Hi!

I'm a little late to this challenge, but I will introduce myself anyway.

My name is Amy and I set my running goal for 16 hours this month. I hope to run a half marathon this year, and those 16 hours will definitely get me ready!

It looks like a good team this month. The clown pictures were definitely intresting!

Sunday is the first race of a 4 race series of XC races. Distance is approx. 3.5-4 miles, with about a half mile generally up the middle of a creek.

I'm moving to CO!

Yay! I wish I was moving anywhere!

I'll be doing my normal daily 8-10 miles in a few hours. I'm trying to decide what route to run. Not a day to push the pace as I'll be racing both Saturday and Sunday.

Yowza. That's a heck of a workout the day before racing. How far are the races?

I ended up with 10.43 miles today. The last couple days I've purposely slowed the pace to easy z1. Sometimes I have a tendancy to start getting too much into z3 and that's not good for long distance training. Making myself run slow is actually kinda difficult.

Lately I've been finding I race better if I have a decent run the day prior to racing. Last week I ran about 10.5 the day prior to a 10K and I almost set a new PR on a very non-PR type of course. The week before I ran 8+ miles the day prior to a 5K in which I set a new PR by 48 seconds.

Saturday's race is only 2 miles. The running club has a 2 mile race the first Saturday of every month. It's a handicap race and there is only one winner - the person who runs the most under their handicap. The handicap system is somewhat complicated, but the more races a person does the better their odds, so we do this race every month as a family event.

Sunday is the first race of a 4 race series of XC races. Distance is approx. 3.5-4 miles, with about a half mile generally up the middle of a creek. The creek can be anywhere from ankle to knee deep depending on how it's flowing. I'd like to do well in this race. The other races all have various obstacles as well and get progressively longer with the last one being around 7 miles.

OK. I'm officially intimidated by you. All you runner-types scare the crap out of me (see? I made a poo joke )

woah, this is quite a special thread to come back to after a day or two!

sorry i haven't been checking in more, though you all seem to be getting on just fine in the meantime =

some of you are pretty serious runners!  maybe one day i'll be able to say "oh, today's just an easy 10 miles -- i wouldn't want to be tired for my race tomorrow".  Right now it's more like "heading out for 4 miles - be back in a couple of hours" =P

It's all about levels. Once you get to where a 4 mile run seems short, and you will if you keep at it, you'll get there. A few years ago a 10 mile run was a 2 or 3 day a week occurance, now it's something I build to.

No shame in just doing what you are comfortable with. What the challenge will hopefully do is push you a little bit out of your comfort zone and make you do a little more. Don't over do it, but DO it.

Speaking of which, knocked out a nice 9 miler this morning. Temps in the 60s, no wind, and no bathroomus interruptus. Always a good thing.

So I stupidly wash my cell phone this morning.  Son of Tatum O'Neal. I need it too. Tried drying it out with a hairdryer. I suppose I'll have to purchase a new one. pants.

The 2 mile race went OK today - 13:54. I thought I could have gone a few seconds faster, but I didn't have the pop today. Must have been my taper! LOL

I had some energy to burn off so I did another run after I got home. Just a bit over 7 miles. It helped flush out the system from the race and allowed me to get in a good session of stretching afterward.

Keep on running horsies!
