But that's awesome.  I hope you guys have fun!
