Extreme Veteran 461 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns dmorgan_jazz9 - 2007-12-14 1:38 PM Felt great in the pool, and felt as if I could've gone much longer, but didn't want to push it too far. As they say, you should always finish a workout feeling like you could've given more. I never thought of it this way... It is a good motivator knowing that you could've done even just a little bit more, so you have to get into the pool yet another time to prove it to yourself! |

Extreme Veteran 461 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Ellie - 2007-12-14 2:23 PM I'll be pruney and smelling of chlorine through the New Year, but I've put in 4200m so far this week. I've got a second swim of the day planned for after work (somewhere between 1000-1500m, depending on how my arms feel) and I'm trying to get to the pool again tomorrow morning. My pool closes for the college winter break next Friday! Way to go! I'm so glad my college pool doesn't close over break. Only for xmas eve and day, and new years day. |

Regular 80 Colorado Springs, Colorado | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns MrsUSMC - 2007-12-14 2:43 PM Chlorine smell is good, and clean, and proof I used to go to a church that met at a YMCA, and whenever we took stuff back to the storage room, my sister and I would stop and sniff and think, "what is that great, clean smell?" Of course it was the pool we were passing. Ah, chlorine. There's nothing quite like it. |

Expert 851 Oceanside, CA | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Hey Penguins. Hope everyone has had a great weekend. I've barely been home trying to keep up with my training and get some Christmas shopping finished. Thank you all for keeping your logs updated. I've reported our numbers to "headquarters" and you can see them below Everyone's doing great. I had a rockin' swim last night and am looking forward to tomorrow night to see if it was a fluke or if it's finally jived! I increase my distance this coming week as well and if I stay on plan will exceed my challenge goal Edited by MrsUSMC 2007-12-16 9:26 PM Attachments ---------------- Pesky_Penguins(1).xls (44KB - 22 downloads) |

Extreme Veteran 461 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Cool! Looks like we are all doing well. This week will be a weird week for swimming as will next week. I'll be swimming T, W, F this week and F I will be going to a different pool so that I can get my swim in and go to the hospital for my dad's surgery. It is just weird going someplace else after I'm used to going to the university's pool. |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Heya Penguins. I'm 2/3 done with the challenge. When I decided my goal I gave myself 1 swim session buffer since with the holidays I figured I might need a break somewhere along the way and since I haven't had to use it yet, I should have no problem finishing on time. I got the Go Swim Freestyle with Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen DVD on Saturday and watched it before bed. It had some great advice and a lot of good video. I'm going to try out Karlyn's style (a wide stroke like paddling a surfboard with a few other important points) and see how I do with it. On Sunday I did alot of speed work while trying to follow as much of her form as I could incorporate and it seemed to speed me up some. I got under 1.10 for a 50 for the first time (yeah, I'm slow!). And also my shoulder didn't hurt in the joint like it had at the end of my previous sessions. I did have some pain in the muscles in my upper back and my traps, but I can deal with that as it'll get better as I build strength. But all in all a great workout and the speedo trio were nowhere to be found. Now if we can get rid of the old guy who does the butterfly and sends up huge amounts of water with every stroke I'll be happy. Although I take that as a bit of OWS training! I'm off to try to buy some new running shoes today. Hopefully that will help with my knee/foot pain that has kept me from running the last few times. We'll see tomorrow how the new shoes do if I find some. Hope everyone is managing to keep swimming through all the holiday craziness! Traffic alone this time of year is enough to drive you insane. |

Expert 851 Oceanside, CA | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Jeni - I hear you on changing pools. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to swimming at the one I am now. I was going to the Y and there were more lanes, and more salt in the water, plus it was warmer, and outside. There are 3 lanes where I am now, and I'm sharing for the first time ever. Not as much salt, so not as much buoyancy, and the water is colder. Kelley - just look at your pool "problems" as practice for a tri. It's virtually impossible to plan for a perfect swim LOL |

Elite 3471 Evergreen, CO | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Hey Penguins! I've got some swimming to make up, but since xmas preparations are pretty much done - finally! - I should be able to get to the pool 3 times each of these next 2 weeks. I also had races the last 2 Saturdays so swimming took a backseat to running and riding and recovering, and holiday parties, and volleyball tournaments, and, of course, work..... Looking forward to fewer distractions! Everybody's doing such a GREAT job, especially considering what a hectic time of year it is. GO PENGUINS!!! |

