mulkman - 2008-12-20 6:03 PM I got a 32.2 mile ride in today.  I saw several large deer and had two (chamois staining) close calls with bucks flying across the road looking for love and totally unaware of me!

Holy crap - that's awesome.

Since when could we type 'crap'? I could have sworn that it use to edit it out of my posts...thus I started saying 'carp'.

I guess that BT grew up...???

about the bucks...I had that happen when I was walking down a path once.  A couple of deer bounded out of the brush into the path...one right in front of me and the other right behind me.  I almost ended up on my tush.  Props for staying on your bike.

I would go shirtless if i didnt have extra skin at the bottom of my tummy from when i was overweight. anyone got any good avice for buying some>? do i need bottoms for a sprint, or can i just wear swim jammers for the whole race, i mean its only 10 miles on the bike and a 5K after the swim-swim is 400M.

If I had to pick, I would get some nice tri shorts.  They might make the ride a little better than jammers (don't have much experience in that area).  I'm cheap when it come to buying stuff for myself, so I just wear a technicel tee on the bike and run.  I've yet to buy a $50+ tri top, but I would like to get one (please Santa!!)

snow cruiser ride

This was my "training" ride yesterday! serious amounts of fun.
I call it snow cruiser cross training. Today we are going to hike 6 miles
through the snow and now 1/4" ice to decorate naked gingerbread men.
I'm going to give the 100 pushups a try too, though maybe in the comfort of
home so I don't embarrass myself with my pathetic push-up skills.

The snow keeps coming and coming. Laughing

I heard that the last time seattle had this much snow was in the early 70's...unless it was the mid 60's.

It is crazy out here.

That looks like FUN!!  It was 55F here is SE Louisiana during my run, heck I had to mow my yard yesterday!  It must be nice to have seasons.  I have to drive for several hours with my kids to see snow (are we there yet daddy?)

Does anyone want to join me?

I am in.  This should be fun and interesting.  Hope the initial test does not prove me to be too out of shape.

Hey all,

Just wanted to say that I don't mind running inside on the treadmill.  Here in Indiana, it is a nice 1 degree F outside with a windchill of -23.  I can stay inside for a while, especially since I just started my training again last week.

Oh, on the running and doing pushups every mile, we used to do something very similar in the Marine Corps.  We would run 3-4.5 miles and then do another form of exercise every 1/4 mile.  We would usually do pushups, situps, jumping jacks, leg raises, etc.  It is a great workout and they would call it a fartleck, someone in Germany came up with it.  It was not fun with drill instructors yelling at you, but it did give you a complete body workout.

I think I'm going to try that 100 pushups challenge too.  I'll do the initial test next week and start the challenge January 1st.

I'm very jealous of those of you with snow.  We just keep getting freezing rain.  I can't play in that!

There's a cheap tri top here on backcountry which sometimes comes up on chainlove.com for even less -

Having said that, tri tops are the one thing I won't buy online because they can look really stupid if they don't fit well Smile.  I know this from experience.

That ride looks fun, Kiri!

I think I will try to do a snowshoe trot tomorrow morning.  I still need to get some more morning workouts in for my December challenge.  I need to get a swim in too.

wow!  And I was complaining about the wind the other day.  We did lose our 70 degree temps though.  Mid 20s this morning, but no snow thank goodness.

That looks pretty cool.  Push ups are great for your core, and a strong core is really key for endurance, balance, strength... well, it's great for everything.

So are we all signing onto this?  Could be fun!

I've got a 2XU top and a 2XU suit that I really like.  Our tri club kit is Sugoi and they are awesome, but a little on the pricey side.  That's where the benefit of being an officer came in.  It cost me nothing

You could probably make do in just the jammers for a short sprint.  The only thing I wouldn't like would be the lining in the jammers.  It seems like it might get sorta chafey, but if you can find some without the lining, they'd do just fine.

It would be cool to start as a group.  I'd definitely be more motivated to keep going that way.

So the collective group resolution can be the 100 pushup challenge then?  I like the idea.

My plan for the 100 pushup challenge is to do the initial test on New Year's Day and then start week 1 on the following Monday.  I think a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule would work for me.

I'm probably going to wait until after my half on January 3rd to do the initial test.

Last year, when I was a mentee, we had a few competitions like this that kept things interesting.  A few of us swimmers did a mile challenge to see who could make the biggest improvement in a mile TT swim.  The runners did a 5k challenge against each other.  Good, light hearted competition to keep things rolling.

I have a couple of guys here at work that I am talking (or shaming)  into doing it (they are kicking a screaming now, but they WILL like it!!)

I wonder if this same 100 pushups technique will work for situps too??

It would be nice to have a rock hard six pack!!

Hello all-

I'm back ont he workout wagon (sort of) after a fun weekend.  I knew after my last tri in Nov. that the next 6 weeks would be done time w/ the holidays and the preparations.  I was happy to squeeze in a trainer ride and a short run in very, very cold weather (20s and windy) the past 2 days.

I'm up for the Pushup Challenge although it may be depressing.  I've taken strength and core conditioning classes for the past year and a half.  We do a lot of ab work, planks, push ups, etc.. and I just feel like I get weaker and weaker.  My 2 kids have not done anything for my core.  I wonder if I will ever recover from that.

Well I hope to have more time to chat tomorrow since I will be at work and away from the little ones.
