Greetings Team!

My Schedule at work this month changed, so I can't focus on swimming, because of the pool hours, Sooooo, It looks like I'm the only runner on the team this month.  RIght now about 8 min mile pace for 5 miles, my target next June is in the 6's (yeah, after the swim and bike....)

Destined for injury

CPT K.

Comets,

Thank you, once again, for making me swim. It's not that I don't like it, but it's just tough to get up early in the morning. I know, I'm a bum.

Anyway, during this morning's session, I made an important discovery. Every time I breathe, my hips sink dramatically. I actually thought I was good at this because I do so many side kicking drills. But apparently not.

So, not sure how to fix this yet, but at least I know it's a problem!

It is very good to know...I agree when I discover something it is like now what do I do. Normally it leads to an email to my swim coach who can guess what I'm doing wrong and she helps me figure it out.

I was doing drills trying to keep my legs and hip up which takes quite a bit of effort..if I took a stroke to breath my whole body gets lower in the water and then floats back up. Recovering is good but why do I totally sink when I stroke/breath?

I was reading something about keeping one goggle in the water to breathe, but I have *NO* idea how that's even possible. Also about not opening your whole mouth but only the top of the mouth.

But I am determined to try.

Hi team!  Really sorry to do this, but I have to pull out of the challenge.  I've worn myself out with everything going on - even stayed home from work yesterday because I couldn't get out of bed.  Such a wimp I am!  So I won't be training until I get the xmas stuff done and have some energy again, which may be next week,  may be later, but I don't want to pull the team down or feel pressure to get the workouts in.  Sorry guys -- it was fun!

So how do I go about officially retiring?

You can do it...I work on the goal too.

Those who swim very well you can't even see their head turn when they breath. You actually make a bubble of air and you don't need to turn your head much to get to it but that is pretty hard to figure out and is advanced.

Try doing KOS drill (kick on side drill) do some with head facing down and they try it with head on your shoulder looking to the side and one google under water and other above that is practice for correct position to breath.

Thanks for allowing me into the challenge despite my late arrival. I really do need the encouragement/goading/kicking to stay focussed on my running

Hopefully with the run focus I can start to lose some of that recently acquired wt , stay balanced on that nutrition and build back a bit of my running base ... grand goals , I know !

Go Comets !!

I just looked at the new YMCA's web site.  It is $55 per month for membership, but they have financial assistance available.  Seeing as how I rarely make more than $1000 per month I just might qualify...

Then I can start swimming, as well as participating in all their 'wellness' classes (cycling, step, pilates, core/strength, various dance, etc

$55?!?!? Yowsers! The YMCA here is only $39. They do have a cool step class, though, but no spinning.

Do they have a drop-in rate? Then you could just pay when you go ...

No hot water? That's not cool. I think gyms really take it for granted that things like that really hurt their reputation. You have to ask yourself: was there really no place with the part, or did they just not want to go to more than one store to look?

I called the manager this afternoon.  Manager claims they worked on it last night and the part was not vailable until 7AM today.  I reminded him that there was a vey large early morning crowd and not having water for a decent shower--as well as a nasty pool today and repeated machines broken makes for an unhappy crowd.

I just finished a decent swim with my tri class tonight.  We experimented a little with breast, side, and backstrokes.  None of them were very pretty for me

First time we tried doing breast stroke I was hysterical laughing at it.

He wanted to teach the kick motion first.  He decided I should learn how to do the kick on my back first (not sure why)....well, take an old RN out of the ER and remember one of  the least favorite parts of ER nursing was the internal exams we had to assist with for creeping cruds and you got someone laughing thinking about assuming that position.....It was cracking me up but the coach is this fairly young, straight laced guy I couldn't explain why I was laughing so much.

FLEX Magazine Keeps sending me letters asking if I can Body Double.  Mostly the "Before" pictures, but the are willing to let me work my way up........  They say there are just too many people out there that think they already have the "After" body......

Workin' on my "After" body, CPT K

Swam today again working on balance. Interesting observations on how different it feels not to have my legs dragging behind me.
