T-2 days till my California trip! counting down the seconds!
Got my bib number and entry for the Sea otter MTB X-country race for Sunday. I rented an MTB out there. MY road bike is already there (that bastard!). My coach took it out there for me Monday. My wife decided to meet me out there on Sunday. She wants to visit for the beach I think! LOL |

Expert 1146 Chugiak, Alaska | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED I had a 1000 yd TT swim today and am super stoked with the time! 14.04 (7.01, 7.03 500 split)!!!! Fastest time since H.S. I am somewhat surprised though as I haven't been focusing on the swim - maybe I am just stronger all around? Hopefully I will get my bike outside tomorrow or Sat. for the first time as I am itching to see how fast the new bike is - fingers crossed. |

Teams of 7 people running a total distance of 77.7 miles. Should be fun! Maybe you could do it solo next year Bill? I know Brian has a race, is anyone else racing? |

I might burn my running shoes after May 5th, but that sounds like fun. Have great races Ken, Brian, and Jennifer - get your butt to the start line. That's half the battle. And bring your racing shoes and peddles. There's no room to be self conscious. I have to laugh when I get passed by heavy guys with heavy bikes while I try to tuck into a fancy tri bike with my goofy helmet that makes my look like a bug from another galaxy. If you are wearing a race number, bring your race gear! |

Member 258 | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED Last second AAAAAARRRRRRGGGH! My sprint is tomorrow morning. We just had a storm blow through, and it is only supposed to be about 45 degrees tomorrow morning. The swim is in a pool, but I've never done a race in these temps before. Would you put on a jacket in T1? Gloves? Hat? What do you suggest? I have a zip up bike jersey that's pretty warm that I think will go on pretty easily even while I'm soaking wet. Any other thoughts? Thanks, Jaime |

Member 258 | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED Well, I made it through my slightly chilly bike leg with no problems. I left my swim cap on and put on a thick bike jersey in T1, also put toe covers on my bike shoes. None of which I had ever practiced with before, but hey, isn't that what you're supposed to do? Try new things at races? I had a fun race, parts of it felt really good, a few parts I had trouble finding my rhythm. I felt like I made a lot of silly little mistakes. Fumbled with the zipper on my jersey, my hat blew off not once but TWICE, etc. etc. When everything was done I finished second in my age group and 5th overall, which is about where I was last year, but having trained so hard all winter I was hoping for a little bit better. On closer inspection, however, only 70 seconds separated me from my friend who finished 2nd overall. So I think with cleaner transitions, and minus the stagger start where you can't really chase your competition, I could probably do a little better. And there just happens to be another sprint race in my town next weekend...Hello, spring!!! |