Found out I won't be swimming Wed. as the boys need haircuts before their trip to Nana and Papa's for xmas. And they need to go shopping. Will have to make the swim up on the weekend. The pool was practically empty tonight -- everyone must have realized xmas is only a week away. I can't be the only one to suddenly realize that today |

Extreme Veteran 461 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Well, I had a backward slide this weekend... a big kick in the butt telling me to not try to drink so much wine in one sitting! I was horribly sick on sunday and was still dehydrated yesterday, so chose to use the day to drink more water rather than sweat it out. But into the pool today I go and I will do a run after swimming as well. |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns This past weekend there was a Speedo Santa run in Boston At least many of them seem to fall into my qualification of being under 25 and in good shape to wear a speedo. Trust me if my Speedo Santa (if he had a beard he'd be a dead ringer for Santa....actually probably a bit fatter) had been there people would have been scarred for life. No swimming for me until tomorrow. I get to try out my new (and of course really expensive) Brooks running shoes today. They are supposed to be perfect for us Athenas who pronate so here's hoping they feel good. Everyone else you are doing great. It's really hard to get workouts in this month I know, but just do what you can do. At least it's a nice holiday stress reliever. |

Expert 851 Oceanside, CA | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Nice group of *healthy* young men in those pictures! LOL As to the drinking, I hear you! I rarely drink anymore so have become quite easily overcome by it when I do. I'm older now too, and it does take longer to recouperate. Now when I do drink I make sure to have a glass of water inbetween drinks. It helps. A lot! Swim went okay for me last night. I didn't feel as great as I did on Saturday, but mission accomplished |

The weekly totals are up, and we're NOT in last place http://tinyurl.com/3bbljc I saw! We're edging up from behind I will only be able to get in 2 more swims this month because of pool closings, surgeries and going on a mini-vacation. I will have all my goal time done, but probably down to the minute! I only have 55 mins left for this month. |

I tried on a pair of brooks once and they just didn't cut it for me. I have a pair of adidas something or other and I love them! Unfortunately, my local store doesn't carry hardly anything for adidas, so when I need a new pair of shoes I will have to travel or attempt online shopping. |

Elite 3471 Evergreen, CO | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns I had the same issue w/ my favorite Asics but found them online and bought 2 pairs so I'm set for the next 1000 miles. It's nice when you don't have to try them on to buy them! In the meantime I had bought a pair of New Balance and like to switch shoes now and then to give my feet a break. |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Hey folks... The Brooks are pretty good I think. It's hard to tell for sure since I hadn't run in a week so my legs and such were trashed anyway. But certainly no worse than the last pair. and I think another part of the problem is they are really good at keeping me from pronating so my muscles are going to have to get used to that new resistance. Once they adjust I'm sure they'll be great. I'm going to see if I can find some slightly cushier insoles too, because I like a nice soft insole, even if it probably isn't the best thing for me. Went to do my swim tonight but only finished about a third. The pool smelled, well, kinda gross to me. Kind of like some of the homes of old folks we go to on the ambulance where the people should clearly not be living by themselves....yeah, I won't go into details (go to my training log if you want the skanky description). But once I figured out what it smelled like (luckily I had my nose plugs on for the first 10 laps or nothing would have been done), I couldn't continue. The little bit of water that was getting into my mouth when I breath just was making me gag. So, had to give up and take the longest shower I've ever taken I think. I hope they get a new delivery of chlorine before this weekend because that just will not do. Luckily for the challenge I built in one workout that I could totally bag if necessary, so I should be okay. And I can always throw in a few extra laps on the last few workouts to make up for it anyway. Okay, now that I've maybe grossed you out, it's time to hit the sack and get some extra sleep. Hope your workouts are going splendidly! |

974.926 | Subject: RE: Pesky Pengiuns Oh Kelley, I know exactly the smell you're talking about...oh...that's an olfactory memory I didn't need to recall. I'm sorry to hear it ruined your swim, but I totally understand why. I just got back from my lunchtime swim didn't get the 1500 I was hoping for, but did get a 1300 in. Just 1700 left - I'll be done by 6ish tomorrow. Then maybe I'll get some Christmas shopping done!

Stupid water aerobics, why do they need the whole pool...I only wanted one little lane! The good news is I think...I THINK, I have met my goal for the month...so I suppose I should be psyched and NOT grumpy. |
