Hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine starts tomorrow and the weather looks like it might actually cooperate, so hope to get in a good outdoor run and ride.

Boudreaux got adopted on Saturday by a great family. And we have a new foster for a few weeks. His name is Bear and he is a 10 year old lab/rottie mix.

Hello ladies! I hope you feel better soon Christine!

I am officially in FREAK OUT MODE. Yell  I got back from my vacation yesterday to have to spend 30 mins getting snow and ice removed from around my car at the airport.  Hmmmmm.....84 degs and sunny weather on Monday and then this?  Anything wrong with this picture?!!! hahaha

Then, I get the full schedule for TNT Steelhead training.  Basically, over the next 5 months I will have no social life, right?  I guess I'll take it one day at a time; one training session at a time.  Tonight there's group swimming, but I can't go 'cause I have to work late.  So, I'm heading to the gym to walk/run and do weights.  Tomorrow, I start Masters and on Friday Pilates.  Then group training over the weekend.

Hey all: change of plans for the week. The rescue org that I volunteer for asked me to go to San Bernadino CA to pick up some dogs and help the shelter there set up some medical protocols. We are taking the RV (one that has all the inside ripped out and dog crates from floor to ceiling). It is a 16 hr drive and 3 of us are going so we are going to drive straight thru. Leaving on Thursday and coming back on Sunday.

So I'm going to take a few days off from training, but I figure it's for a good cause. We hope to bring back 40-50 dogs that would otherwise be euthanized.

Wow, snowstorm.  The first one we've really had this year.  I don't dare leave the apartment to go to the gym today.  I am so sick of winter.  It's been so cold this year, now it is snowing.  Has been all day and will be all night.  YUCK!  I am so over winter.

I took 4 days off from training to transport dogs from Southern CA to Oregon. Here is an article that was in one of the local papers. My 15 min of fame. I'm the one on the left handing the puppies out of the RV.

rescue

California dog rescue continues!

2/22/10:  The maiden trip of OFOSA's new Mobile Transport Vehicle results in saving over 60 dogs from death. OFOSA set off for San Bernardino for the third time since January to rescue over 60 dogs from the San Bernardino, CA Animal Shelter, a high kill shelter.  "We got down to the shelter and it broke my heart to have to leave some behind" says Cathy Nechak President of OFOSA, "but we only had so much room".  However it was a lot more room than the last two trips thanks to the recently purchased Mobile Transport Vehicle.

OFOSA worked with South West Washington Humane Society for this trip as well as Luv-A-Bull rescue to save as many dogs as possible.  "The rescues available to accept dogs have been different every time so a lot of planning has to be done" says Sue Woodson OFOSA's disaster officer.

Of the 67 dogs that came this trip one dog went to Luv-A-Bull rescue in Eugene, 13 dogs came to OFOSA including three 8 week old Chihuahua puppies. The rest of the dogs went to South West Washington Humane Society. Faye Smith, the SWWHS shelter manager was excited to get the dogs as SWWHS has the appropriate medical facilities and space to accommodate such a large number of dogs. Working with them this time helped save a lot more dogs from certain death. This trip was special. We were traveling in our new vehicle. Little momma was riding up between the two front seats. "I was petting her and there was the first baby" says Cathy Nechak. Momma was in a safe place and warm so she decided it was time. While Sue Woodson looked for the next exit off of the Interstate, Sandi Graham and Cathy delivered 7 puppies. When Momma and puppies were safe the trip to Portland continued. The first trip with the Mobile Transport vehicle was a tremendous success.

momma

The Heigl foundation is sponsoring some of the transportation costs.  Sharon with the HEAL foundation is providing vaccines for the dogs to prevent illness. The plight of these dogs is being heard around the country as approximately 500 dogs were saved by different rescue agencies during January, with OFOSA and partners taking over 100 of the dogs. OFOSA continues to do its part by rescuing animals, as well as helping with transportation and medical care.  OFOSA would like to thank its rescue partners, fosters and volunteers for their hard work in this endeavor.

I hope this week is going well for everyone! I'm taking a break this week due to a pulled leg muscle, which I hope goes away soon. They say rest is the best thing, but sometimes it's tough to do.

Happy march everyone.  I'm back after an unexpected two week break due to a computer virus.  I seem to have given myself an angry IT band tough.  Hope Everyone is well or on the way to recovery.    Time to catch up......

Ditto the Happy March to everyone. The daffodils are out in my front yard and the neighbors croucus' are blooming so I'm hoping that warmer weather is just around the corner. Our cherry tree has not bloomed yet, so might not be a good year for cherries.

I hope spring will be bringing some warmer weather for you gals in the colder climates! We've gotten a lot of rain recently, so I'm hoping the wildflowers will be good this year.

Also, I'm off to my big race in Saipan this week for 1.5 weeks, so I won't be on BT as much. Swim, bike, and run lots while I'm gone. Hopefully I'll have a lot of pics to share when I get back.

Thanks so much! Just got home after a long couple of days of flying.

That was definitely the toughest XTERRA I've done. Very slippery in the jungle from rain, and the run course was more of a hike in the jungle because it was so steep. Lots of rock climbing, rope climbing, and climbing down through a ravine. Lots of injuries, so I was glad to make it out in one piece with just a skinned knee.

Hope you all are having a wonderful week!

Uh, oh. Just one or several in a ride? Fixable or did ya have to call the SAG wagon? I've done that when it got too dark and cold and I was too mad to deal with it.

I fixed it and it was just a group casual ride.  But, it was a slow leak.   So it lost air continually as I rode, I stopped every few miles to pump it.  But the 17 miles I rode on low pressure felt like 50.   A few nice guys hung with me and kept me company.  I was bummed cause before that I was keeping up with the fast crew for the first time.

That is fantastic! You'll hang with 'em next time when a stupid flat doesn't get in your way.
