Hi Team - just a quick reminder that Monday July 14th is the LAST day of week one of the challenge.

Holy crap.  Where does the time go.  I guess you should take me out all together.

I have a question for you experienced cyclists....

Yesterday during my sprint tri, my bike started acting weird at about Mile 1. I stopped (darn!) and checked out the wheel, wondering if I had a flat or if it had come loose or something. Nope and nope. I kept riding and quickly noticed it was wobbly and rubbing against the brake, etc. I stopped again (DARN!) and made sure it was firmly attached.

I finished the next 11 miles, even getting some decent speed, but I was nervous about getting bucked off the whole time, and it was probably a harder ride than it would have been. Turns out, one of my spokes broke and my wheel isn't true (untrue?).

Do you think it was crazy for me to continue the race (dangerous) or would you have just sucked it up and gone through with it as well?

One bummer: I lost a couple of minutes dealing with the wheel or I probably would've beaten the 3-4 guys ahead of me in my Clydesdale group! Oh well, it was still fun.

Crazy?  No.  Dangerous?  If you had gone flying around corners, yeah, but it's no big deal otherwise than just being hard to ride on.

A spoke wrench is a pretty small but usefull tool to throw in a seatbag, and Zinn can give you enough info on how to get home if you need to true up a wheel on the road.

I'm back now from a trip to the (New) Jersey shore.  Got in some riding, so I was able to keep up with my plan.  Kind of nice to be able to ride somewhere flat!  I've done 4 rides for 4.8 hours.

Nice leg Cat! Cool

I would have disconnected the rear brake and let her fly using only the front brake... shouldnt be braking anyway. I once did a 508 mile nonstop race through Death Valley in 99 like that.  We had 35,000 feet of climbing and descent and never missed a beat.... though I did think about the lack of a rear brake when descending at speeds up to 55mph for 15 miles  into Stove Pipe Wells off of Townes Pass into Death Valley.  For your event you would have been fine.

Good point. I guess if the guy on the radio can ride a bike with no handlebars, I surely can ride a bike without a rear brake....

I'll have to ask my LBS how to work that spoke tool, too....thanks!

I get to do my group ride tomorrow on a mountain bike that's been sitting unused since I bought it used over a year ago. Should be interesting.

I would post a pic of my legs, but I'd get in trouble for causing the BT server to crash.

I just did one of my stages on my mountain bike instead of my road bike because of the previously talked about problems. Wow, that was a chore keeping up with the group this morning...fortunately they took it easy on me.

This one is boring.  Intramural basketball in college.  Mis-diagnosed as a severe sprain.  I had actually torn my PCL, which led to me later tearing my MCL while running.    Want to see the scar two weeks after surgery when I got the bandages off for the first time?  It's definitely the anti-sexy, though.

As of tonight Im 6/9 stages and 355/180 minutes (yes Im WAY over goal in minutes as I was uber conservative due to the no sleep thing)

Come on CSC!!!!
