Wednesday 080604

Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:
15 Pull-ups
30 Push-ups
45 Squats

I love these kinds of WODs. Let the dry heaves begin!

Interesting, it's Cindy with 3x reps.

At my gym we don't follow the main site WODs but I think I'm going to start posting some of them anyway so I don't get left out

Todays workout was 3 rounds for time
400m run
12 snatch @ 65lbs
21 pull-ups

time: 10:39

I've started working on doing the new Butterfly pull-ups, they are definitely faster but it's hard to get the rhythm and it also really fatigues your grip. I did the first round all butterfly style, 2nd round I made it to about 16/17 before I switched to standard kip, 3rd round I only got about 8 in before my grip was too smoked to keep it up.

I can't WAIT to start doing pull ups again...THEN to work on those butterfly ones. They're so pretty! =)

They are fun to do. It's definitely tricky to get the timing right on them though. The trick is leg placement because that is what is going to change where your center of gravity is. The leg movement is very different from standard kipping pull-ups so it definitely takes some practice.

There has been a lot of talk about them recently. They are more efficient than regular kipping pull-ups because it's an oval motion instead of a C. They are tough though because your body is doing more work in less time. Supposedly they might put more stress on your shoulders also, and you need to have pretty flexible shoulders to be able to do them. I'm working them into my warm-up and starting to use them in workouts when I can also.

Today I made up a CrossFitty workout for myself, only to be told by Sensei that that IS a CrossFit workout. He did it the day after I did my very first CF so that's why I don't know about it. I couldn't run then, and doing 200 squats would have been sooooo traumatic. =)

Anyway, the workout is: Run 400 m, do 50 squats. Repeat total of four rounds. My total time was 17:30. The run felt good...the squats were...squatty. =)  My splits were 4:05, 4:16, 4:48, 4:20.  That includes the run and the squat.  OH and on the first round of squats I did all 50 continuously...which I've never been able to do before.  WOOT WOOT!

Awesome job, I've done that workout a couple times, it's one of my favorites because it combines two of my strongest exercises - Running and squats.

Did my Saturday Weekend Warriors workout today in Mission Bay Park. Workout was:

400m run
21 burpees
21 pull-ups
400m run
15 burpees
15 pull-ups
400m run
9 burpees
9 pull-ups

time: 8:36

Lots of fun, although I think this workout could have been a tad harder. My butterfly pull-ups are getting much better, I flew through them today.

Grandy, you are a beast.

We should organize a BT crossfit games.  We can all do the same workout at the same time on the same day and report back.  I'll be happy being in last place!

That sounds like a fun idea, I'm definitely up for giving it a go!

On a related note I'm actually signed up for the CrossFit Games on July 5th and 6th. Not quite sure what to expect, but I bet it will be fun!

Congrats Grandy.  Good luck at the games.  Maybe we can do an abbreviated workout to give you a warm up.  We'll definitely wait a week or two luv (lvthgme).  You tell us when and what.  We should also tailor it to what Q can handle with his IM training.

I just did my first burpee pull-ups today.  They weren't quite as bad as I thought.  But they were pretty tough.  Some old guy doing a set of machine curls every 10 minutes was having a good time watching this weirdo.

Wow, that's a hell of an undertaking, but imagine the awesome results you'll see when you get thru it.  The hardest part will be the first week, but after that you'll be motivated!

Good luck!  Definitely report your progress!!

I think I'm gonna have a CrossFit blowout tonight.  I've not done much CF in the past week (instead I rode my bike for almost 300 miles in the last 8 days...ouch, my poor crotch) so tonight I need to not only catch up, but keep my intensity high, since I'm now in IM taper mode!

My tri workout is a 30 minute bike/30 minute run, so I think I'll do the following tonight...

Bike...15 minute warmup, then Tabatas, then 11 minute cooldown.  Total of 30 minutes.
Run...CF WOD (2 rounds of 800 forward, 400 backward), easy 5 minutes, then the CFE WOD (Tabata minus...10:5 x 16), 5 minute cooldown.  Hopefully it'll be close to 30 minutes.  If not, too bad.
CrossFit catch-up...10 rounds of 12 burpees, 12 pullups.

Then I think I'll die.  Wish me luck peeps.  I'll report my success/failure when I'm done.

Since when did taper = doing 3 CF workouts in one evening?? Be careful not to burn yourself up Q. Good luck on your race, you are going to kick butt!

My workout for today:

3x5 back squats at 270lbs

then did the following for time:

1000m row
50 thrusters (just the 45lb bar)
30 pull-ups

time: 7:25

Any of you read the CF Journal thingers? There was an article in one of the past few months about the Hard Routine. I was inspired. Today is day one of week one.

Week 1
2 cups coffee/day
Three drinks of alcohol during week total
2 drinks on weekend days
Buy fish oil and start taking
Read The Zone and write summary (on the trip Yo!)
Mindfully eat - try to limit carbs/sugar
At least 2 big glasses of water/day (64 oz)

Week 2
1 cup coffee/day
No alcohol during week
1 drink on weekend days
Increase FO
Add some ZD elements to diet
At least 72 oz water/day
"Early to bed…"

Week 3
No coffee
No alcohol
Maintain FO
Pack lunch daily
Increase ZD elements
At least 72 oz water/day
Get at least 7 hours sleep/night

Week 4
Maintain last week's
Get 8 hours sleep/night

So this will be (as it is intended to be) HARD for me. I didn’t put any training elements in, b/c that’s not hard for me to do. I will do as much as my body lets me do. =)

Week 5 I will see if I like it, if I feel better, and will maintain the parts I like/think help and forget the ones I don’t/don’t think helped.

Wow, if you can pull that off I will be really impressed! That takes some serious dedication. You will get some awesome results though.

My tapers are usually high intensity but low volume.  This will probably be the highest intensity day though, just to get caught up and feel like I'm back on the fat-burning track.  I won't burn out though, no worries.

OK, so I didn't do it all.  I did the bike tabatas.  Made me nice and sweaty.  Then I tried to run backwards on the treadmil before trying it in the workout.  Ummmm...yeah, not possible.  So I just did a warmup, did the tabata minus, and then a cooldown.  Wound up being like 10 minutes.  I was fine with that.

Then...the burpee/pullup 10 round insanity.  Took me 19:31.

So I did all except today's WOD.  I'll try again tomorrow, when I can run outside.
