Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() mchally - 2010-04-19 3:05 PM I am not sure if I mentioned it here or not, but I was in a car accident on thursday. No one was hurt or anything, the other car needs very very minor repairs, but my car's entire front end needs to be replaced (not the engine related stuff, just the exterior) and is in the shop for a week. Originally I thought that it really really sucked, but now I've found that I am actually enjoying being without it. I am doing a lot more biking in combination with buses. My friend bought me an awesome pannier as an early birthday gift. I am planning on swinging by a used bike store later today to pick up a rack. My front bumper had a bit of damage anyway, getting it replaced now with insurance costs less than paying to replace it on my own. Also...In my general conversation with my insurance agent I mentioned that I am working on a horticulture degree. It turns out that he is best friends with a very well connected local Horticulture professional and volunteered to get me in touch with him. He manages some very prestigious estates in my area and could be looking for another employee. ![]() All in all, there are a lot more positives than negatives coming out of my little fender bender. ![]() glad to hear you are ok...and good stuff has come out of it! |

So, on my ride today, I hit some new high speeds on a couple of descents. The one descent was probably over a mile and I hit 45 MPH before I decided to started tapping the brakes. Bike handled really well though. No speed wobbles. I just got a little worried about the speed and the debris and gravel on the shoulder of the road. Opinions? Baby or justified? Have you guys carried these speeds on your road bikes? Let me have it! Highest speed I have clocked was 42 mph...on a road bike...on a smooth surface road with no cross traffic. I was in the middle of the right lane, so no issues with the shoulder debris. I wasn't even trying to hit a top speed...I was just trying to catch up with a pack in front of me...but still trying to stay within safe limits. I suppose I could have hit 45+ if I wanted to...but probably would have pooped my pants. I would say justified though...going 46 or 47 is nothing to brag about if you end up going down...better to be on the safe side I just spit my water in my screen! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() just got back from my run, felt really good other than my hip. I will continue to foam roll it and hope it holds up for my race on Sunday! I will hit all my totals but the run might be a stretch! I didn't do my long run this Friday with my hip bugging me and having the race I wanted to not push it. and this week is all low miles. I will try though! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() On the training front... Yesterday was crazy but I did get my trainer ride in. After work, I had to pick up one daughter from day care, the other from after school program, run home change clothes and grab something to eat in the car, and then run to soccer practice. Then, close to the end of practice Mr Ding-a-Ling (the ice cream truck) showed up. Needless to say, everyone's practice was over! Went home and tried to force feed the kids something healthy (after Mr Ding-a-Ling... why did I bother?) and get two hyped up kids in bed while hubby went to basketball. Trainer didn't happen until about 9:30... Now the sun is out and it is absolutley beautiful. I'm wondering why I didn't call in sick and take my bike outside for a nice spin today? |

I feel SO much better in the sunshine! x2-The sunshine is wonderful. Worked from home yesterday and opened the curtains and the patio door wide open. Sunshine pouring in the window on me, light breeze and birds singing. Beautiful day. Today I'm in the office and its sunny outside. My next project hasn't started yet so I have nothing to do and I am stuck in the office with a little glint of sunshine reflecting of a car window into my eye to remind me that its nice outside and I'm not out there to enjoy it. I would love to hit the outdoor lap pool which opened this week and soak up some more sun. My son has a concert tonight so I'm not sure what workout I will get in. Maybe I will take off early. I always feel guilty when I do that though. |

I have lived in NYS my whole life and every summer we went on some really great family vacations. But our vacations ALWAYS involved camping and driving, never any flying. As a kid I was such a pain to my dad, begging him to take us to FL to go to Disney. It's too crowded... too expensive... too far to drive... We never went. The year after I graduated from high school, my dad chaperoned my brother's band trip down there to Disney. My brother became a music teacher and over the years my dad has chaperoned many of these trips. He always comes back saying that I just have to go! It's now a family joke for me to tease him about how I'm such a deprived child because he wouldn't take me to Disney growing up. Edited by rnihill 2010-04-20 10:54 AM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I go to the chiro yesterday and still nothing. They show me a video (cheesy), go through the xrays and their evaluation and how they want me to spend over $3500 on this 5-6 month treatment plan and still no adjustments. I was there for an hour and a half! Come on folks! My back is bugging me. Stop talking and do something about it. Oh, and they aren't "in network" on my insurance or my wife's insurance. Time to find another chiro to try. |
